Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai

Shri Sathya Sai Baba divine blessing HD portrait picture, Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai

Wednesday, November 23, 1960 and Thursday, November 24, 1960

On 23rd November, 1960 Swami hoisted the Prashanti Flag at 8.30 am. As Swami sat in His silver throne, the parents, Sri Pedda Venkappa Raju and Smt. Easwaramma ceremonially applied oil to Swami’s hair and offered worship. This was followed by the Burgula Ramakrishna Rao couple and the Bhagavantam couple along with a few other devotees offering their homages to Swami. Each and every devotee was given the golden opportunity to offer a garland to Swami, which He graciously accepted. Swami blessed the devotees with Jhoola Darshan in the evening.

Prior to Swami’s Discourse, Brahmasri Bairagi Sastry addressed the devotees.

In His Birthday message Swami said, “Believe in Me, this Puttaparthi is soon going to become a Tirupati. Thousands of Yogis, Sadhus and aspirants will come here in the future to derive solace and salvations. The reestablishment of ‘Sanatana Dharma’ will emanate from here”. The occasion was drawn to a close with Swami inaugurating the ‘Dynamo House’ which would provide Prashanti Nilayam with a perennial supply of electricity.

24th November, 1960 was a red letter day in the history of Puttaparthi. Dr. Burgula Ramakrishna Rao laid the foundation stone for the school building at Puttparthi on that day. The significant event of that day was the coming together of the villagers led by the Panchayat President, the Karnam and the Reddy, burying their aversion for Swami, in order to participate in the celebrations. It was evident that Swami’s overpowering love was the power behind this miraculous change of hearts. Swami openly declared His joy over the change that had come over the villagers. He declared, “I shall never move to any other place”. It was indeed a great day! Swami multiplied the joy of the villagers by visiting the houses of the Karnam, the Reddy and a number of other villagers.

Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai – A Sacred Moment of Love and Service

Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai were not merely a festive gathering; they were a beautiful reminder of divine love expressed through simplicity, devotion, and service. For devotees, a birthday of Bhagawan was never seen as an ordinary occasion. It was a sacred opportunity to renew faith, purify thoughts, and understand the deeper purpose of human life.

The atmosphere around such celebrations was filled with prayer, bhajans, discipline, and quiet joy. People came not only to see Bhagawan, but to feel the peace that radiated from His presence. The joy of the devotees was not based on decoration or grandeur alone. It came from the feeling that they were close to a living source of compassion.

Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai reflected the unique bond between the Divine and devotees. Many people travelled from different places with hearts full of longing. Some came with personal worries, some with gratitude, and some simply with love. Yet, in the presence of Bhagawan, all differences seemed to fade. Everyone felt like a member of one spiritual family.

The true beauty of the occasion was the message behind it. Bhagawan always taught that life should not be spent in selfish desires. Human birth becomes meaningful only when it is used for truth, righteousness, peace, love, and non-violence. Therefore, the celebration was not only about honoring Him, but also about absorbing His teachings and trying to live by them.

Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai also showed how devotion becomes complete through service. Feeding the hungry, helping the needy, speaking kindly, and living with humility are all forms of worship. Bhagawan’s life constantly showed that love should not remain as a feeling inside the heart; it should become action in the world.

The devotees who gathered must have felt an inner transformation. In front of Bhagawan, even simple moments became powerful. A glance, a smile, a word, or a blessing could stay in a devotee’s heart for a lifetime. Such experiences gave people courage to face difficulties and faith to walk the path of goodness.

Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai were also a reminder that spirituality is not separate from daily life. Bhagawan did not ask people to abandon their duties. Instead, He taught them to perform every duty with sincerity, love, and purity. A student, parent, worker, teacher, or leader could all become instruments of God through honest living.

The celebration carried a strong lesson on humility. Even when thousands gathered to honor Him, Bhagawan’s focus remained on guiding people toward inner discipline. He reminded everyone that real devotion is not loud display, but quiet transformation. A pure heart, truthful speech, and selfless conduct are greater offerings than external praise.

Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai invited devotees to look within themselves. The real celebration of the Divine is not complete if the mind remains full of anger, jealousy, ego, or selfishness. To celebrate Bhagawan truly means to reduce negative tendencies and allow love to become stronger than pride.

Every spiritual celebration has two sides: outer joy and inner awakening. The outer side includes songs, prayers, decorations, gatherings, and sacred programs. The inner side is more personal. It asks each devotee, “Am I becoming more loving? Am I serving more sincerely? Am I living closer to the truth?” This inner question gives the celebration its real value.

Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai continue to inspire because they point toward timeless values. Birthdays pass, years change, and generations move forward, but the message of divine love remains fresh. Bhagawan’s life teaches that the highest form of celebration is to make our own lives useful to others.

For a devotee, remembering this occasion is not just an act of history. It is a call to practice love today. When we help someone without expecting reward, forgive someone who hurt us, speak with gentleness, or pray with sincerity, we keep the spirit of the celebration alive.

Thirty-Fifth Birthday Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai remind us that the Divine does not seek luxury or praise. The Divine seeks a clean heart. The most meaningful gift a devotee can offer is a life filled with compassion, discipline, and selfless service.

In the end, such a celebration becomes more than an event. It becomes a path. It teaches us to move from devotion to transformation, from prayer to action, and from love for God to love for all. That is the real birthday offering: to live in a way that reflects His message and brings peace to the world.
