Holy Book of Bahá’í Faith
The central holy book of the Bahá’í Faith is the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, meaning “The Most Holy Book.” It was revealed by Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, in the 19th century. The Kitáb-i-Aqdas contains laws, teachings, and spiritual principles that guide Bahá’ís in their religious and personal lives. Other important sacred writings include the Kitáb-i-Íqán (The Book of Certitude), The Hidden Words, and numerous prayers and tablets revealed by Bahá’u’lláh. The Bahá’í scriptures emphasize the oneness of God, the unity of humanity, the harmony of science and religion, equality, justice, peace, and the progressive revelation of divine guidance.
The Bahá’í Faith has a rich body of sacred writings revealed by Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the religion. The central holy book of the Bahá’í Faith is the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, often translated as “The Most Holy Book.” Revealed by Bahá’u’lláh in the late nineteenth century, it contains laws, spiritual teachings, principles, and guidance for individual and community life. It is regarded as the principal book of laws for the Bahá’í community.
Another highly important work is the Kitáb-i-Íqán, or “The Book of Certitude.” It explains fundamental spiritual concepts and discusses the nature of revelation, the role of prophets, and the spiritual meaning of religious scriptures. The Hidden Words is also widely read by Bahá’ís. It consists of short spiritual passages that encourage people to develop virtues such as love, humility, honesty, compassion, and devotion to God.
The Bahá’í sacred writings also include numerous prayers, tablets, letters, and other works revealed by Bahá’u’lláh. Writings of the Báb, who preceded Bahá’u’lláh and is regarded as a Manifestation of God, are also important to Bahá’ís. In addition, the writings and interpretations associated with ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Bahá’u’lláh’s son and appointed interpreter, have an important place in Bahá’í religious life.
The teachings found throughout these writings emphasize the oneness of God, the unity of humanity, the essential harmony of religions, equality of women and men, the elimination of prejudice, justice, education, and the establishment of peace. The Bahá’í Faith teaches that humanity receives divine guidance progressively through successive Manifestations of God, including figures such as Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, the Báb, and Bahá’u’lláh.
For Bahá’ís around the world, these sacred writings provide spiritual guidance and encourage individuals to develop their character, serve humanity, strengthen communities, and contribute to the spiritual and material progress
