Adhyatma Ramayana is a deeply spiritual version of the story of Lord Rama. It is traditionally associated with the Brahmanda Purana and presents the events of the Ramayana along with teachings about the Supreme Self, devotion, Dharma, and spiritual knowledge. Unlike a simple historical or heroic story, Adhyatma Ramayana gives special importance to the divine nature of Lord Rama.
The text is divided into seven Kandas, similar to other Ramayana traditions. It describes the birth of Rama, His exile, the abduction of Sita, the search for Sita, Hanuman’s devotion, the battle in Lanka, and the return of Rama to Ayodhya.
A major feature of Adhyatma Ramayana is its Vedantic and devotional approach. Lord Rama is presented as the Supreme Divine, while Sita represents divine power. The conversations between Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and other characters contain teachings about the Self, Maya, Karma, Bhakti, and liberation.
The text teaches that sincere devotion, spiritual knowledge, righteous action, and surrender to God can help a person overcome ignorance and attachment. It also highlights the importance of Dharma, humility, faith, and devotion through the life and actions of Lord Rama and His devotees.
