Ajgaivinath Temple

The Ajgaibinath Temple, also known as Ajgaivinath Dham, is an ancient Shiva temple located on a rocky islet in the Ganges River at Sultanganj, in Bhagalpur district, Bihar.

It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, revered here as a self-manifested (Swayambhu) Shiva Lingam.

Mythological Significance & History

The temple’s origins trace back to the Treta Yuga, with legends indicating that Lord Rama worshipped Shiva here before battling Ravana.
The name “Ajgaibinath” derives from “Ajgav” (the bow), believed to have been given by Shiva at this location.
The site is also associated with Sage Jahnu, whose ashram once existed here. The Ganges is called Jahnavi because of his connection.
