Shri Kamalapati Ashtakam

Shri Kamalapati Ashtakam is the sacred hymn in praise of and as a prayer to Shri Kamalapati, a revered name of Lord Vishnu, who is also worshipped as Narayana, Hari, Govinda, Madhava, Keshava, and by many other divine names. As the divine consort of Goddess Lakshmi (Kamala), Lord Kamalapati is the embodiment of compassion, righteousness, protection, and eternal bliss.

Shri Kamalapati Ashtakam consists of eight beautiful verses, each describing the divine form, supreme qualities, boundless grace, and glorious deeds of Bhagwan Kamalapati. Every stanza inspires devotion, faith, and complete surrender to the Supreme Lord. The benefits of chanting this sacred hymn are traditionally cherished by devotees. It is believed that reciting Shri Kamalapati Ashtakam with devotion brings peace, prosperity, spiritual wisdom, protection, and the divine blessings of Lord Vishnu.

This sacred hymn is widely recited during daily worship, Vaikuntha Ekadashi, Vishnu-related festivals, and other auspicious occasions dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It encourages devotees to strengthen their devotion, seek the Lord’s grace, and attain spiritual upliftment through sincere worship.

Shri Kamalapati Ashtakam is presented in Devanagari and English scripts along with a simple English translation, enabling devotees to understand its profound meaning and recite it with devotion and reverence.

॥ श्री कमलापत्यष्टकम् ॥

भुजगतल्पगतं घनसुन्दरंगरुडवाहनमम्बुजलोचनम्।

नलिनचक्रगदाकरमव्ययंभजत रे मनुजाः कमलापतिम्॥1॥

Bhujaga-talpa-gatam ghana-sundaram garuda-vahanam ambuja-lochanam.

Nalina-chakra-gada-karam avyayam bhajata re manujah Kamalapatim. ॥1॥

O people, worship Lord Kamalapati, who reclines upon the serpent couch, whose dark and enchanting form radiates divine beauty, who rides Garuda, whose lotus-like eyes overflow with compassion, and who eternally bears the lotus, discus, and mace in His hands. He is the imperishable Lord worthy of all devotion.

अलिकुलासितकोमलकुन्तलंविमलपीतदुकूलमनोहरम्।

जलधिजाङ्कितवामकलेवरंभजत रे मनुजाः कमलापतिम्॥2॥

Alikula-asita-komala-kuntalam vimala-pita-dukula-manoharam.

Jaladhija-ankita-vama-kalevaram bhajata re manujah Kamalapatim.

Worship Lord Kamalapati, whose soft curly locks resemble swarms of black bees, who is adorned with spotless yellow garments, and whose left side is forever graced by Goddess Lakshmi, born from the Ocean of Milk.

किमु जपैश्च तपोभिरुताध्वरैरपिकिमुत्तमतीर्थनिषेवणैः।
किमुत शास्त्रकदम्बविलोकनैर्भजतरे मनुजाः कमलापतिम्॥3॥

Kimu Japais Cha Tapobhir Utadhvarair Api Kim Uttama Tirtha Nishevanaih.

Of what use are countless chants, severe austerities, elaborate sacrifices, pilgrimages to holy places, or the study of numerous scriptures? O people, simply worship Lord Kamalapati with sincere devotion.

मनुजदेहमिमं भुवि दुर्लभंसमधिगम्य सुरैरपि वाञ्छितम्।
विषयलम्पटतामपहाय वैभजत रे मनुजाः कमलापतिम्॥4॥

Vishaya Lampatatam Apahaya Vai Bhajata Re Manujah Kamalapatim.

This rare human birth is greatly cherished even by the celestial beings. Therefore, renounce attachment to worldly pleasures and devote yourselves wholeheartedly to the worship of LordNeither spouse, nor children, nor siblings, nor father, nor mother, nor relatives accompany a person after death. Therefore, O people, worship Lord Kamalapati, who alone remains your eternal companion. Kamalapati.

न वनिता न सुतो न सहोदरो नहि पिता जननी न च बान्धवः।
व्रजति साकमनेन जनेन वैभजत रे मनुजाः कमलापतिम्॥5॥

Na Vanita Na Suto Na Sahodaro Nahi Pita Janani Na Cha Bandhavah.
Vrajati Sakam Anena Janena Vai Bhajata Re Manujah Kamalapatim.

Neither spouse, nor children, nor siblings, nor father, nor mother, nor relatives accompany a person after death. Therefore, O people, worship Lord Kamalapati, who alone remains your eternal companion.

सकलमेव चलं सचराचरंजगदिदं सुतरां धनयौवनम्।
समवलोक्य विवेकदृशा द्रुतंभजत रे मनुजाः कमलापतिम्॥6॥

Sakalam Eva Chalam Sacharacharam Jagad Idam Sutaram Dhana Yauvanam.
Samavalokya Viveka Drisha Drutam Bhajata Re Manujah Kamalapatim.

Everything in this universe, whether moving or unmoving, is temporary. Wealth, youth, and worldly possessions quickly fade away. Realizing this truth through wisdom, worship Lord Kamalapati without delay.

विविधरोगयुतं क्षणभंगुरंपरवशं नवमार्गमलाकुलम्।
परिनिरीक्ष्य शरीरमिदं स्वकंभजत रे मनुजाः कमलापतिम्॥7॥

Parinirikshya Shariram Idam Svakam Bhajata Re Manujah Kamalapatim.

Reflect upon this body, which is afflicted by countless diseases, fragile, dependent, and destined to perish. Understanding its impermanent nature, O people, worship Lord Kamalapati.

मुनिवरैरनिशं हृदि भावितंशिवविरिञ्चिमहेन्द्रनुतं सदा।
मरणजन्मजराभयमोचनंभजत रे मनुजाः कमलापतिम्॥8॥

Worship Lord Kamalapati, who is constantly contemplated by great sages, praised by Lord Shiva, Brahma, and Indra, and who frees devotees from the fear of birth, old age, and death.

हरिपदाष्टकमेतदनुत्तमंपरमहंसजनेन समीरितम्।
पठति यस्तु समाहितचेतसाव्रजति विष्णुपदं स नरो ध्रुवम्॥9॥

Haripada Ashtakam Etad Anuttamam Paramahamsa Janena Samiritam.
Pathati Yastu Samahita Chetasa Vrajati Vishnu Padam Sa Naro Dhruvam.

This supreme hymn in praise of the holy feet of Lord Hari has been composed by the revered Paramahamsa. Whoever recites it with a focused and devoted mind surely attains the eternal abode of Lord Vishnu.
