Become a Jivanmukta
Not through matted locks, not through fiery lectures and erudition, not through the exhibition of miracles does one attain perfection of Knowledge of the Self. He in whom the two currents of Raga-Dvesha, egoism, lust and anger are destroyed in toto is ever happy and he is a Brahmin or liberated Sage or Jivanmukta. If the Vasanas and attachment to the objects of the world vanish entirely and if you are in that immovable state, you have become a Jivanmukta. You will abide in your own Self. You will rest in the non-dual supreme seat. The Jnana vision will arise in you. The light of wisdom will shine unobscured like the sun in the absence of clouds. You will never be attracted to any worldly object. You will be absolutely free from delusion and sorrow. You will actually feel that the Self alone pervades and permeates everywhere in this world. You will shine with Brahmic effulgence. You will possess equal vision and a balanced mind. You will be free from longing for sensual objects because the mind will always be made cool with Brahmic bliss. You will be bathed in the cool ambrosial nectar that dribbles from a contented and quiescent mind.Try to enjoy the sleepless sleep wherein all the senses and the mind remain in a state of quietude and the intellect ceases functioning. This sleepless sleep is Maha Nidra or super-conscious state. It is perfect awareness wherein the individual soul has merged itself into the Supreme Soul. There is no waking from this sleep. This show of names and forms has eventually vanished.

Become a Jivanmukta – Living Liberation, Self-Knowledge, and Inner Freedom

Become a Jivanmukta means to attain liberation while still living in the body. A Jivanmukta is not merely a learned person, a religious speaker, or someone who performs outer rituals. A Jivanmukta is one who has realized the true self and is free from inner bondage even while living in the world. Such a person may walk, speak, work, eat, serve, and interact with others, but inwardly remains established in peace, wisdom, and freedom.

Human beings usually live under the control of body-consciousness, desires, fears, ego, and attachment. They identify themselves with name, form, status, family, possessions, success, and failure. When these things change, the mind becomes disturbed. Pleasure creates attachment, pain creates sorrow, praise creates pride, and criticism creates hurt. This is ordinary bondage. Liberation begins when one understands that the true self is beyond all these changing experiences.

Become a Jivanmukta teaches that freedom is not only something to be attained after death. Spiritual freedom can begin here and now through right knowledge, pure living, meditation, selfless service, and detachment. The body may continue to experience heat and cold, health and sickness, comfort and discomfort, but the liberated one does not lose inner balance. They know themselves as the witness of all experiences.

The first step is discrimination. A seeker must learn to distinguish between the permanent and the temporary. The body changes, thoughts change, emotions change, relationships change, and outer conditions change. But the awareness that knows these changes remains present. By reflecting deeply on this truth, the seeker slowly reduces false identification with the body and mind.

Become a Jivanmukta also requires detachment. Detachment does not mean hatred of the world or neglect of duty. It means freedom from slavery to desire, possession, praise, and pleasure. A detached person uses the world wisely, serves sincerely, and performs duties responsibly, but does not depend on outer things for inner completeness. This inner independence is essential for liberation.

Purity of mind is another necessary foundation. A restless and impure mind cannot realize the self clearly. Anger, greed, jealousy, pride, lust, selfishness, and fear create disturbance. Truthfulness, non-violence, compassion, self-control, contentment, humility, and devotion purify the heart. When the mind becomes pure, it becomes a fit instrument for knowledge.

Meditation helps the seeker move from theory to direct experience. In meditation, one observes thoughts, emotions, and desires without being carried away by them. Slowly, the seeker realizes, “I am aware of the mind; therefore, I am not merely the mind.” This witnessing awareness becomes stronger with practice. Inner silence begins to reveal the freedom that was always present.

Become a Jivanmukta also depends on selfless action. Actions performed with ego and attachment bind the mind. Actions performed as duty, service, and offering purify the heart. A seeker should work sincerely without selfish craving for results. Success should not create pride, and failure should not create despair. This balanced action gradually weakens ego.

Devotion is also a powerful support. When the heart surrenders to the Divine, the burden of “I” and “mine” becomes lighter. Prayer, remembrance, chanting, and worship soften the ego and fill the heart with love. A devotee sees the Divine presence in all beings and serves them with humility. This devotion helps transform knowledge into living experience.

A Jivanmukta is marked by peace, not by display. Such a person may not perform miracles or seek followers. Their greatness is seen in freedom from selfishness, calmness in difficulty, compassion toward all, and equality in pleasure and pain. They are not controlled by anger, greed, pride, or fear. Their happiness does not depend on outer conditions.

Become a Jivanmukta means to live with awareness in every situation. When pleasure comes, remember that it is temporary. When pain comes, remember that it too will pass. When praise comes, remain humble. When blame comes, remain steady. When duties come, perform them without complaint. When silence comes, rest in the self. This practical wisdom turns daily life into spiritual practice.

The path requires patience. Deep-rooted tendencies do not disappear in one day. The mind may return to old habits, desires, and reactions. But the sincere seeker should continue. Every act of self-control, every moment of meditation, every noble thought, and every selfless service weakens bondage and strengthens freedom.

Knowledge is the final light. The seeker must understand not merely as an idea, but as living truth: “I am not the body, not the restless mind, not the changing ego. I am the witnessing consciousness, pure, peaceful, and free.” When this knowledge becomes firm, fear decreases, attachment weakens, and inner freedom shines naturally.

In the end, to Become a Jivanmukta is to awaken to freedom while living in the world. It is the state where wisdom guides action, love purifies relationships, detachment protects peace, and self-knowledge removes bondage. The liberated one lives simply, serves lovingly, acts wisely, and rests inwardly in the eternal self. This is the highest aim of human life and the crown of spiritual practice.
