Mimansa Darshan, also known as Purva Mimansa, is one of the six classical schools of Indian philosophy. It is traditionally associated with Maharishi Jaimini and focuses mainly on the meaning and authority of the Vedas. The word “Mimansa” means careful inquiry or deep investigation.
Mimansa teaches that the Vedas are an important source of knowledge and explains how Vedic teachings, duties, rituals, and actions should be understood and followed. It gives special importance to Dharma, which means performing one’s duties correctly and responsibly. The philosophy explains that actions have consequences and that following Dharma helps a person progress toward a higher spiritual state.
Mimansa also developed detailed methods of interpreting sacred texts. It discusses language, knowledge, duty, rituals, and the proper way to understand Vedic statements. Later Mimansa thinkers made important contributions to Indian philosophy, logic, grammar, and interpretation.
The main purpose of Mimansa is to understand Dharma through proper reasoning and the teachings of the Vedas. It encourages disciplined action, responsibility, truth, and respect for sacred knowledge.
