mahimnaḥ panthānaṃ madanaparipanthipraṇayini
prabhurnirṇētuṃ tē bhavati yatamānō’pi katamaḥ ।
tathāpi śrīkāñchīvihṛtirasikē kō’pi manasō
vipākastvatpādastutividhiṣu jalpākayati mām ॥1॥

हे कामदेव के शत्रु भगवान शिव की प्रिया! आपके अनंत महात्म्य का मार्ग बताने में कौन समर्थ हो सकता है? स्वयं प्रभु भी यदि प्रयास करें तो आपके गौरव का पूर्ण निर्णय करना कठिन है। फिर भी, हे श्रीकांची में विहार करने वाली देवी, मेरे मन में आपके चरणों की स्तुति करने की एक अद्भुत इच्छा उत्पन्न हुई है, जो मुझे बोलने के लिए प्रेरित करती है।

English Meaning:
O Beloved of Śiva, the adversary of Kāma! Who could ever fully determine the path of your infinite glory? Even the Lord Himself would find it difficult to measure your greatness. Yet, O Goddess who delights in Kāñchī, some ripened merit within my mind compels me to speak in praise of your sacred feet.

galagrāhī paurandarapuravanīpallavaruchāṃ
dhṛtapāthamyānāmaruṇamahasāmādimaguruḥ ।
samindhē bandhūkastabakasahayudhvā diśi diśi

Kāmākṣī’s lotus feet are like the supreme teachers of the graceful gait of swans. They are like celestial wish-fulfilling trees that protect the destitute and are perfectly capable of dispelling the dense darkness of ignorance. Therefore, this devotee longs for those sacred feet.

purandhrīsīmantē kavikamalabālārkasuṣamā ।
trayīsīmantinyāḥ stanataṭanichōlāruṇapaṭī

हे कामाक्षी! तुम्हारा चरणरूपी रत्न शास्त्रों के अमृत-सरोवर में स्नान करके निर्मल हुआ है और आनंद के अमृत से परिपूर्ण है। वह पृथ्वी का अलंकार तथा मुनियों के चैतन्यमय हृदय-सागर के भीतर छिपा हुआ अमूल्य रत्न है। मैं उसी की खोज करता हूँ।

English Meaning:
O Kāmākṣī! The jewel of your feet is bathed in the nectar-lake of scripture and filled with the nectar of bliss. It is an ornament of the earth and a precious gem hidden within the vast ocean of consciousness in the hearts of sages. I seek that sacred jewel.

हे जननी कामाक्षी! मेरा मन मोह से उत्पन्न अंधकार से भरे घर के समान है। तुम्हारे चरणरूपी मणिदीप की आधे क्षण की उपस्थिति भी हजारों सूर्यों की किरणों के समान उस अंधकार को नष्ट कर दे और अज्ञान को दूर कर दे।

English Meaning:
O Mother Kāmākṣī! My mind is like a house filled with the darkness born of delusion. May the jewel-lamp of your feet shine there even for half a moment, dispersing that darkness like the rays of a thousand suns and destroying ignorance.

O Kāmākṣī! Your beautiful foot is like a jeweled mirror capable of reflecting the radiance of the Supreme Self for those who bow before you. Even the tresses of celestial maidens such as Indrāṇī seem to strive to attain and refine themselves according to the purity of your feet.

हे शिवे, पर्वतराज की पुत्री! आपके चरणों की प्रचण्ड लालिमा के सामने संध्या की अरुणिमा भी फीकी पड़ जाती है। समान लालिमा वाले कमल भी आपके चरणों की शोभा का सामना करने में असमर्थ होकर प्रतिदिन अपनी कलियों को बंद कर लेते हैं—ऐसा मैं मानता हूँ।

O Kāmākṣī! I bow to Your beautiful feet, which are capable of bestowing the splendor of poetic expression, skilled in protecting the distressed, soft like exquisite lotuses and radiant with crimson rays. They are the refuge of the hearts of great sages, move with gentle grace, and destroy all sins.

O Kāmākṣī! Your two feet are beyond and higher than all things. They bestow liberation, and their coppery soles are illuminated by the moonlight of the toenails. Praised by the Vedas and worshiped by the gods, I seek refuge in those very feet before which the pride of blossoming lotuses is destroyed.

O Kāmākṣī! Your feet are naturally crimson and, through the clear sounds of their jeweled anklets, seem exceedingly eloquent. Yet they continually fill even those devoted to silence with bliss. How could such feet not make the understanding of human beings ever purer and more mature?

O Kāmākṣī! The lamp of Your feet shines in the upper chamber of the hearts of those who bow to You, driving away the darkness of ignorance. Then the immense waves of sinful actions within them, whirling like moths around that lamp, are destroyed and attain peace.

paraṃ rēkhārūpaṃ kamalamamumēvāśritamabhūt ।

pariṣkurvanmātaḥ paśupatikapardaṃ charaṇarāṭ
parāchāṃ hṛtpadmaṃ paramabhaṇitīnāṃ cha makuṭam ।

O Kāmākṣī! This perfected medicine of Your feet, which destroys the intense fever of dullness merely through remembrance and abides hidden within the forest of the profound truths of the Vedas, is not easily attained by everyone. Only a few blessed souls obtain it after seeking it for a long time.

raṇanmañjīrābhyāṃ lalitagamanābhyāṃ sukṛtināṃ
manōvāstavyābhyāṃ mathitatimirābhyāṃ nakharuchā ।
nidhēyābhyāṃ patyā nijaśirasi kāmākṣi satataṃ
namastē pādābhyāṃ nalinamṛdulābhyāṃ girisutē ॥96॥

हे गिरिसुते कामाक्षी! आपके उन चरणों को मैं सदा प्रणाम करता हूँ, जिनके नूपुर झंकारते हैं, जिनकी गति अत्यन्त ललित है, जो पुण्यात्माओं के मन में निवास करते हैं, जिनकी नख-कांति अज्ञान के अंधकार को नष्ट करती है और जो कमल के समान कोमल हैं। आपके इन चरणों को मैं अपने स्वामी के समान अपने मस्तक पर सदा धारण करना चाहता हूँ।

English Meaning:
O Daughter of the Mountain, Kāmākṣī! I ever bow to Your feet, whose anklets resound, whose movement is graceful, which dwell in the minds of the virtuous, whose nail-radiance destroys the darkness of ignorance, and which are tender like lotuses. May I ever place these sacred feet upon my head as my supreme Lord and refuge.

surāgē rākēndupratinidhimukhē parvatasutē
chirāllabhyē bhaktyā śamadhanajanānāṃ pariṣadā ।
manōbhṛṅgō matkaḥ padakamalayugmē janani tē

हे पर्वतसुते! पूर्णिमा के चन्द्रमा के समान मुख वाली देवी कामाक्षी! आपके चरणों का युगल शम और आत्मसंयम को धन मानने वाले भक्तों को दीर्घकालीन भक्ति से प्राप्त होता है। हे त्रिपुरासुर के संहारक भगवान शिव की वामाक्षि! मेरा मनरूपी भ्रमर आपके चरणकमलों के युगल में पूर्ण प्रेम से रमण करे।

English Meaning:
O Daughter of the Mountain, Kāmākṣī, whose face resembles the full moon! Your pair of feet is attained after long devotion by those who treasure peace and self-restraint. O Left-Eyed One of the Destroyer of Tripura, may the bee of my mind delight wholeheartedly in the twin lotuses of Your feet.

śanairgatyāgatyā jitasuravarēbhē girisutē ।

O Śivā, embodiment of Consciousness, most beloved of the crescent-crested Lord, O Daughter of the Mountain! The saints, progressing gradually along the path of spiritual practice, strive to bind firmly and forever the herd of their restless minds to the twin lotus-stalks of Your feet.

O Mother Kāmākṣī! The practice of bowing at Your feet bestows fame, grants the gift of sweet poetry, beautifies the eyes, brings prosperity and spiritual maturity to the heart, and loosens the knots of bondage that bind the virtuous. What is there that the worship of Your feet cannot accomplish for one who takes refuge in them?

manīṣāṃ māhēndrīṃ kakubhamiva tē kāmapi daśāṃ
pradhattē kāmākṣyāścharaṇataruṇādityakiraṇaḥ ।

O Kāmākṣī! The young-sun-like rays of Your feet bestow upon the seeker a state of profound intelligence, vast and exalted like the quarter of Indra. When the speech of poets comes into contact with Your feet, the fragrant lotus of their inspired utterances ripens, filled with the sweetness of poetic nectar.

O Mother, Daughter of the King of the Himalayas! In ancient times, the enemy of Kāma, Lord Śiva, conquered the three cities after becoming pleased through hundreds of hymns offered to You. Therefore, O Kāmākṣī, may the twin lotuses of Your feet swiftly manifest within my mind when the destined moment arrives.

padadvandvaṃ mandaṃ gatiṣu nivasantaṃ hṛdi satāṃ

O Mother Kāmākṣī! Your pure pair of feet moves with gentle and graceful slowness. They dwell within the hearts of the virtuous and reveal their glory even at the culmination of exalted speech. They generate bliss in those who bow to You. To such pure feet of Yours, I bow every day.

Whoever daily recites with devotion this hundred-verse hymn to the lotus feet of Goddess Kāmākṣī, which brings joy to the entire world, becomes worthy of reverence by all and a unique ornament among the world of poets. Having enjoyed worldly blessings for a long time, such a devotee ultimately attains the supreme state of pure Consciousness.
