A beautiful presentation on the Cosmic ‘Liberatory’ Theme called ‘Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu’ by The Prasanthi Reporter. (Script, Concept and Voice by ‘Mother Sai Poet’ Sri Jullie Chaudhuri for The Prasanthi Reporter)
Dear Sisters and Brothers…Loving Loving Sai Ram…Peace of the soul and Harmony for all! We are here to hear and connect to a distinctly selfless mantra. Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu.
As we have all seen, heard, read and witnessed our Beloved Bhagawan’s teachings and the examples set by Him, the welfare of all beings is what He stresses on…Consequently, on 31st August 2008, Bhagawan modified Lokaah Samastha Sukhino Bhavantu which interprets as – May all the beings in this world be happy and peaceful… to now be intoned as – Samastha Lokaah Sukhino Bhavantu…that it may exude peace for all the beings in all the worlds.
Is it not imperative then that we chant this mantra for Universal peace?
As we keep chanting this, the mantra becomes ‘us’ – universal seva. The bonus is that along with peace, this revives a feeling of brotherhood, camaraderie and the chorus of kindred oneness.
Beings of light did spring forth from the silence deep within the Lord’s heart and so we are all connected and never apart…for those beings are us all…
Many are the challenges faced by the individual, the society, and the world, and this is having serious repercussions on and is a constant threat to Mother Earth…a threat that is gathering enormous momentum…

Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu – A Prayer for Universal Peace
Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu is a sacred prayer that carries the spirit of universal love, compassion, and harmony. It does not ask for happiness only for one person, one family, one nation, or one community. It expands the heart beyond selfish limits and prays for the welfare of all beings in all worlds. Such a prayer reminds us that true spirituality is never narrow; it embraces the whole creation.
In daily life, many people pray for personal success, health, wealth, safety, and peace. There is nothing wrong in asking for support during need. But a higher form of prayer begins when we include others in our concern. The heart becomes purer when it can say, “May everyone be happy. May everyone be safe. May everyone be free from suffering.” This feeling makes prayer selfless and divine.
Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu teaches that all life is connected. Human beings, animals, birds, trees, rivers, and the earth itself are part of one larger existence. When one part of creation suffers, the balance of the whole is disturbed. Therefore, wishing well for all beings is not only a noble thought; it is also a reminder of our shared responsibility.
This prayer also helps reduce ego. The ego thinks only in terms of “I,” “me,” and “mine.” It worries about personal comfort and often ignores the pain of others. But when we sincerely pray for the happiness of all, the heart slowly becomes wider. We begin to understand that our peace is incomplete if we remain indifferent to the suffering around us.
Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu is especially meaningful in a world filled with division, conflict, competition, and fear. People are often separated by religion, caste, language, country, wealth, and opinion. This prayer gently removes such boundaries from the heart. It reminds us that every being seeks happiness, protection, food, dignity, love, and peace. The outer differences may be many, but the inner longing is one.
The beauty of this prayer lies in its simplicity. It can be chanted by a child, reflected upon by a seeker, and practiced by anyone in daily life. Its meaning is not limited to words. If we truly want all beings to be happy, our actions should also support that wish. We should speak kindly, avoid hurting others, serve where help is needed, and live with greater awareness.
Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu becomes practical when compassion enters our choices. Feeding the hungry, helping the sick, protecting animals, planting trees, saving water, and respecting nature are all ways of living this prayer. A person who chants for universal welfare but acts selfishly has not fully understood its depth. Prayer becomes complete when it turns into service.
This sacred thought also teaches non-violence. Violence is not only physical harm. Harsh words, cruel thoughts, selfish decisions, and careless habits can also hurt life. When we pray for the happiness of all worlds, we must become careful about the energy we send into the world. A peaceful mind, gentle speech, and helpful action are powerful offerings.
Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu can bring healing to relationships as well. Instead of holding anger, jealousy, or revenge, we can silently pray for the well-being of those who trouble us. This does not mean we support wrong behavior or lose wisdom. It means we refuse to fill our own heart with hatred. Wishing good for others frees us from inner bitterness.
The prayer also encourages humility before the Divine. We may work hard and do our duties, but the welfare of all creation is beyond human power alone. By offering this prayer, we acknowledge that divine grace is needed for peace in hearts, homes, societies, and the world. It is a prayer of surrender, love, and responsibility.
For devotees of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, this prayer holds special importance because it reflects His message of love all and serve all. Swami constantly reminded humanity that love must expand beyond narrow attachments. He wanted people to see God in every being and serve society with a pure heart. This prayer beautifully carries that universal vision.
In the end, Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu is not only a chant; it is a way of living. It asks us to rise above selfishness and become instruments of peace. When our thoughts become kind, our words become gentle, and our actions become helpful, this prayer begins to shine through us. A heart that sincerely prays for all beings becomes a blessing to the world.
