The Play of Life
Om Sri Sai Ram
Play Of Life
The play is His
The role is His gift
The lines are written by Him
He directs, He decides the dress and decoration,
The gesture and the tone,
The entrance and the exit.
You have to act well to receive His approbation
When the curtain falls
Earn by your efficiency and enthusiasm
The right to play higher and higher roles
That is the meaning and purpose of life
Living with God is the true education
Living for God is the true devotion
Living in God is the true spirituality.
Truth is the mother
Wisdom is the father
Right conduct is the brother
Compassion is the friend
Peace is the spouse
Forgiveness is the son
These six alone are the real relations for every one. -Baba.
The Play of Life – A Sacred Journey of Lessons, Love, and Awakening
Life is not always easy to understand. Sometimes it feels joyful and beautiful, while at other times it becomes painful, confusing, and uncertain. The Play of Life is a meaningful expression that reminds us that every experience has a purpose, even when the mind cannot understand it immediately. Like a great drama, life brings different roles, scenes, emotions, tests, and turning points. Each moment teaches something to the soul and helps us grow toward wisdom, strength, and inner peace.
Every person enters this world with a unique path. Some are born into comfort, while others face struggles from the beginning. Some receive love easily, while others search for it for years. But behind every journey, there is a deeper lesson. The Play of Life teaches that we should not judge our entire existence by one difficult chapter. A painful scene is not the end of the story. Many times, the same pain becomes the reason for our awakening.
In this world, people play many roles. A person may be a child, parent, friend, student, worker, leader, or devotee. These roles keep changing with time. Childhood passes, youth changes, relationships shift, and responsibilities grow. Yet the soul remains the silent witness behind all these roles. When we understand this, we begin to live with more balance. We perform our duties sincerely, but we do not become completely lost in temporary identities.
The Play of Life also shows us that nothing remains permanent. Happiness comes and goes. Pain also comes and goes. Success rises and falls. Praise and criticism both change. If we become too attached to pleasant moments, we suffer when they pass. If we become too disturbed by painful moments, we forget that they too will pass. Wisdom lies in accepting both joy and sorrow with patience.
The Divine often teaches through life’s situations. A delay may teach patience. A loss may teach detachment. A mistake may teach humility. A failure may teach courage. A difficult person may teach forgiveness. Every scene has a hidden message. The Play of Life becomes meaningful when we stop asking only, “Why did this happen to me?” and begin asking, “What is life trying to teach me through this?”
Many people believe that they are the complete controllers of life. They plan everything and feel disappointed when things do not happen according to their wishes. Effort is necessary, but control is limited. We can choose our actions, but not always the results. We can make plans, but life may still take another direction. This is why surrender is important. Surrender does not mean weakness. It means trusting a higher wisdom while continuing to do our duty.
The Play of Life becomes peaceful when we learn to act without too much attachment to results. If success comes, we should remain humble. If failure comes, we should remain steady. Both are part of the same journey. A person who understands this becomes stronger than circumstances. Such a person does not stop living because of pain, nor does he become arrogant because of success.
Relationships are also an important part of life’s play. Some people enter our life to love us, some to test us, some to teach us, and some to awaken us. Not every relationship stays forever, but every relationship leaves an impression. The wise heart learns gratitude from love and wisdom from pain. Instead of carrying bitterness, it learns to bless the past and continue forward with a cleaner heart.
The Play of Life also reminds us that laughter and tears both have value. Tears soften the heart, while laughter gives strength to continue. If life had only happiness, we might never become deep. If life had only sorrow, we might lose hope. The mixture of both creates maturity. A person who has suffered and still chooses kindness has truly understood something sacred.
In spiritual understanding, the world is often seen as a stage where the soul learns through experience. We are actors, but we are also learners. The body, name, position, and possessions are costumes for a while. One day, everything outer will be left behind. What remains is the quality of the heart, the purity of actions, and the love we shared. This truth helps us live more consciously.
The Play of Life is not meant to make us careless. It is meant to make us aware. Since every action matters, we should speak kindly, work honestly, serve selflessly, and forgive whenever possible. We should not waste life in jealousy, ego, hatred, or regret. A scene once passed does not return in the same way. Every moment is precious, and every moment can become sacred when lived with awareness.
The greatest beauty of life is that transformation is always possible. A person who was once angry can become peaceful. A person who was once selfish can become compassionate. A person who was once lost can find direction. As long as breath remains, growth remains possible. The Divine gives every soul many chances to rise, learn, and return to goodness.
In the end, The Play of Life is a sacred reminder that life is a journey of learning, surrender, love, and awakening. We may not understand every scene today, but with faith, we can trust that nothing is meaningless. The soul grows through joy and sorrow, meeting and separation, victory and failure. When we live with devotion, humility, and wisdom, life no longer feels like a burden. It becomes a divine play where every moment leads us closer to truth, peace, and the eternal presence of the Divine.
