तस्मै नमः परमकारणकारणाय
दीप्तोज्ज्वलज्ज्वलितपिङ्गललोचनाय।
नागेन्द्रहारकृतकुण्डलभूषणाय
ब्रह्मेन्द्रविष्णुवरदाय नमः शिवाय॥1॥
Tasmai Namah Paramakarana Karanaya Diptojjvala Jvalita Pingala Lochanaya Nagendra Hara Krita Kundala Bhushanaya Brahmendra Vishnu Varadaya Namah Shivaya॥1॥
Meaning
I bow to Lord Shiva, who is the supreme cause behind all causes and the origin of the universe. His radiant golden-brown eyes shine with divine brilliance. He is adorned with the king of serpents as a garland and wears beautiful serpent-shaped earrings. He is the bestower of boons even to Brahma, Indra, and Vishnu. Salutations to Lord Shiva.
श्रीमत्प्रसन्नशशिपन्नगभूषणाय
शैलेन्द्रजावदनचुम्बितलोचनाय।
कैलासमन्दरमहेन्द्रनिकेतनाय
लोकत्रयार्तिहरणाय नमः शिवाय॥2॥
Shrimat Prasanna Shashi Pannaga Bhushanaya Shailendraja Vadana Chumbita Lochanaya Kailasa Mandara Mahendra Niketanaya Lokatrayarti Haranaya Namah Shivaya॥2॥
Meaning:
Salutations to Lord Shiva, whose serene face is adorned with the crescent moon and sacred serpents. His eyes are lovingly blessed by the glance of Goddess Parvati, the daughter of the Himalayas. He resides on Mount Kailash, Mount Mandara, and the celestial mountains. He removes the suffering of all beings in the three worlds.
पद्मावदातमणिकुण्डलगोवृषाय
कृष्णागरुप्रचुरचन्दनचर्चिताय।
भस्मानुषक्तविकचोत्पलमल्लिकाय
नीलाब्जकण्ठसदृशाय नमः शिवाय॥3॥

Meaning
I bow to Lord Shiva, who shines with lotus-like purity and wears jewel-studded earrings. He is associated with the sacred bull Nandi and is anointed with fragrant sandalwood and agaru paste. His body is beautified with holy ash and garlands of blooming lotuses and jasmine flowers. His blue throat, gained after consuming the deadly poison during the churning of the ocean, is glorious.
लम्बत्सपिङ्गलजटामुकुटोत्कटाय
दंष्ट्राकरालविकटोत्कटभैरवाय।
व्याघ्राजिनाम्बरधराय मनोहराय
त्रैलोक्यनाथनमिताय नमः शिवाय॥4॥
Lambat Sapingala Jata Mukutotkataya Damshtra Karala Vikatotkata Bhairavaya Vyaghrajinambara Dharaya Manoharaya Trailokyanatha Namitaya Namah Shivaya॥4॥
Meaning
Salutations to Lord Shiva, whose long reddish matted locks form a majestic crown. In His fierce form as Bhairava, He possesses terrifying fangs that destroy evil. He wears the skin of a tiger as His garment and yet remains infinitely attractive and compassionate. Even the rulers of the three worlds bow before Him.
दक्षप्रजापतिमहामखनाशनाय
क्षिप्रं महात्रिपुरदानवघातनाय।
ब्रह्मोर्जितोर्ध्वगकरोटिनिकृन्तनाय
योगाय योगनमिताय नमः शिवाय॥5॥
Daksha Prajapati Mahamakha Nashanaya Kshipram Mahatripura Danava Ghatanaya Brahmorjitordhvaga Karoti Nikrintanaya Yogaya Yoga Namitaya Namah Shivaya॥5॥
Meaning
I offer my salutations to Lord Shiva, who destroyed the great sacrifice of Daksha Prajapati because of his arrogance. He swiftly destroyed the mighty Tripura demons and cut off the fifth head of Brahma to remove pride. He is the Supreme Yogi, worshipped by all seekers of Yoga and spiritual wisdom.
संसारसृष्टिघटनापरिवर्तनाय
रक्षः पिशाचगणसिद्धसमाकुलाय।
सिद्धोरगग्रहगणेन्द्रनिषेविताय
शार्दूलचर्मवसनाय नमः शिवाय॥6॥
Samsara Srishti Ghatana Parivartanaya Rakshah Pishacha Gana Siddha Samakulaya Siddhoraga Graha Ganendra Nishevitaya Shardula Charma Vasanaya Namah Shivaya॥6॥
Meaning
Salutations to Lord Shiva, who creates, sustains, and transforms the universe. He is surrounded by divine attendants, celestial beings, siddhas, serpents, and even spirits and mystical beings who serve Him. Clad in a tiger skin, He is beyond all distinctions and is the Lord of every form of existence.
भस्माङ्गरागकृतरूपमनोहराय
सौम्यावदातवनमाश्रितमाश्रिताय।
गौरीकटाक्षनयनार्धनिरीक्षणाय
गोक्षीरधारधवलाय नमः शिवाय॥7॥
Bhasmangaraga Krita Rupa Manoharaya Saumyavadata Vanam Ashrita Mashritaya Gauri Kataksha Nayanardha Nirikshanaya Gokshira Dhara Dhavalaya Namah Shivaya॥7॥
Meaning
I bow to Lord Shiva, whose body is beautifully adorned with sacred ash. Though He dwells in forests and secluded places, He grants refuge to all who seek Him. He lovingly gazes upon Goddess Gauri, and His complexion is as pure and white as a stream of fresh cow’s milk.

Salutations to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped by Surya (the Sun), Chandra (the Moon), Varuna (the God of Waters), and Vayu (the Wind God). He dwells in the sacred fire of Vedic sacrifices. The sages praise Him through the hymns of the Rig Veda and Sama Veda. He is the divine protector of all beings and is worshipped by gods and devotees alike.
शिवाष्टकमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेत् शिवसन्निधौ।
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते॥
॥ इति श्री शङ्कराचार्यकृतं शिवाष्टकं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
Shivashtakam Idam Punyam Yah Pathet Shiva Sannidhau Shivalokam Avapnoti Shivena Saha Modate॥
Meaning
Whoever recites this sacred Shivashtakam in the presence of Lord Shiva with devotion attains Shivaloka , the divine abode of Lord Shiva, and enjoys eternal bliss in His company.
