Ramcharitmanas is one of the most beloved devotional works in Hindu tradition. It was written by Goswami Tulsidas in the 16th century and tells the sacred story of Lord Rama, His life, exile, the abduction of Sita, the search for her, and the battle with Ravana. It is written mainly in Awadhi and is widely read and recited by devotees.
Ramcharitmanas is divided into seven Kandas: Bala Kanda, Ayodhya Kanda, Aranya Kanda, Kishkindha Kanda, Sundara Kanda, Lanka Kanda, and Uttara Kanda. Each Kanda describes important events in the life of Lord Rama and presents valuable spiritual and moral teachings.
The central theme of Ramcharitmanas is Dharma and devotion. Lord Rama is shown as an ideal son, brother, husband, king, and devotee of righteousness. The text also beautifully presents the devotion of Hanuman, the loyalty of Lakshmana and Bharata, and the purity and strength of Mata Sita.
Ramcharitmanas teaches values such as truth, compassion, humility, courage, sacrifice, loyalty, and faith in God. Its beautiful verses have had a deep influence on Indian devotional culture, music, theatre, festivals, and religious traditions.
