Chintaman Ganesh Temple

The Chintaman Ganesh Temple is one of the most ancient and revered temples of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, it is believed that the idol here is self-manifested (Swayambhu).

॥ वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभः ।
निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा ॥

The temple is a major spiritual destination for devotees seeking relief from worries and obstacles in life.

Mythological Significance & History

The temple dates back to the 11th century, during the Paramara dynasty.
Its sanctum is believed to be much older than the present temple structure, which was renovated later by the Marathas.
According to local legends, even King Vikramaditya worshipped Lord Ganesha here.
The name Chintaman comes from “Chinta” (worries) and “Mani” (jewel), symbolizing the one who removes all worries and grants peace.

Significance of the Temple

Lord Ganesha here is worshipped as Chintaman, the remover of obstacles, sorrows, and worries.
Devotees believe that praying here helps in overcoming life problems, family issues, financial troubles, and marriage delays.
The temple is also popular for its connection to new beginnings, making it a must-visit for devotees before starting important tasks.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple is built in ancient Paramara style, with later Maratha influence.

The main sanctum (Garbhagriha) houses the swayambhu idol of Lord Ganesha.

The idol depicts Lord Ganesha with his consorts, Riddhi and Siddhi, symbolizing prosperity and wisdom.

Carvings on the pillars and walls showcase the blend of spirituality and traditional craftsmanship.

The temple is situated on the banks of the Kshipra River, adding to its sanctity.

How to Reach to Temple

By Air: The nearest airport is Indore (56 km), well connected with major cities.

By Train: Ujjain Junction (7 km) is the closest railway station. Autos and taxis are available.

By Road: Ujjain is well-connected by buses and taxis from Indore, Bhopal, and other Madhya Pradesh cities. The temple is about 7 km from the city center.
