Bhagawan’s Five Letter Pronouncement – GOD ‘IS’
More than a decade ago during one of the ‘famed’ Trayee’ sessions in Brindavan, Whitefield, Bengaluru, as the Conversations with The Divine went on, Bhagawan hinted at a ‘would be’ time, during His physical reign, a time of absolute profundity marked with great happenings. Excited beyond reason, one of the seniors asked Bhagawan: ‘Swami, what sadhana we should do to be eligible to witness these happenings?’ Bhagawan’s response was straight and simple. No sadhana is required; all you have to do is to know that ‘Sai Baba Is God’. Did not He indicate this ‘True Truth’ to you and me time and again, over and over again, as His ‘SaiLent’ reminder??? Reminiscing and relishing ‘The Ultimate Presence On Planet Earth’ Sri Jullie Chaudhuri from Pune writes about Him, The Beauty Beyond Compare Lord Supreme, His Darshan, the epochal Sri Sathya Sai Darshana Mahotsavam and His famous Five-Letter Pronouncement, God Is… Read on…
After having seen that Most Dearest Form…do I want to set my eyes on anything else? After having heard that Divine mellow voice… do these ears need hear any other sound? After having known that Divine fragrance what else is there to breathe? What can be more sublime, what more is there to gain, what greater boon than the sight of this Loving, Living God?
The Formless Absolute chose an Enchanting Form, taking on hues of orange-gold, encapsulating Sathya, Dharma, Shanti, Prema, Ahimsa; ennobling, engaging, enriching, endearing, enhancing, elevating and enlightening humanity to hitherto unscaled dimensions.
Every particle that forms Sai Kulwant Hall echoes an immense gratitude at the honour endowed upon it by The Lord of the Universe, as He encircled its premises at every Darshan, energising the gathering along with each particle of dust.
And, as He so did encircle Sai Kulwant Hall, He ensured that His boundless aura – that magnificent cascade of pink hues, did enfold, ensconce, enwrap each and every atom, not only within this hallowed hall, but over the surrounding hills, embracing the distant horizon through.
None can gauge, fathom or evaluate what we receive from Beloved Bhagawan, just like Him this too remains an eternal enigma, a mystery, a puzzle. Though the onus remains with us to reflect His life and message of innate compassion and selflessly serve all life forms through every moment that time and destiny decidedly sends our way.
Let us imbibe what He does pronounce – “On this Guru Purnima day I do not intend to give you any Ashtakshari (eight letter) or Panchaakshari (five-letter) mantra based on any particular deity’s name. Nor Am I enjoining you to study any Upanishad, or the Gita or the Brahma Sutras. There is a simple five-letter pronouncement – “God Is.” (‘Devudunnaadu’). Make this your sheet-anchor. If you go on reciting it, thinking over it, acting up to it and conveying it to others, immersing yourself in the bliss of this experience, you will be making the greatest contribution to the welfare of the world. (Swami recited a poem on the glories of God’s creation to prove “Devudunnaadu”).
Bhagawan’s Five Letter Pronouncement – A Sacred Call To Love, Faith, And Transformation
Bhagawan’s Five Letter Pronouncement is a powerful spiritual theme that reminds devotees how a few divine words can carry the strength to transform an entire life. When the Divine speaks, the message may look simple on the surface, but its depth is endless. A small sentence from Bhagawan can guide the mind, awaken the heart, and give courage to the soul.
Human beings often believe that wisdom must be long, complex, or difficult to understand. But divine wisdom is usually simple, direct, and filled with love. A short teaching can become a lifetime practice if received with faith. The problem is not that God’s message is unclear; the real challenge is whether we are ready to live it sincerely.
Bhagawan’s Five Letter Pronouncement teaches that every divine instruction must be accepted with reverence. The Lord does not speak to impress the intellect. He speaks to awaken conscience and purify conduct. His words are like seeds. If planted in a pure heart and watered with practice, they grow into peace, strength, devotion, and service.
Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba often gave teachings that were easy to remember and deep enough to guide every situation. Love all, serve all; help ever, hurt never are not merely beautiful sayings. They are complete directions for spiritual living. If followed honestly, they can remove selfishness, soften speech, and make life useful to others.
Bhagawan’s Five Letter Pronouncement becomes meaningful when it moves from hearing to practice. Many people listen to sacred words, repeat them, and admire them, but continue to live with anger, ego, jealousy, and harshness. Divine teaching fulfills its purpose only when it changes thought, word, and deed.
A devotee should receive Bhagawan’s words like medicine for the heart. Medicine must be taken, not only kept in a bottle. In the same way, spiritual instruction must be applied in daily life. If Bhagawan asks us to love, we must reduce hatred. If He asks us to serve, we must reduce selfishness. If He asks us to trust, we must reduce fear.
Bhagawan’s Five Letter Pronouncement also reminds us that the Lord’s message is personal. Even when spoken to many people, each devotee can feel that it is meant for his own heart. One person may need faith. Another may need discipline. Another may need patience. Another may need surrender. Divine words reach each heart according to its need.
The power of a short divine message is that it can be remembered during ordinary life. In moments of anger, it can stop the tongue from hurting someone. In moments of fear, it can bring courage. In moments of pride, it can remind us of humility. In moments of confusion, it can guide us back to truth.
Bhagawan’s Five Letter Pronouncement finally teaches that spiritual life is not built only on emotion. It needs obedience, effort, and steady practice. A devotee may feel great love for Swami, but that love should become discipline. The real offering to Bhagawan is not only flowers, songs, or tears, but a life lived according to His guidance.
Faith grows when we follow divine words and see their effect. When we speak gently, relationships become peaceful. When we serve humbly, the heart becomes joyful. When we forgive, the burden becomes lighter. When we remember God, fear becomes weaker. Practice proves the power of the message.
The Divine does not ask for impossible things. He asks for sincerity. A person may not become perfect in one day, but every honest effort is seen by God. Each small victory over anger, selfishness, laziness, or pride becomes a step toward inner transformation. Grace supports the devotee who tries sincerely.
A sacred pronouncement should also make us responsible. If we know Bhagawan’s teaching, we must not live carelessly. Our conduct should reflect devotion. People should feel peace through our words, kindness through our actions, and sincerity through our behavior. In this way, the message becomes alive through us.
In the end, Bhagawan’s Five Letter Pronouncement is a reminder that divine words are not ordinary sounds; they are living guidance. They call us to love more deeply, serve more humbly, trust more firmly, and live more purely. When the devotee accepts such a message with faith and practices it with devotion, life becomes peaceful, purposeful, and blessed with Bhagawan’s grace.
