Go Suktam
ā gāvō̍ agmannu̠ta bha̠drama̍kra̠ntsīda̍ntu gō̠ṣṭhē ra̠ṇaya̍ntva̠smē ।
pra̠jāva̍tīḥ puru̠rupā̍ i̠ha syu̠rindrā̍ya pū̠rvīru̠ṣasō̠ duhā̍nāḥ ॥ 1
May the cows come to us bringing auspiciousness and prosperity. May they enter our cowshed and remain there happily, giving us joy. May they be blessed with many offspring and appear in many beautiful forms. May they yield abundant milk like the nourishing rays of dawn for Lord Indra.
indrō̠ yajva̍nē pṛṇa̠tē cha̍ śikṣa̠tyupēdda̍dāti̠ na sva-mmā̍ṣuyati ।
bhūyō̍bhūyō ra̠yimida̍sya va̠rdhaya̠nnabhi̍nnē khi̠lyē ni da̍dhāti dēva̠yum ॥ 2
Indra teaches and blesses the person who performs sacrifices and gives offerings. He approaches and grants wealth without taking away what belongs to them. Increasing prosperity again and again, he places abundant riches in the secure home of the devoted worshipper.
na tā na̍śanti̠ na da̍bhāti̠ taska̍rō̠ nāsā̍māmi̠trō vyathi̠rā da̍dharṣati ।
dē̠vāṃścha̠ yābhi̠ryaja̍tē̠ dadā̍ti cha̠ jyōgittābhi̍-ssachatē̠ gōpa̍ti-ssa̠ha ॥ 3
These cows never perish and no thief can harm them. No enemy can overpower or disturb them. Through these cows, the worshipper performs sacrifices and gives offerings to the gods. The protector of cows lives together with them in harmony and prosperity.
na tā arvā̍ rē̠ṇuka̍kāṭō aśnutē̠ na sa̍ṃskṛta̠tramupa̍ yanti̠ tā a̠bhi ।
u̠ru̠gā̠yamabha̍ya̠-ntasya̠ tā anu̠ gāvō̠ marta̍sya̠ vi cha̍ranti̠ yajva̍naḥ ॥ 4
No harmful person or destructive force can approach these cows. They do not come under the control of those who act wrongly. These cows move freely around the sacrificer, giving him wide protection, security, and fearlessness.
gāvō̠ bhagō̠ gāva̠ indrō̍ ma achChā̠-ngāva̠-ssōma̍sya pratha̠masya̍ bha̠kṣaḥ ।
i̠mā yā gāva̠-ssa ja̍nāsa̠ indra̍ i̠chChāmīddhṛ̠dā mana̍sā chi̠dindra̍m ॥ 5
Cows are my fortune; cows are my Indra. Cows are the first share of the sacred Soma offering. O people, these cows are truly precious. With my heart and mind, I desire the blessings of Indra through these divine cows.
yū̠ya-ṅgā̍vō mēdayathā kṛ̠śa-ñchi̍daśrī̠ra-ñchi̍tkṛṇuthā su̠pratī̍kam ।
bha̠dra-ṅgṛ̠ha-ṅkṛ̍ṇutha bhadravāchō bṛ̠hadvō̠ vaya̍ uchyatē sa̠bhāsu̍ ॥ 6
O cows, you nourish and strengthen even the weak and thin. You make the unhealthy person beautiful and full of vitality. Make our home blessed and prosperous. O auspicious ones, may your greatness and glory be praised in assemblies.
pra̠jāva̍tī-ssū̠yava̍saṃ ri̠śantī̍-śśu̠ddhā a̠pa-ssu̍prapā̠ṇē piba̍ntīḥ ।
mā va̍-sstē̠na ī̍śata̠ māghaśa̍ṃsa̠ḥ pari̍ vō hē̠ti ru̠drasya̍ vṛjyāḥ ॥ 7
May these cows, blessed with offspring and good pasture, move freely and drink pure water from excellent sources. May no thief control you and may no evil person harm you. May the weapon of Rudra remain far away from you.
upē̠damu̍pa̠parcha̍namā̠su gōṣūpa̍ pṛchyatām ।
upa̍ ṛṣa̠bhasya̠ rēta̠syupē̍ndra̠ tava̍ vī̠ryē̍ ॥ 8
May one approach these cows with respect and care. May their presence be honoured and valued. May they be connected with the strength and vitality of the divine bull. O Indra, may we receive your power and blessings through them.
ōṃ śānti̠-śśānti̠-śśānti̍ḥ ॥
