Man’s Life Force
As we herald the New Year with gaiety and delight, let’s recapitulate the illuminating message of Bhagavan given on this occasion more than a decade ago, in 1994.
Embodiments of love! Brahman (the supreme self)is full of love and, in fact, is the embodiment of love. Your love should merge with this love. It is the only one and there is no second; it is the non-dual state. The essential nature of love is sacrifice. Under any circumstance it does not give room for hatred. It is love that brings even a person far away closer and more intimate to you. It is love that drives away the feeling of separateness and promotes the feeling of oneness. Love also raises a person from the animal to the human. Prema (Love) is the Praana (Life-Force) of man; in fact, this Praana itself is Prema. One without love is like a corpse. Love is shown only to persons who are alive. No one loves a corpse. Love and life are therefore inter-related and intimately connected.
Three Chief Characteristics of Divine Love
In this worldly life, love manifests in several forms such as the love between mother and son, husband and wife, and between relatives. This love, based on physical relationships, arises out of selfish motives and self-interest. But the love of the Divine is devoid of any trace of self-interest. It is love for the sake of love alone. This is called Bhakthi (devotion). One characteristic of this love is to give and not to receive. Secondly, love knows no fear. Thirdly, it is only for love’s sake and not for selfish motive. All these three angles of love jointly connote Prapatthi (Surrender). When one revels in this attitude of Prapatthi, one experiences the bliss of the Divine. For this, the prime requisite is Kshama (forgiveness).
Only a person who has this attitude of forgivenesscan be considered to be endowed with sacred love. This cannot be learned from textbooks; nor can it be acquired from preceptors, or from anyone else. It is to be cultivated by oneself in times of difficulties, trials and tribulations that one is forced to meet. Only when we face problems and difficulties that cause grief and misery, this quality of forbearance and forgiveness has the scope for taking root.
The moment one gives up this great quality, the evil qualities of anger, hatred and jealousy creep in, making him lose his human nature itself, driving him to indulge in wicked deeds and even descend to animal nature. Human beings should shine with human quality.
…Happiness and sorrow have to be experienced in the worldly life as they are inevitable like the sunset and sunrise. You think New Year will give better experiences. It is not correct. It is the mind that is responsible for pleasure and pain. If your mind is good you will find anything good. You are embodiments of the Divine, which is nothing but bliss. While being so, is it not a folly on your part to say that you are suffering from pain and grieve over this?
When devotees pray to Bhagavan sincerely making all their actions as offering to God, they will certainly receive appropriate grace from the Divine…Keeping God as your guide and saviour, whatever work you may do will yield sure success. God is your only true friend. All other friends may be with you as long as you have wealth, but the moment you lose everything, the friends will desert you. God is only friend who will be ever with you. He is always with you, in you and beside you. Therefore, the only way for prosperity is to develop friendship with the Lord. Being a human, you should make others happy. This is love.
Your heart is full of love. You should share it with others. When you have some edible dish, you have to eat it and serve to others. Otherwise, it gets spoiled. You must share your love with at least five persons per day. You should practise, experience and share with others this Divine Love.
On this New Year day, you should make resolve that you will start every day with love, spend the day with love, fill the day with love, and end the day with love. There should be no difference of caste, creed, colour, religion or nationality. Love knows no distinction of any kind. You must wish everyone to be happy. Fill the heart with love. Then the country and the world will prosper, and everyone will be happy.
Man’s Life Force – A sacred understanding of energy, breath, and divine purpose
Man’s Life Force is the invisible power that keeps the body active, the mind alert, and the heart connected with life. We may see the body moving, speaking, working, and serving, but behind all these actions there is a subtle energy that supports existence. Without this inner force, the body becomes only a silent form. Life is therefore not just flesh and bones; it is animated by a deeper power given by the Divine.
Man’s Life Force can be understood through breath. Every breath enters and leaves without our constant command. We sleep, yet breathing continues. We become busy, yet the heart beats. We forget God, yet life is still supported by divine grace. This should make us humble and grateful. The breath is not an ordinary function; it is a sacred reminder that life is being gifted to us moment by moment.
Many people use their energy only for worldly aims. They run after wealth, comfort, praise, pleasure, and success. These things may have some place in life, but they should not become the only purpose. Man’s Life Force is precious and should be used wisely. If it is spent in anger, jealousy, greed, gossip, and selfish desire, life becomes weak and restless. If it is used for love, truth, service, prayer, and self-discipline, life becomes meaningful.
The body needs food, rest, and care, but the life force also needs purity. Impure thoughts, harsh speech, uncontrolled desires, and negative habits disturb inner energy. A person may look strong outside but feel tired and empty inside because the mind is polluted. Pure living protects inner strength. Good thoughts, simple food, disciplined habits, noble company, and remembrance of God help preserve this sacred energy.
Man’s Life Force is closely connected with the mind. When the mind is peaceful, energy flows in a balanced way. When the mind is disturbed by fear, anger, worry, or attachment, the body also becomes affected. This is why spiritual teachings give importance to mental purity. A calm mind supports health, clarity, and devotion. A restless mind wastes strength even when the body is doing nothing.
Prayer is one of the best ways to purify and strengthen the inner life. Prayer does not need complicated words. A sincere remembrance of God, a grateful thought, a silent tear, or a humble request can bring peace to the heart. When the mind turns toward the Divine, scattered energy becomes focused. Man’s Life Force then begins to move in a higher direction, guiding the person toward patience, courage, and inner balance.
Service also gives noble direction to human energy. Hands are not meant only for personal comfort; they are meant to help. Speech is not meant only for argument; it is meant to comfort and guide. Feet are not meant only to chase desire; they are meant to walk toward good actions. When we feed the hungry, help the sick, support the weak, and speak kindly, our life force becomes an offering to God.
Control of desires is very important. Desires drain energy when they are endless and uncontrolled. One wish creates another, and the mind never feels satisfied. Contentment protects inner peace. This does not mean laziness or lack of effort. It means knowing the difference between need and greed. A contented person works sincerely, lives responsibly, and remains grateful for what God has given.
Man’s Life Force should also be protected through right speech. Words carry energy. Harsh words hurt others and disturb the speaker’s own peace. Gossip, lies, insults, and unnecessary arguments waste inner strength. Truthful, gentle, and helpful speech purifies life. A person who controls the tongue saves much energy and creates harmony around them.
Spiritual discipline gives strength to this sacred force. Waking with gratitude, eating moderately, working honestly, serving selflessly, praying daily, and sleeping with a peaceful heart are simple but powerful practices. They bring order to life. Discipline is not punishment; it is protection. It prevents energy from being wasted in wrong habits and keeps the mind steady.
Man’s Life Force finally reminds us that life is temporary. The breath that is present today may not remain forever. Therefore, every day should be used well. We should not postpone goodness, forgiveness, prayer, or service. A life spent only in selfishness becomes empty, but a life spent in love becomes sacred.
In the end, this sacred power within man is a divine gift. It should be respected, purified, and used for noble purposes. When breath is joined with prayer, work is joined with honesty, speech is joined with kindness, and action is joined with service, human life becomes blessed. The true use of life force is to rise above selfish living and move closer to God through love, purity, and devotion.
