Vilakshya Lakshmipati

॥ aṣṭamaḥ sargaḥ ॥
॥ vilakṣyalakṣmīpatiḥ ॥

atha kathamapi yāminīṃ vinīya smaraśarajarjaritāpi sā prabhātē ।
anunayavachanaṃ vadantamagrē praṇatamapi priyamāha sābhyasūyam ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: किसी प्रकार पूरी रात बिताकर, कामदेव के बाणों से अत्यंत घायल होने पर भी प्रातःकाल राधा के सामने प्रेमपूर्वक उसे मनाने वाले और उसके सामने झुके हुए प्रिय श्रीकृष्ण उपस्थित हुए। किंतु राधा ने ईर्ष्या और मान से भरे हुए स्वर में उनसे कहा।

English Meaning: Somehow having passed the night, Rādhā, though deeply wounded by the arrows of Cupid, saw her beloved Kṛṣṇa before her at dawn, humbly bowing and speaking words of reconciliation. Yet, filled with jealousy and wounded pride, she spoke to him.

॥ gītaṃ 17 ॥

rajanijanitagurujāgararāgakaṣāyitamalasanivēśam ।
vahati nayanamanurāgamiva sphuṭamuditarasābhinivēśam ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: रात्रि भर जागने से तुम्हारी आँखें लाल और थकी हुई दिखाई दे रही हैं। उनमें प्रेम का भाव स्पष्ट दिखाई दे रहा है, मानो तुम किसी विशेष आनंद और प्रेम-रस में पूरी तरह लीन रहे हो।

English Meaning: Your eyes appear reddened and languid from a long night of wakefulness. They clearly reveal the signs of passion, as though you have been completely absorbed in some special pleasure and delight.

harihari yāhi mādhava yāhi kēśava mā vada kaitavavādaṃ tāmanusara sarasīruhalōchana yā tava harati viṣādam ॥ 50 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे हरि! हे माधव! हे केशव! यहाँ से चले जाओ। मुझसे ऐसी छलपूर्ण बातें मत कहो। हे कमलनयन! उस स्त्री के पास जाओ, जो तुम्हारे विरह का दुःख दूर करती है।

English Meaning: O Hari! O Mādhava! O Keśava! Go away from here. Do not speak such deceptive words to me. O lotus-eyed one, go to that woman who removes the sorrow of your separation.

kajjalamalinavilōchanachumbanavirachitanīlimarūpam ।
daśanavasanamaruṇaṃ tava kṛṣṇa tanōti tanōranurūpam ॥ 2 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे कृष्ण! तुम्हारी आँखों के आसपास काजल जैसी फैली हुई कालिमा और चुम्बनों से बने ये नीले चिह्न तुम्हारे शरीर पर दिखाई दे रहे हैं। तुम्हारे अधरों की लालिमा भी तुम्हारे शरीर पर किसी अन्य स्त्री के प्रेम-संबंध का संकेत दे रही है।

English Meaning: O Kṛṣṇa! The dark marks around your eyes resemble smudged collyrium, while the bluish traces left by kisses are visible upon your body. The redness of your lips too seems to reveal your intimate association with another woman.

vapuranuharati tava smarasaṅgarakharanakharakṣatarēkham ।
marakataśakalakalitakaladhautalipirēva ratijayalēkham ॥ 3 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: तुम्हारे शरीर पर प्रेम-क्रीड़ा के समय नखों से बनी हुई खरोंचों की रेखाएँ स्पष्ट दिखाई दे रही हैं। वे ऐसी प्रतीत होती हैं जैसे स्वर्ण पर पन्ने के टुकड़े से प्रेम-विजय का लेख लिखा गया हो।

English Meaning: Your body bears clear lines of scratches made by nails during the battle of love. They appear like inscriptions of victory in love, written upon gold with pieces of emerald.

charaṇakamalagaladalaktakasiktamidaṃ tava hṛdayamudāram ।
darśayatīva bahirmadanadrumanavakisalayaparivāram ॥ 4 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: तुम्हारे विशाल वक्ष पर मेरे चरण-कमलों से लगा हुआ लाल आलक्तक जैसे अंकित हो गया है। उसकी लालिमा बाहर से ऐसी दिखाई देती है मानो कामदेव के वृक्ष के नए-नए पत्तों का समूह वहाँ उग आया हो।

English Meaning: The red lac from my lotus feet seems to have been transferred onto your broad chest. Its redness appears as though a cluster of fresh leaves from the tree of Cupid has blossomed there.

daśanapadaṃ bhavadadharagataṃ mama janayati chētasi khēdam ।
kathayati kathamadhunāpi mayā saha tava vapurētadabhēdam ॥ 5 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: तुम्हारे अधरों पर दिखाई देने वाले दाँतों के निशान मेरे हृदय में गहरा दुःख उत्पन्न कर रहे हैं। अब तुम कैसे कह सकते हो कि तुम्हारा शरीर मेरे साथ प्रेम में रहने के बाद भी ऐसा ही है और किसी अन्य स्त्री से तुम्हारा कोई संबंध नहीं हुआ?

English Meaning: The marks of teeth upon your lips cause deep sorrow in my heart. How can you now claim that your body remains unchanged and that you have had no such intimate association with another woman?

bahiriva malinataraṃ tava kṛṣṇa manō’pi bhaviṣyati nūnam ।
kathamatha vañchayasē janamanugatamasamaśarajvaradūnam ॥ 6 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे कृष्ण! जैसे तुम्हारा शरीर बाहर से मलिन दिखाई दे रहा है, वैसे ही निश्चय ही तुम्हारा मन भी भीतर से मलिन हो गया होगा। फिर कामदेव के असह्य ज्वर से पीड़ित होकर तुम्हारा अनुसरण करने वाले को तुम कैसे छल सकते हो?

English Meaning: O Kṛṣṇa! Just as your body appears outwardly stained, surely your mind too must have become impure within. How can you deceive one who follows you while suffering from the unbearable fever of love?

bhramati bhavānabalākavalāya vanēṣu kimatra vichitram ।
prathayati pūtanikaiva vadhūvadhanirdayabālacharitram ॥ 7 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: तुम वन-वन किसी स्त्री को अपने प्रेम-जाल में फँसाने के लिए घूमते हो—इसमें आश्चर्य ही क्या है? पूतना-वध की तुम्हारी बाल्यकाल की लीला ही तुम्हारे स्त्रियों के प्रति कठोर व्यवहार को प्रकट करती है।

English Meaning: You wander through the forests seeking to ensnare women in your love—what is surprising about that? Even your childhood deed of slaying Pūtanā reveals your harshness toward women.

śrījayadēvabhaṇitarativañchitakhaṇḍitayuvativilāpam ।
śṛṇuta sudhāmadhuraṃ vibudhā vibudhālayatō’pi durāpam ॥ 8 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: श्री जयदेव द्वारा वर्णित इस प्रेम में ठगी और विरह से पीड़ित युवती के विलाप को सुनो। हे देवगण! यह अमृत से भी मधुर है और देवताओं के निवास में भी दुर्लभ है।

English Meaning: O divine beings, listen to this lament of the young woman disappointed and wounded in love, as described by Śrī Jayadeva. It is sweeter than nectar and difficult to attain even in the abode of the gods.

tadēvaṃ paśyantyāḥ prasaradanurāgaṃ bahiriva priyāpādālaktachChuritamaruṇachChāyahṛdayam ।
mamādya prakhyātapraṇayabharabhaṅgēna kitava tvadālōkaḥ śōkādapi kimapi lajjāṃ janayati ॥ 50 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: तुम्हें इस प्रकार देखकर ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि तुम्हारा हृदय भीतर से किसी बढ़ते हुए प्रेम से भरा है और बाहर से किसी प्रिय स्त्री के चरणों के आलक्तक से लाल हुआ है। किंतु हे छलिया! हमारे प्रसिद्ध प्रेम-संबंध को इस प्रकार तोड़ देने के कारण आज तुम्हारा दर्शन मेरे भीतर दुःख के साथ-साथ एक विचित्र लज्जा भी उत्पन्न कर रहा है।

English Meaning: Seeing you in this state, your heart seems inwardly filled with growing passion, while outwardly it appears reddened as though stained by the lac from another beloved’s feet. Yet, O deceiver, by breaking our renowned bond of love in this way, your appearance today brings me not only sorrow but also a strange sense of shame.

॥ iti gītagōvindē khaṇḍitāvarṇanē vilakṣyalakṣmīpatirnāma aṣṭamaḥ sargaḥ ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: इस प्रकार श्रीगीतगोविंद में खण्डिता नायिका के वर्णन से संबंधित “विलक्ष्यलक्ष्मीपति” नामक अष्टम सर्ग पूर्ण हुआ।

English Meaning: Thus concludes the eighth canto of Śrī Gītagōvinda, entitled “Vilakṣya-Lakṣmīpatiḥ,” describing the Khaṇḍitā heroine, who is hurt and angered because her beloved has been with another woman.
