Sri Rudram Laghunyasam

ॐ अथात्मानं शिवात्मानं श्रीरुद्ररूपं ध्यायेत् ॥

Meditate upon one’s own Self as the divine Self of Śiva, in the form of Śrī Rudra.

शुद्धस्फटिकसंकाशं त्रिनेत्रं पञ्चवक्त्रकम् ।
गङ्गाधरं दशभुजं सर्वाभरणभूषितम् ॥

Meditate upon Rudra, radiant like pure crystal, with three eyes and five faces, bearing the sacred Gaṅgā upon His head, possessing ten arms, and adorned with all divine ornaments.

नीलग्रीवं शशाङ्काङ्कं नागयज्ञोपवीतिनम् ।
व्याघ्रचर्मोत्तरीयं च वरेण्यमभयप्रदम् ॥

He has a blue throat, bears the crescent moon, wears a serpent as the sacred thread, is clothed in tiger skin, is supremely worthy of worship, and grants fearlessness.

कमण्डल्वक्षसूत्राणां धारिणं शूलपाणिनम् ।
ज्वलन्तं पिङ्गलजटाशिखामुद्योतधारिणम् ॥

He carries the water-pot and sacred rosary, holds the trident in His hand, and His tawny matted locks shine with divine brilliance.

वृषस्कन्धसमारूढं उमादेहार्धधारिणम् ।
अमृतेनाप्लुतं शान्तं दिव्यभोगसमन्वितम् ॥

He is mounted upon the mighty bull, bears Umā as half of His body, is immersed in immortality, peaceful, and endowed with divine splendour.

दिग्देवतासमायुक्तं सुरासुरनमस्कृतम् ।
नित्यं च शाश्वतं शुद्धं ध्रुवमक्षरमव्ययम् ।
सर्वव्यापिनमीशानं रुद्रं वै विश्वरूपिणम् ।
एवं ध्यात्वा द्विजः सम्यक्ततो यजनमारभेत् ॥

He is accompanied by the deities of all directions and worshipped by gods and asuras. He is eternal, everlasting, pure, steadfast, imperishable and undecaying. Rudra is the all-pervading Īśāna, whose form encompasses the entire universe. Having meditated upon Him in this manner, the worshipper should properly begin the worship.

अथातो रुद्रस्नानार्चनाभिषेकविधिं व्याख्यास्यामः ।
आदित एव तीर्थे स्नात्वा, उदेत्य शुचिः प्रयतो ब्रह्मचारी शुक्लवासा देवाभिमुखः स्थित्वा, आत्मनि देवताः स्थापयेत् ॥

Now the procedure of Rudra bathing, worship and abhiṣeka will be explained. Having first bathed in a sacred tīrtha, one should emerge purified, disciplined, clad in clean white garments, face the Divine, and invoke the deities within oneself.

प्रजनने ब्रह्मा तिष्ठतु ।
पादयोर्विष्णुस्तिष्ठतु ।
हस्तयोर्हरस्तिष्ठतु ।
बाह्वोरिन्द्रस्तिष्ठतु ।
जठरेऽग्निस्तिष्ठतु ।
हृदये शिवस्तिष्ठतु ।
कण्ठे वसवस्तिष्ठन्तु ।
वक्त्रे सरस्वती तिष्ठतु ।
नासिकयोर्वायुस्तिष्ठतु ।
नयनयोश्चन्द्रादित्यौ तिष्ठेताम् ।
कर्णयोरश्विनौ तिष्ठेताम् ।
ललाटे रुद्रास्तिष्ठन्तु ।
मूर्ध्न्यादित्यास्तिष्ठन्तु ।
शिरसि महादेवस्तिष्ठतु ।
शिखायां वामदेवस्तिष्ठतु ।
पृष्ठे पिनाकी तिष्ठतु ।
पुरतः शूली तिष्ठतु ।
पार्श्वयोः शिवाशङ्करौ तिष्ठेताम् ।
सर्वतो वायुस्तिष्ठतु ।
ततो बहिः सर्वतोऽग्निर्ज्वालामालापरिवृतस्तिष्ठतु ।
सर्वेष्वङ्गेषु सर्वा देवता यथास्थानं तिष्ठन्तु ।
मां रक्षन्तु ॥

May Brahmā abide in the generative organ, Viṣṇu in the feet, Hara in the hands, Indra in the arms, Agni in the abdomen, and Śiva in the heart. May the Vasus abide in the throat and Sarasvatī in the mouth. May Vāyu abide in the nostrils. May the Sun and Moon abide in the eyes, and the Aśvinī Kumāras in the ears. May the Rudras abide in the forehead and the Ādityas in the crown of the head. May Mahādeva abide in the head and Vāmadeva in the sacred topknot. May Pinākī abide at the back and the bearer of the trident stand before me. May Śiva and Śaṅkara abide at my sides. May Vāyu surround me on all sides, and outside may Agni stand encircled by a garland of flames. May all the deities remain in their proper places throughout all my limbs and protect me.

अग्निर्मे वाचि श्रितः । वाघृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।
वायुर्मे प्राणे श्रितः । प्राणो हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।

Agni is established in my speech; speech is established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman. Vāyu is established in my vital breath; the vital breath is established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman.

सूर्यो मे चक्षुषि श्रितः । चक्षुर्हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।
चन्द्रमा मे मनसि श्रितः । मनो हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।

The Sun is established in my eyes; the eyes are established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman. The Moon is established in my mind; the mind is established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman.

दिशो मे श्रोत्रे श्रिताः । श्रोत्रं हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।
आपो मे रेतसि श्रिताः । रेतो हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।

The directions are established in my ears; the ears are established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman. The waters are established in the generative essence; that essence is established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman.

पृथिवी मे शरीरे श्रिता । शरीरं हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।
ओषधिवनस्पतयो मे लोमसु श्रिताः । लोमानि हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।

Earth is established in my body; the body is established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman. Herbs and trees are established in my bodily hairs; the hairs are established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman.

इन्द्रो मे बले श्रितः । बलं हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।
पर्जन्यो मे मूर्ध्नि श्रितः । मूर्धा हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।

Indra is established in my strength; strength is established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman. Parjanya is established in my head; the head is established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman.

ईशानो मे मन्यु श्रितः । मन्युर्हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।
आत्मा म आत्मनि श्रितः । आत्मा हृदये । हृदयमयि । अहममृते । अमृतं ब्रह्मणि ।

Īśāna is established in my inner force; that force is established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman. The Self is established in my own Self; the Self is established in the heart; the heart is established in me; I am established in immortality, and immortality is established in Brahman.

पुनर्म आत्मा पुनरायु रागात् । पुनः प्राणः पुनराकूतमागात् ।
वैश्वानरो रश्मिभिर्वावृधानः । अन्तस्तिष्ठत्वमृतस्य गोपाः ॥

May the Self return to me, and may life return to me. May the vital breath return, and may noble intention return. May Vaiśvānara, growing through His rays, remain within me as the protector of immortality.

अस्य श्रीरुद्राध्यायप्रश्नमहामन्त्रस्य, अघोर ऋषिः, अनुष्टुप्छन्दः, सङ्कर्षणमूर्तिस्वरूपो योऽसावादित्यः परमपुरुषः स एष रुद्रो देवता । नमः शिवायेति बीजम् । शिवतरायेति शक्तिः । महादेवायेति कीलकम् । श्रीसाम्बसदाशिवप्रसादसिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥

For this great mantra of the Śrī Rudrādhyāya, the seer is Aghora Ṛṣi, the metre is Anuṣṭup, and the deity is Rudra, the Supreme Person in the form of Saṅkarṣaṇa, who is identified with the Sun. “Namaḥ Śivāya” is the seed, “Śivatarāya” is the power, and “Mahādevāya” is the pin or key. This mantra is employed for attaining the grace of Śrī Sāmba Sadāśiva.

ॐ अग्निहोत्रात्मने अङ्गुष्ठाभ्यां नमः ।
दर्शपूर्णमासात्मने तर्जनीभ्यां नमः ।
चातुर्मास्यात्मने मध्यमाभ्यां नमः ।
निरूढपशुबन्धात्मने अनामिकाभ्यां नमः ।
ज्योतिष्टोमात्मने कनिष्ठिकाभ्यां नमः ।
सर्वक्रत्वात्मने करतलकरपृष्ठाभ्यां नमः ॥

Salutations to the essence of Agnihotra through the thumbs. Salutations to the essence of Darśa-Pūrṇamāsa through the index fingers. Salutations to the essence of Cāturmāsya through the middle fingers. Salutations to the essence of Nirūḍha Paśubandha through the ring fingers. Salutations to the essence of Jyotiṣṭoma through the little fingers. Salutations to the essence of all sacrifices through the palms and backs of the hands.

अग्निहोत्रात्मने हृदयाय नमः ।
दर्शपूर्णमासात्मने शिरसे स्वाहा ।
चातुर्मास्यात्मने शिखायै वषट् ।
निरूढपशुबन्धात्मने कवचाय हुं ।
ज्योतिष्टोमात्मने नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट् ।
सर्वक्रत्वात्मने अस्त्राय फट् ।
भूर्भुवस्सुवरोमिति दिग्बन्धः ॥

Salutations to the essence of Agnihotra in the heart. May the essence of Darśa-Pūrṇamāsa abide in the head. May the essence of Cāturmāsya abide in the crown. May the essence of Nirūḍha Paśubandha become the protective armour. May the essence of Jyotiṣṭoma abide in the three eyes. May the essence of all sacrifices become the divine weapon. Thus the directions are spiritually protected by the sacred utterance “Bhūr Bhuvaḥ Suvaḥ.”

ध्यानम्

आपातालनभस्थलान्तभुवनब्रह्माण्डमाविस्फुरत्-
ज्योतिःस्फाटिकलिङ्गमौलिविलसत्पूर्णेन्दुवान्तामृतैः ।
अस्तोका-plुतमेकमीशमनीशं रुद्रानुवाकाञ्जपन्
ध्यायेद्दीप्सितसिद्धये ध्रुवपदं विप्रोऽभिषिञ्चेच्छिवम् ॥

Meditating upon the One Supreme Lord whose radiant crystal-like Liṅga extends throughout the worlds from the depths below to the highest heavens, whose crown shines with the full moon and streams of immortal nectar, and reciting the Rudra mantras, the worshipper should meditate upon Śiva and perform the abhiṣeka for the attainment of the desired spiritual fulfilment and the eternal state.

ब्रह्माण्डव्याप्तदेहा भसितहिमरुचा भासमाना भुजङ्गैः
कण्ठे कालाः कपर्दाः कलितशशिकलाश्चण्डकोदण्डहस्ताः ।
त्र्यक्षाः रुद्राक्षमालाः प्रकटितविभवाः शाम्भवा मूर्तिभेदाः
रुद्राः श्रीरुद्रसूक्तप्रकटितविभवा नः प्रयच्छन्तु सौख्यम् ॥

May the various manifestations of Śambhu, whose bodies encompass the entire universe, who shine with the radiance of sacred ash and snow, who are adorned with serpents, whose throats bear the signs of divine power, whose matted locks hold the crescent moon, who hold the mighty bow, who possess three eyes and rosaries of Rudrākṣa, and whose glory is revealed through the Śrī Rudra Sūkta, grant us happiness and well-being.

ॐ गणानां त्वा गणपतिं हवामहे कविं कवीनामुपमश्रवस्तमम् ।
ज्येष्ठराजं ब्रह्मणां ब्रह्मणस्पत आ नः शृण्वन्नूतिभिः सीद सादनम् ॥
महागणपतये नमः ॥

We invoke You, O Gaṇapati, Lord of all hosts, the wise among the wise and the most renowned. O supreme Lord of prayers, hear our invocation and come to us with Your blessings. May You take Your seat in the sacred place. Salutations to Mahāgaṇapati.

शं च मे मयश्च मे प्रियं च मेऽनुकामश्च मे कामश्च मे सौमनसश्च मे भद्रं च मे श्रेयश्च मे वस्यश्च मे यशश्च मे भगश्च मे द्रविणं च मे यन्ता च मे धर्ता च मे क्षेमश्च मे धृतिश्च मे विश्वं च मे महश्च मे संविच्च मे ज्ञात्रं च मे सूश्च मे प्रसूश्च मे सीरं च मे लयश्च म ऋतं च मेऽमृतं च मेऽयक्ष्मं च मेऽनामयच्च मे जीवातुश्च मे दीर्घायुत्वं च मेऽमित्रं च मेऽभयं च मे सुगं च मे शयनं च मे सूषा च मे सुदिनं च मे ॥

May I have peace, happiness, affection, fulfilment of worthy desires, noble aspirations, a peaceful mind, auspiciousness, spiritual prosperity, honour, good fortune, wealth, guidance, stability, well-being, steadfastness, wholeness, greatness, awareness, knowledge, nourishment, growth, harmony, truth, immortality, freedom from disease, health, vitality, long life, freedom from enemies, fearlessness, an easy and comfortable path, peaceful rest, auspicious nourishment, and good days.

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥
