Mythological Significance & History

The temple holds deep mythological significance. As per legends, when Lord Shiva decided to choose one of his sons — Kartikeya or Ganesha — as the heir to divine knowledge, he challenged them to take a round of the world. While Kartikeya set off on his mount, Ganesha circled his parents, declaring them his universe. Impressed by Ganesha’s wisdom, Shiva gave him the title. Disheartened but devoted, Kartikeya sacrificed his flesh and bones to his father, signifying his loyalty and strength. This temple is believed to be the very place where Kartikeya made that offering.
