MAA SARASWATI PUJA VIDHI
This set of Saraswati worship rituals, crafted exclusively for the newly installed statue of the Goddess Saraswati, applies only to the statue’s enshrinement rite and all subsequent worship practices. The rituals follow the traditional Hindu sixteen-sacrament worship protocol. The sixteen offerings embody devout reverence for the Goddess of Wisdom. The full sequence of rituals opens with invoking the deity to take residence in the statue, and its first formal step is the presentation of flower offerings.
1. Dhyana (ध्यान)
Dhyana (ध्यान) is the first and one of the most important steps of the Saraswati Puja Vidhi. Before beginning the formal worship, devotees should calm their minds and meditate upon Goddess Saraswati with complete devotion and concentration. The purpose of Dhyana (ध्यान) is to invoke the divine presence of Maa Saraswati into the heart and prepare the mind for sacred worship. Sit comfortably in front of the already installed Bhagawati Saraswati Murti (मूर्ति) or image, close your eyes, and visualize the Goddess seated on a pure white lotus, dressed in radiant white garments, holding the Veena, sacred scriptures, a rosary, and blessing all devotees with wisdom, knowledge, and spiritual enlightenment. During this meditation, focus on her divine qualities of purity, learning, creativity, and inner peace. While meditating on Bhagawati Saraswati, chant the following Dhyana Mantra with faith and reverence.
|| Saraswati Dhyana Mantra ||
Ya Kundendu-Tushara-Hara-Dhavala,
Ya Shubhra-Vastravrita,
Ya Vina-Vara-Danda-Mandita-Kara,

Devaih Sada Vandita,
Sa Mam Patu Saraswati Bhagawati
Nihshesha-Jadyapaha॥
2. Avahana (आवाहन)
After completing Dhyana (Meditation), the next step in the Saraswati Puja Vidhi is Avahana (आवाहन), which means respectfully inviting Goddess Saraswati to be present during the worship. Through this ritual, devotees humbly request Maa Saraswati to manifest in the already installed idol (Murti) and graciously accept their prayers and offerings.
Before chanting the Avahana Mantra, make the Avahana Mudra by joining both palms together and folding both thumbs inward. Stand or sit peacefully in front of the Murti of Bhagawati Saraswati and chant the following mantra with devotion and complete faith.
