Man is God
To Hislop With Blessings
My Dear! You will find it deep within yourself. Think it many times, ponder it, it tells you about your true nature, it gives you hope, it gives you new life, it points the way, it proves to you that God is within you and you are not man, man is GOD. It shows you that it is possible for you to realize God (Swamiji) but you and you alone must ponder this work deeply, you will find that you will begin to know what is meant by the statement: “the Self” cannot be explained, the mind knows of its existence, “the Self-God” is within man, you are that Self, all else is illusion of the mind’s creation, the mind that creates, preserves, and destroys.
My Love! The great joy, the subtlety of the bliss, that you will feel, as you come closer and closer to your Real Self; if you strive to find your self by using your mind, you will strive and strive in vain. Because the mind, cannot give you the truth; a lie cannot give you the truth; a lie can only entangle you in a web of deceit, but if you sensitize yourself, awaken your true, fine, beautiful qualities.
Above you – nothing. Below you – nothing, to the right of you or to the left of you – nothing; and dissolve yourself into that nothingness, that would be the best way you could explain the realization of the Self and yet that nothingness would not be the absence of something like the nothingness. That nothingness is the fullness of everything, the power of the existence of that appears to be everything.

Man is God – A Divine Truth Of Inner Realization
Man is God is a powerful spiritual statement that reminds us of the divine nature hidden within every human being. It does not mean that the body, ego, name, status, or personality is God. It means that the true Self within man is divine, pure, eternal, and connected with the Supreme Reality. When a person forgets this truth, life becomes filled with fear, attachment, pride, and sorrow. When this truth is understood, life becomes peaceful, meaningful, and sacred.
Most people identify themselves only with the body and mind. They say, “I am this name, this profession, this family, this position.” But all these identities change with time. The body grows old, the mind changes, relationships change, and worldly situations never remain fixed. Behind all these changes, there is an unchanging presence within us. That presence is the Atma, the divine spark. This is the deeper meaning behind the teaching that Man is God.
Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba often reminded humanity that the purpose of life is to realize one’s own divinity. He did not teach people to become God through pride or imagination. He taught them to recognize the divine truth already present within. Just as clouds may cover the sun but cannot destroy it, ignorance may cover divinity but cannot remove it. Spiritual practice helps remove this ignorance.
Man is God becomes meaningful only when it is lived with humility. A person who truly understands divinity within does not become arrogant. Instead, such a person becomes more loving, peaceful, and compassionate. Ego says, “I am greater than others.” Wisdom says, “The same Divine lives in everyone.” This vision removes hatred and creates unity. When we see God in all beings, we cannot hurt others knowingly.
The divine nature of man is expressed through love. Love is not merely emotion or attachment. True love is selfless, pure, and expansive. It gives without expecting reward. It forgives without bitterness. It serves without pride. When love flows through thought, word, and action, the hidden divinity within man begins to shine. A loving heart becomes a living temple of God.
Man is God also teaches that service to others is a sacred duty. If God is present in every being, then helping others becomes worship. Feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, guiding children, respecting elders, and comforting the sad are not ordinary acts when done with love. They become offerings to the Divine present in human form. Service purifies the heart and reduces selfishness.
However, knowing this truth intellectually is not enough. A person may repeat spiritual statements many times, yet remain angry, jealous, proud, or selfish. Real realization must transform character. If one believes in the divinity of man, then speech must become gentle, actions must become pure, and intentions must become selfless. Without transformation, spiritual knowledge remains incomplete.
Man is God does not deny the need for discipline. In fact, it demands greater discipline. If the body is a temple and the heart is the seat of God, then life must be lived with purity. Thoughts should be watched carefully. Words should be spoken responsibly. Actions should be guided by truth and compassion. The divine Self is pure, and the seeker must try to reflect that purity in daily living.
The mind is the main obstacle in realizing this truth. It creates desires, fears, comparisons, and attachments. It makes a person feel separate from others and distant from God. Through prayer, meditation, selfless service, good company, and remembrance of God, the mind slowly becomes calm. When the mind becomes still, the inner light becomes easier to experience.
Man is God also gives great strength during suffering. When a person thinks only as the body, every difficulty becomes frightening. But when one remembers the divine Self within, courage arises. Problems may still come, but they do not completely break the heart. The seeker understands that life is a school, and every experience can become a lesson for growth.
This teaching also removes feelings of inferiority. Many people feel weak, unworthy, or helpless because they judge themselves only by outer success. But spiritual wisdom says that every human being carries divine potential. No one is meaningless. Every person can grow, serve, love, and realize truth. The Divine is not far away; it is hidden within the heart, waiting to be recognized.
Man is God finally points toward unity. Differences of religion, caste, language, nationality, wealth, and education belong to the outer world. The inner truth is one. When this understanding becomes strong, compassion grows naturally. We stop looking at others as strangers or enemies. We begin to see them as expressions of the same divine reality.
In the end, the highest purpose of human life is to realize and express this inner divinity. Prayer should awaken love. Knowledge should bring humility. Service should reduce ego. Devotion should purify the heart. When man lives with truth, love, peace, righteousness, and compassion, the divine nature within becomes visible. This is the real meaning of spiritual life and the sacred message behind the truth that Man is God.
