I Learnt The Biggest Lesson…
Look around optimistically and you will be ‘priced’ with precious life-lessons… Who said a poor street boy who thrives on a loaf of bread cannot be your ‘teacher’??? Dr Derrick Angelsz writes what he experienced…what he learnt when he landed in India’s own Mumbai… The article is sourced from Sri Sathya Sai Newsletter, Pune…originally from the internet.. academictips.org/blogs/ (the banner image is sourced from the internet and does not bear any link with the story)
A few days ago I landed at the Mumbai Airport and took a cab to my scheduled destination in South Mumbai.
I was enjoying the busy traffic with people rushing in every possible directon when we got stranded at a very busy intersection. As we waited for the signal to turn green, my eyes saw a poor young boy, about 12 years old. He removed a piece of bread from his pocket and took a bite.
As he was about to take his next bite, a stray dog wagged his tail looking at him. Without hesitation, he sat down and put the bread on the road for the dog to eat.
The dog sniffed the bread and walked away. The boy waited until he was sure the dog was gone then he picked up the bread and ate it! My heart cried and I wanted to walk up to the boy but before I could open the door the signal turned green and our car drove away. I kept thinking about the boy and later during my evening meal I realised that I was thinking of approaching the boy but I never did, I could have stopped the car and walked up to him which again I never did.
All I did was ‘thinking’ and this poor little boy who had only one piece of bread, without any hesitation shared it with the dog, though he himself seemed to be very hungry.
I learnt one of the biggest lessons in my life which that boy taught me without a conversation. He taught me to share with love and happiness. I am so blessed to have learnt this beautiful lesson from my ‘little unknown master’. It is my moral duty to share this incident with all my friends across the globe and be blessed with happiness.

I Learnt the Biggest Lesson from His Divine Love
Life often teaches lessons through experiences, struggles, and unexpected situations. Some lessons stay with us for a short time, while others transform our entire outlook on life. For me, I Learnt The Biggest Lesson… through the divine grace and teachings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. His words were simple, yet they carried profound wisdom capable of changing hearts and guiding souls toward truth.
In the journey of life, people often chase success, recognition, and material comforts. While these may provide temporary happiness, they cannot offer lasting peace. Sri Sathya Sai Baba repeatedly reminded humanity that true joy comes from within. He taught that love is the foundation of all spiritual growth and that selfless service is the highest form of worship. Reflecting upon His teachings, I Learnt The Biggest Lesson… that genuine happiness is found not in what we receive, but in what we give.
Many times, challenges appear as obstacles that test our patience and faith. During such moments, Baba’s message encourages us to remain calm and trust the divine plan. He emphasized that every experience has a purpose and that difficulties often become stepping stones toward spiritual evolution. When viewed through this lens, even painful situations become opportunities to grow stronger in faith and character.
Another invaluable teaching from Baba is the importance of seeing the Divine in everyone. He often said that service to man is service to God. This simple yet powerful truth inspires devotees to help others without expecting recognition or reward. Whether offering a kind word, supporting someone in need, or performing acts of charity, every act of selfless love becomes an offering to the Divine. Through this understanding, I Learnt The Biggest Lesson… that love expressed through action is more meaningful than words alone.
The spiritual path is not always easy, but Baba’s life serves as a shining example of compassion, humility, and unconditional love. His teachings encourage individuals to look inward, purify their thoughts, and develop noble qualities. As devotees practice these principles, they begin to experience greater peace, contentment, and harmony in their daily lives.
The sacred mission of Devotional India continues to inspire seekers by sharing spiritual wisdom and divine experiences that strengthen faith. Through stories of devotion, service, and transformation, countless hearts are reminded of the timeless values taught by Sri Sathya Sai Baba. These teachings remain relevant in every age because they address the deepest needs of the human spirit.
As I reflect upon my spiritual journey, I realize that the greatest treasures are not material possessions but the virtues we cultivate within. Faith, love, compassion, and selfless service create a life filled with purpose and meaning. Indeed, I Learnt The Biggest Lesson… that God’s love is always present, guiding and protecting those who remember Him with sincerity.
May we continue to walk the path illuminated by Sri Sathya Sai Baba and embrace His message of universal love. Through devotion, service, and unwavering faith, every individual can discover inner peace and spiritual fulfillment. The spiritual inspiration shared by Devotional India serves as a gentle reminder that the divine presence is always near, waiting to guide us toward a life of truth, righteousness, peace, love, and non-violence.
