God Consciousness
Human sojourn on Earth is meant to realise the innate Divinity, and man can attain it by aligning every thought, word and action to that of God’s, the Divine Will, says Bhagawan in an inner message to Lucas Ralli. Extracted from the book ‘Sai Messages For You & Me’ series by the same author.
Man has plumbed the depths in an effort to satisfy his earthly desires. But there is no end to that search, and it merely leads him along an endless road towards nowhere. The further he goes, the more he experiences those desires until he finds himself on the edge of an abyss.
But, eventually, a tiny ray of light appears, an invitation from the Divinity to look elsewhere for a solution to the cravings of the apparently uncontrollable mind. The light comes from within, for it is within man that Divinity resides. Man is himself, Divine.
Look within for the solution to all your problems; there is no solution in the outside world. The world is simply a playground where you play out the game of life, the game of God.
How can you realise your own innate Divinity? By blending your whole life, and every thought and action with The Will of The Lord. It is that constant dialogue with the Lord that will help you to concentrate your mind on the Divine and divert your attention from the vicissitudes of the world and all that goes on in that world.
Live in the world, yes, but do not become part of it.
Once you turn to God, your life becomes one of attunement with the Divine, and you see everything in a different light. Even your enemies can be seen for what they really are, aspects of the Divine, for that Divinity exists within all mankind.
As you turn towards the Divine, everything in life takes on a new dimension. Problems of the past can be seen for what they are, passing clouds travelling across the sky, obscuring the light for a short time. Those problems are purely temporal, but the light is always there, the shining light of the universe. It is the light of God that is the very source of all creation.
The Lord said, “Let there be light”, and there was light. Let that light shine through you so that you yourself become a beacon of light and rise to the highest level of consciousness where you and God are one. That is God-Consciousness.
God Consciousness – A Divine Path To Awareness, Love, And Inner Peace
God Consciousness is the sacred awareness that the Divine is not far away, but present within us, around us, and in every moment of life. It is not merely a religious idea or a belief held in the mind. It is a living experience that slowly awakens when the heart becomes pure, the mind becomes calm, and life is guided by truth, love, and service.
Most people live with body-consciousness. They think mainly about name, form, status, comfort, success, and personal desires. This creates attachment, fear, pride, and restlessness. Spiritual life begins when a person starts asking deeper questions: Who am I? What is the purpose of life? How can I live in a way that pleases the Divine?
God Consciousness teaches that human life becomes meaningful when every thought, word, and action is connected with sacred awareness. A person may work, study, care for family, and live in society, yet remain inwardly connected to God. Spirituality does not require running away from duty. It requires performing duty with purity, humility, and love.
Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba often reminded devotees that man is not merely the body, but the embodiment of divinity. This teaching gives great strength. When we remember our divine nature, we become less controlled by fear and selfishness. We begin to live with greater dignity, discipline, compassion, and responsibility.
God Consciousness becomes meaningful when it changes daily behavior. If we speak about God but continue to hurt others, lie, gossip, or act with ego, then awareness has not entered the heart. True spiritual awareness should make our speech gentle, our thoughts clean, our actions helpful, and our relationships more loving.
Prayer is a powerful way to awaken this sacred awareness. A sincere prayer opens the heart and reminds the mind that it is not alone. Prayer may not always change the outer situation immediately, but it changes the inner condition. It brings courage, patience, clarity, and peace. A prayerful heart becomes more receptive to grace.
Namasmarana and bhajan also help the mind remain close to the Divine. Repeating the name of God purifies thought and reduces restlessness. Singing with devotion softens the heart and fills life with sacred feeling. When the divine name becomes dear to the heart, ordinary moments become filled with quiet strength.
God Consciousness also reminds us that service is a direct path to spiritual growth. When we serve the hungry, help the sick, comfort the sad, guide children, or support someone in difficulty, we are serving the Divine in that form. Selfless service removes ego and expands love beyond the narrow circle of personal comfort.
Meditation helps the seeker turn inward. In silence, we begin to observe the mind and understand its movements. We see anger, desire, jealousy, fear, and pride more clearly. This awareness should not discourage us. It should inspire purification. When the mind is watched with patience and corrected with love, inner peace begins to grow.
God Consciousness finally teaches that the Divine should be remembered not only in temples, prayers, or special occasions, but in every part of life. Eating can become an offering. Work can become worship. Speech can become service. Family life can become a field of love. Even difficulties can become lessons that bring the soul closer to wisdom.
A person living with this awareness becomes balanced. Praise does not create excessive pride, and criticism does not destroy peace. Success is accepted with gratitude, and failure is accepted with learning. Such a person does not depend completely on outer events for happiness, because inner connection with God becomes the true support.
This sacred awareness also creates unity. When we see the same Divine in all beings, hatred becomes weaker and compassion becomes stronger. We stop judging only by outer differences of religion, language, wealth, or position. The heart begins to understand that all are children of the same Supreme Reality.
In the end, God Consciousness is the awakening of divine remembrance in every breath and every action. It is the movement from ego to surrender, from fear to faith, from selfishness to service, and from restlessness to peace. When the heart lives in this awareness, life becomes sacred, purposeful, and blessed with divine grace.
