Swamy said, “Children are the crops growing in the fields, to yield the harvest on which the nation has to sustain itself. They are the pillars on which the future of the nation is built. They are the roots of the national tree, which has to give the fruits of Work, Worship and Wisdom to the next generations.” (10-07-1974).Following the promptings of Bhagavan, the mothers gradually changed their attitudes from ‘my children ‘ to ‘our children ‘ treading the path shown by Bhagavan in the journey of ‘From I to We’ and started Bal Vikas Classes in the villages and in the neighbourhood and started seeing mankind beyond the narrow corridors of home, caste, colour, creed and religion. It was in 1974 that Bhagavan gave a new identity to the teachers of Bal Vikas as ‘Gurus’ . It was the beginning of the expansion of Bal Vikas. Devotees took up the clarion call of Bhagavan and in one year by 1975, the number of Trained Gurus rose to 3,500 and little over 50,000 children were encouraged to join Bal Vikas. It was also decided to make Easwaramma Day Celebrations as an integral part of the Bal Vikas Programme. In the early 1970s a Bal Vikas programme was begun in the United Kingdom. In 1977, Swami’s devotees started Bal Vikas in United States of America. The Bal Vikas programme began to spread rapidly to other countries all over the world.. and in 1981, a conference for the overseas teachers was held in Prasanthi Nilayam. It was in this conference, the concept of Education in Human Values was introduced. In 1983, the 15th anniversary of Bal Vikas was held in Prasanthi Nilayam. In 1995 at the Sixth World Conference, in order to emphasise the Universality of the Bal Vikas Programme, it was decided to change the name to Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) in countries outside of India. Bal Vikas classes are designed for children whose parents are primarily devotees of Bhagavan. The core content relates to the Five Universal Human Values of Truth, Right Action, Peace, Love and Non-Violence. In the early 1980s a modification of the Bal Vikas programme was developed for children whose parents were not devotees of Baba. It was given the name Sathya Sai Education in Human Values . It promotes Character development and seeks to instill in the students, a respect and reverence for nature and for the rights of others.
Sathya Sai Baba Concepts of Bal Vikas Expansion – Divine Wisdom For Positive Learning
Shri Sathya Sai Concepts of Bal Vikas Expansion is a sacred theme that shows how value-based education can grow from a small circle of children into a wider movement of love, discipline, devotion, and character building. Bal Vikas means the blossoming of the child, and its expansion means spreading noble values into homes, schools, communities, and society.
Shri Sathya Sai Concepts of Bal Vikas Expansion teaches that children are not only future citizens, but divine seeds filled with hidden goodness. If they receive love, guidance, prayer, discipline, and good examples, their inner qualities blossom beautifully. A child trained in values becomes a source of peace at home, kindness in school, and strength in society.
The foundation of Bal Vikas is based on the five human values: truth, right conduct, peace, love, and non-violence. These values are simple, but they can transform the whole personality. Truth gives courage, right conduct gives discipline, peace gives balance, love gives sweetness, and non-violence gives compassion. When these values expand through children, the future becomes brighter.
Shri Sathya Sai Concepts of Bal Vikas Expansion also reminds us that true education is not limited to books, marks, exams, or career success. Education must help children become good human beings. A child should learn how to speak truth, respect parents, help others, control anger, pray sincerely, and live with humility. Knowledge becomes complete only when it is joined with character.
Parents and teachers play a very important role in this expansion. Children learn more from example than from advice. If adults live with honesty, prayer, kindness, service, and self-control, children naturally absorb those qualities. But if adults only speak about values and do not practice them, children become confused. A living example is the strongest lesson.
Shri Sathya Sai Concepts of Bal Vikas Expansion gives importance to prayer, bhajan, silent sitting, moral stories, and service activities. Prayer teaches gratitude and faith. Bhajan fills the heart with devotion. Silent sitting improves concentration and calmness. Moral stories make values easy to understand. Service teaches children that life is not only about receiving, but also about giving.
Bal Vikas expansion begins in the heart of one child, but it does not stop there. When a child becomes truthful, peaceful, respectful, and loving, that child influences family members and friends. A kind word, a helpful action, and a disciplined habit can silently inspire others. In this way, one pure heart can spread goodness around it.
Shri Sathya Sai Concepts of Bal Vikas Expansion also teaches respect for all religions and cultures. Bhagwan Shri Sathya Sai Baba always emphasized unity of faiths. Children should understand that God may be called by many names, but divine truth is one. This teaching removes narrow thinking and helps children grow with love, harmony, and respect for everyone.
Service is a powerful part of Bal Vikas. Children should be encouraged to help classmates, respect workers, care for plants, feed birds, keep surroundings clean, and speak kindly to those who are sad. These small acts may look simple, but they awaken compassion. A child who learns service early becomes a responsible and loving person.
Discipline is also necessary for healthy growth. Discipline should not be taught through fear, but through love and understanding. Children can learn to wake up on time, complete duties, use time wisely, speak politely, avoid waste, and keep their surroundings clean. Such habits build confidence, self-control, and responsibility.
The expansion of Bal Vikas is not only for children; it also transforms adults. Parents become more careful about their conduct. Teachers become more loving and patient. Homes become more peaceful. Communities become more service-minded. When values spread, society becomes stronger from within.
Shri Sathya Sai Concepts of Bal Vikas Expansion finally reminds us that every child carries divine potential. The duty of parents, teachers, and society is to help that divinity blossom. Children should not be shaped only for competition and success, but for compassion, wisdom, humility, and service. A successful child may shine in the world, but a value-filled child blesses the world.
The true aim of Bal Vikas is to create noble souls who live with love, truth, devotion, and responsibility. When children grow with these values, they become lamps of peace wherever they go. Their thoughts become pure, their words become gentle, and their actions become helpful.
A sacred future is built through value-based children. When Bal Vikas expands, love expands, service expands, unity expands, and divine awareness expands. This is the real beauty of spiritual education. Through sincere effort, good example, and Sai’s grace, children can become instruments of peace and blessings for the whole world.
