Why we exist?
Human life is noble, sacred and precious. The way to realize this truth is to feel that you are a part of the Divine. Only human beings are endowed with the faculty to experience this truth. It is, therefore, the duty of every human being to strive for the realization of this truth.
The human body is constituted by the Pancha Bhuthas (five elements), Pancha Koshas (five sheaths) – Annamaya (food), Praanamaya (Life-force), Manomaya (mental), Vijnaanamaya (intelligence) and Aanandamaya (the sheath of Bliss). While other living beings have only the first three sheaths, the human species alone has all the five.
Man is encompassed by attachment to worldly desires, which produce delusions of various kinds related to the three attributes (gunas – Sathva, Rajas and Thamas). To attain liberation man has to rid himself of these desires. The mind is the cause of both bondage and liberation. It is only by controlling the mind that man can achieve liberation.
Everyone is proud about the body, the mind and the intellect, forgetting the indwelling Aathma (spirit), which is the basis for all of them. The Aathma has no birth or death. It is the root of a tree, which sustains the branches, the leaves, flowers and fruits. It is the basis on which the superstructure of life rests.
The Vedas (ancient Indian Scriptures) have declared that man can attain immortality by thyaaga (renunciation) and not by any other means, be it actions, wealth or progeny. What is it that has to be renounced? One has to renounce one’s bad qualities. Men today are only human in form, but are filled with beastly qualities. To manifest their inherent divine nature, men have to cultivate love of God, fear of sin and adhere to sanghaneethi (social morality).
When people have fear of sin and love for God, they will not indulge in immoral acts. Thereby morality in society will automatically be ensured. It is meaningless to be born as a human being and lead an animal existence. God can be known only by experience and not by experiments. And for this, spiritual practice is necessary.
Each has to share his love with others. Failure to share one’s love is gross ingratitude to society, to which one owes everything. One should give one’s love freely to others and receive love in return. This is the deep significance of human life.
Why we exist? – divine wisdom for positive living
Why we exist is one of the deepest questions in human life. Every person comes into this world with a body, mind, heart, and soul, but many live without understanding the true purpose behind this precious birth. Some believe life is only for earning, enjoying, struggling, and surviving. But spiritual wisdom tells us that human life has a much higher meaning. We are here to grow in love, learn truth, serve others, and realize the divine presence within.
Why we exist cannot be understood only through outer success. A person may collect wealth, name, comfort, and power, yet still feel empty inside. This happens because the soul is not satisfied by temporary things alone. The soul longs for peace, purity, devotion, and union with God. When life is used only for selfish desires, the heart remains restless. But when life is guided by love and wisdom, every moment becomes meaningful.
Human birth is a sacred opportunity. Among all forms of life, human beings have the power to think, choose, understand, and transform. We can rise above anger, greed, jealousy, pride, and fear. We can choose kindness instead of cruelty, truth instead of falsehood, and service instead of selfishness. This power of choice is a divine gift. It shows that we are not born merely to live mechanically, but to awaken consciously.
Why we exist becomes clear when we look within. The world teaches us to look outside for happiness, but real peace begins inside the heart. When the mind is filled with desires, comparison, and worry, life feels heavy. When the heart becomes pure, life becomes peaceful. The purpose of life is not to escape responsibilities, but to perform them with love, honesty, and surrender to God.
Every experience in life has a lesson. Joy teaches gratitude. Pain teaches strength. Failure teaches humility. Success teaches responsibility. Separation teaches detachment. Service teaches compassion. Nothing is useless when seen with spiritual vision. Even difficult moments can help the soul grow if we accept them with patience and learn from them sincerely.
Why we exist is also connected with love. Love is the true language of the soul. Without love, life becomes dry and lonely. Pure love does not mean attachment or selfish expectation. It means caring for others, forgiving mistakes, speaking gently, and seeing the divine spark in every being. When love expands beyond “me” and “mine,” the heart begins to experience fullness.
Many people think that spirituality means leaving the world, but true spirituality means living rightly in the world. We must work, care for family, fulfill duties, and face challenges, but we should not forget the higher purpose. Work becomes worship when done with honesty. Family life becomes sacred when filled with respect. Service becomes prayer when done without ego. In this way, ordinary life becomes a path to the Divine.
Why we exist reminds us that the body is temporary, but the soul is eternal. The body changes from childhood to youth and old age, but the inner witness remains. This truth gives courage during sorrow and balance during success. When we remember that we are more than the body and mind, we stop living only for temporary pleasures and begin living for lasting peace.
The world often measures life by achievement, but God measures life by purity of heart. How much love did we share? How much truth did we practice? How much ego did we reduce? How much pain did we remove from others? These questions reveal the real value of life. A simple person with a loving heart is richer than a proud person with many possessions.
Why we exist is not answered by words alone. It is answered through the way we live. If our thoughts are pure, our words are kind, and our actions are helpful, then life itself becomes the answer. Every day gives us a chance to become better than yesterday. Every relationship gives us a chance to practice patience. Every challenge gives us a chance to strengthen faith.
The true purpose of human life is self-realization. This means knowing our real nature beyond ego, fear, and ignorance. We are not weak beings created only to suffer. We are sparks of the Divine, carrying love, wisdom, and peace within us. When we forget this truth, we feel lost. When we remember it, life becomes blessed.
Why we exist finally teaches that life is a sacred journey from ignorance to wisdom, from selfishness to service, and from restlessness to peace. We are here to purify the heart, control the mind, love all beings, and move closer to God. When this understanding becomes strong, life no longer feels meaningless. Every breath becomes a blessing, every duty becomes worship, and every moment becomes a step toward divine fulfillment.
