Spring became the clarified butter used in the sacrifice, summer became the fuel, and autumn became the offering. Seven were the enclosing logs, and twenty-one were the sacred kindling sticks prepared. While performing this divine sacrifice, the gods bound the Cosmic Being as the sacrificial offering and consecrated that primordial Puruṣa upon the sacred altar.

Through that sacrifice the gods worshipped, along with the Sādhyas and ancient sages. From that universal sacrifice came the mixture of curd and clarified butter. From it arose the animals of the air, the forests, and human settlements. From that same complete sacrifice emerged the Ṛg Veda hymns, the Sāma Veda chants, the sacred metres, and the Yajur Veda.

From that sacrifice were born horses and all creatures having two rows of teeth. From it came the cows, goats, and sheep. When the Cosmic Person was divided, the sages contemplated: into how many forms was He arranged? What became His mouth? What became His arms? What became His thighs and feet? His mouth became the Brāhmaṇa, and His arms became the Kṣatriya.

His thighs became the Vaiśya, and from His feet the Śūdra was born. The Moon arose from His mind, and the Sun emerged from His eyes. From His mouth came Indra and Agni, and from His life-force came Vāyu. From His navel arose the space between heaven and earth. From His head came the heavens, from His feet came the Earth, and from His ears came the directions. Thus the gods arranged and created the various worlds.

I have realized that Supreme Puruṣa, the Great Being, who shines like the Sun and exists beyond all darkness. The wise Lord created all forms, gave them names, and remains present within everything. The Creator revealed Him first, and Indra, the enlightened one, understood Him in all directions. One who knows this Supreme Reality attains immortality; there is no other path to liberation. Through sacrifice, the gods worshipped the Supreme Sacrifice. These became the first principles of Dharma, and those who followed them attained the highest heaven where the ancient divine beings reside.

I know that Great Puruṣa, radiant like the Sun and beyond all darkness. Whoever knows Him in this way becomes immortal in this very life. There is no other path leading to this supreme state. Prajāpati, the Lord of creation, exists within the womb of all beings. Though unborn Himself, He manifests in countless forms.

The Supreme Lord is the supporter of all creation. Though carrying the entire universe, He remains beyond all burden. The One Divine Reality exists within all beings in many forms.
When He withdraws the cosmic burden, He places creation back into its source and returns to His own transcendental state. He is called both death and immortality, because He is the source from which both dissolution and eternal existence arise.
He is known as the protector and sustainer of all. Though everything is supported by Him, He Himself remains ever complete and independent. Whoever knows Him as the true supporter through truth and wisdom realizes the highest reality.
He appears as the newly born and also exists beyond birth. He removes the limitations of temporary existence and does not abandon the eternal essence that remains forever.
