The World
After the transcendental Experience, Swami Sivananda found the drishya jagat (the world perceived through the senses) as a long-drawn dream. Its reality was, for him, as ephemeral as that of a dream. Yet he did not hate the world, nor has he undervalued its importance. He had always treated the world as a training ground, and as an opportunity for evolution of the individual soul. Here are some of his teachings on this subject:
This world is a vast school of experience. World is the best teacher for those who want to be benefited. Learn and gain.
World is an arena of developing various sattvic qualities.
The world is only a temporary resting-place for you. It is like a public inn. You are here to learn some lessons, which can help you in your spiritual progress. This world is only a halting place. Persevere in your sadhana. Lead a life of selfless service, renunciation, dispassion and meditation.
The World – Spiritual Perspective & Wisdom
Human life becomes meaningful when it is guided by kindness, understanding, and a sense of responsibility toward others. Every person is connected through shared experiences, emotions, and hopes. When people recognize this invisible bond, they naturally become more compassionate and willing to support one another. A heart filled with love has the power to remove barriers created by differences in language, culture, or beliefs.
True happiness is not found in material possessions alone. Wealth, success, and comfort may provide temporary satisfaction, but lasting peace arises from inner contentment. A calm mind and a pure heart enable individuals to face life’s challenges with courage and patience. Spiritual wisdom teaches that every action performed with selflessness brings positive energy and inspires those around us.
Respect for nature is another important aspect of a balanced life. Rivers, mountains, forests, animals, and plants all contribute to the harmony of creation. Caring for the environment is not merely a duty but an expression of gratitude for the countless blessings received every day. Even small efforts, such as planting trees, conserving water, and reducing waste, create meaningful change for future generations.
Every culture and spiritual tradition emphasizes the importance of truth, compassion, and service. Although practices may differ, the core message remains the same: live with integrity, help those in need, and cultivate love without expecting anything in return. When these timeless values become part of daily life, relationships grow stronger, and communities flourish in peace.
Service performed with humility is one of the highest forms of worship. Helping someone in distress, offering kind words, or sharing knowledge can brighten another person’s life. Genuine service requires no recognition or reward. Its greatest gift is the joy experienced by both the giver and the receiver. Such acts strengthen character and remind people that every individual deserves dignity and respect.
Faith also plays an essential role in overcoming difficulties. Challenges are inevitable, but they often become opportunities for growth and self-discovery. A person who trusts in divine guidance develops resilience and learns to remain calm even during uncertain times. Prayer, meditation, and self-reflection provide strength to move forward with confidence and hope.
Education should nurture not only intelligence but also moral values. Knowledge without compassion may lead to pride, while wisdom combined with humility creates responsible individuals. Parents, teachers, and spiritual guides have the noble responsibility of shaping future generations with honesty, discipline, and kindness. These qualities build strong families and harmonious societies.
A peaceful future depends on the willingness of every individual to live with love and understanding. Instead of focusing on differences, people should celebrate shared humanity and work together for the common good. Unity is not achieved through force but through mutual respect and compassion. When hearts are filled with selfless love, harmony naturally spreads across every community, bringing joy, stability, and lasting peace to all.
