1.ॐ भुद्रं कर्णेभिः शृणुयाम॑ देवाः ।
Om bhadram karnēbhiḥ śrnuyāma dēvāh….
Every Vedic Suktam has six key aspects and an objective with which it is chanted. The first is the Rishi or seer who gave the Suktam to the world. The second is the Chandas (metre); the third is the Devata (presiding deity), fourth is the Beejam (seed word); fifth is Shakthi (power) and sixth is Keelakam (kingpin).
Om atha sūryātharvāngirasaṁ vyakhyāsyāmaḥ. Brahmā rsih. Gayatri chandah. Adityō dēvatā. Hamsah sō’hamagninārāyanayukttam bījam. Hrllekhā śakttih Viyadādisargasamyukttam kilakam. Caturvidhapuruṣārtha siddhyarthë viniyōgaḥ
Now we shall expound the Mantras (hymns) of Atharva Veda in relation to Surya (Sun). The Rishi (sage) is Brahma; the Chandas (metre) is Gayatri; Devata is Aditya (Surya); Beejas (seed words) are Hamsa, Soham, Agni and Narayana. Shakthi is Hrillekha (light and illumination). Keelakam is sky and heaven. The objective is to attain the four goals of human life – Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha.
According to Bhagawan Baba:
Among the four goals of human life; Artha and Kama (Wealth and desire) are like a train while Dharma and Moksha (Righteousness and liberation) are like the rails. If the train has to run successfully, it should firmly stay on the rails all the time. Similarly human pursuit of wealth and desires should be based on righteousness and with the goal of liberation in mind. One has to enjoy wealth and pleasures of the world with a spiritual outlook; a purely materialistic approach to life will lead one to misery.

Whoever realises that Supreme Lord Suryanarayana, the impeller of time and the One who rides a chariot with seven horses, and the One seated in the red lotus having six petals and each petal having the six Beejaksharas inscribed (representative of the six sounds) is verily the wise one (Brahmana). (This is an allusion to the Suryanarayana Chakram which an aspirant meditates upon). This golden hued Suryanarayana having four hands has two lotuses in two hands and the third hand raised in Abhayahasta (raised above in blessing) and the fourth hand (facing below) bestowing boons on beings.

We meditate on the supreme light of that effulgent creator of the three worlds. May He inspire our intellect to attain the Truth. (Lord Surya is also known as Pratyaksha Devata – since the Sun God is visible to the naked eye). Surya (the Sun) is the soul of everything in this world. He is the source of all sacrifices and rain which help produce food and sustain all beings. Hence, Lord Surya is the source of all sustenance in this world.

Our Salutations to Lord Aditya (Sun). You are the One and only doer of all actions. You are in reality – Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra. You verily indeed are Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva (Four Vedas) and also the Chandas (metre). The five elements (Earth, water, fire, air and sky) emerge from You as also the directions.

All the gods and Vedas emerge from Aditya (Sun). Aditya who is the Supreme Brahman illumines this earth. Aditya Himself is the Anthahkarana (inner instruments) mind, intellect, consciousness and ego. Aditya Himself is the five life breaths (Prana, Apana, Vyana, Udana and Samana) and the five senses of perception (vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch) the Pancha Pranas and Pancha Indriyas.

Aditya Himself has become the five organs of action. He is verily the words, the pauses between the words and the flow of the chant; He is verily the bliss that arises out of the chant. He pervades the Anandamaya Kosha (sheath of bliss) and Vijnyanamaya Kosha (sheath of intellect). Salutations to the Lord Sun who is the effulgent cause of the world with all its beings; may You save us from death.

O Lord, You are the source of all life, the protector and the ultimate destination of all beings. This very Lord Savitha is present in me as my Vision (eyes). May He grant us the right vision. May we realise Lord Surya by meditating on His thousand-rayed effulgence. May He inspire our intellect to attain the Truth

Lord Savitha (The Sun surrounds us on all sides. May He grant us a long life. ‘Suryashtakshara Mantra’ – the eight syllabled hymn (in Sanskrit) is a combination of the following: a) One syllable – Om; b) Two syllables – Ghrini; c) Two syllables – Surya; and d) The three syllabled – Aditya. The complete Mantra is “Om Ghrini Surya Aditya”
Bhagawan Baba says, “I am below you, above you, in you, around you and everywhere. Why fear when I am here!” As long as one feels separate from God (Dwaitha Bhava); one can develop courage in believing the Truth that God is omnipresent (everywhere).

One who incessantly chants the above eight syllabled Mantra becomes a Brahmana (the wise one). He who chants this hymn facing the Sun will be liberated from the fear of grave diseases and his poverty will be destroyed. He is absolved from the sins of eating undesirable food, going to undesirable places, speaking to undesirable persons and speaking untruth.
ब्राह्मणो व्यते । म्या- ति ।
According to Bhagawan Baba, one should not indulge in ‘Mamsabhakshana’ (eating non- vegetarian food), ‘Madyapana’ (drinking liquor) and ‘Dhoomapana’ (smoking). Swami further says that one should also not keep bad company.
What is bad company?
As per Bhagawan, all those people and places that take you nearer to God are good company; and those which take you away from God, are bad company.

One who chants this Mantra at noon will be Papas). This Mantra should not be taught to an absolved of the five great sins (Panchamaha unworthy person. One who chants this hymn at dawn will become rich (by attaining cattle) and will become a master of the Vedas. One who chants this Mantra three times a day (Dawn, noon and dusk) attains the rewards of performing a hundred Yajnas and will conquer death.
Who is an unworthy person?
Bhagawan Baba explains this by saying, “An unworthy person is one who has no ‘Shraddha’ sincerity of purpose.”
What should an aspirant learn or desire to know?
Bhagawan reaffirms the Upanishadic saying: “Yasmin Vignyate sarvam Idam Vignyanatam Bhavathi” meaning Know that, by knowing which, you will know everything. That true Knowledge is nothing but experience or realisation of Divinity.
And, how can one conquer death?
Swami says, “One becomes immortal or conquers death by merging in the Divine.” (There will be no cycle of birth and death thereafter)
