Mythological Significance & History

Originally, this was the Kizhakkekara Siva Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
According to legend, a divine incident occurred when a carpenter (believed to be Perumthachan, a legendary master architect) carved a Ganesha idol out of a jackfruit tree log, and the idol manifested divine power.
The priests and locals installed the idol in the same complex, and over time, Lord Ganesha became the main deity of the temple, worshipped as Sree Maha Ganapathy.
It is now one of the most famous Ganapathy temples in Kerala

The offering of Unniyappam—a sweet rice flour snack—is especially significant and considered the preferred nivedhyam to Ganesha here
Devotees particularly visit for peaceful worship, and the temple is noted for its calm, serene atmosphere and pilgrim-friendly amenities
