Mythological Significance & History

The temple’s story begins in 1976 when Sadashiv Nagesh Kambli, a truck driver, dreamt that Lord Ganesha was buried at a specific spot near the seashore. Believing the dream, he began excavating—and to everyone’s surprise, unearthed a massive two‑armed (Dwibhuja) Ganesha idol carved in rock.
The idol stands at about 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide, in a serene seated posture. A carved mouse (Ganesha’s vahana) was discovered later and installed facing the deity.
Though modern in discovery, the idol is believed—per local tradition—to date back to the Pandava era, adding ancient mystique.
