Khajrana Ganesha Temple

The Khajrana Ganesh Temple in Indore, built in 1735 by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, is a sacred shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Originally a small hut, it now stands as a grand temple, famous for its diamond-eyed idol and belief that prayers here fulfill wishes.

It is one of the most visited temples in Indore, especially on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Mythological Significance & History

The idol of Lord Ganesha was once hidden in a well to protect it from Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
A local priest, Pandit Mangal Bhatt, discovered its location in a divine dream.
Queen Ahilyabai Holkar retrieved the idol and established the temple, turning a simple shrine into a place of immense faith.

Significance of the Temple

It is strongly believed that wishes come true when prayed for at this temple.
Devotees visit especially on Wednesdays and Sundays to seek blessings.
People tie threads or bangles in the temple premises as a symbol of their prayers.

Architecture of the Temple

The sanctum (Garbhagriha) has silver-plated doors and walls, decorated with intricate carvings.

The idol of Lord Ganesha is unique with diamond-studded eyes, donated by a local businessman.

The idol, around 25 feet tall, is made from a sacred mix of limestone, jaggery, bricks, and holy soil and water from pilgrimage sites.

The temple complex also has shrines of Shiva, Hanuman, Durga, and a wish-fulfilling Peepal tree.
