Ranakpur Temple

Ranakpur village, in the serene Aravalli Hills of Pali district, Rajasthan, this renowned Shvetambara Jain temple is dedicated to Lord Adinatha (Rishabhanatha).

It forms part of the Gorwad Panch Tirth, one of five sacred pilgrimage sites in Jainism.

Mythological Significance & History

Construction began around 1437 CE, initiated by Jain merchant Dharna Shah after a divine vision, with royal support from Rana Kumbha of Mewar.

The renowned architect Deepaka (Dwepa) and Acharya Soma Sundar Suri supervised construction, which continued for about 50 years and concluded around 1458 CE .

Significance of the Temple

One of the five most sacred Jain pilgrimages for Svetambara Jains.

Dedicated to Tirthankara Adinatha, it also honors Mahavira, Suparshvanatha, and Neminatha with additional shrines .

Represents victory over ignorance and spiritual devotion—devotees seek blessings, peace, and fulfillment.

Architecture of the Temple

Built in Māru‑Gurjara style, the temple is fully made of white marble, covering around 48,000 sq ft.

Features 1,444 intricately carved pillars, each unique—forming 29 halls, 80 domes, and multiple mandapas (courtyards) and shrines.

The Chaturmukha (four-faced) main temple houses the adorned idol of Adinatha facing all four directions.
