Here, Devi is worshipped as Nagapooshani (the Serpent-Adorned Goddess) and Lord Shiva as Rakshaseshwar (or Nayinaar Shiva).

Architecture of the Temple

The temple showcases Dravidian-style architecture, rebuilt beautifully after damage during the Sri Lankan civil war. Highlights include:
- A towering gopuram (entrance tower) with detailed carvings.
- A large mandapam (hall) housing the deities.
- The shrine of Nagapooshani Amman adorned with serpentine ornaments and red sarees.
- Several serpent motifs and naga idols throughout the premises.
The temple sits near the turquoise Indian Ocean, giving it a breathtaking sacred coastal ambiance.
