Shri Mangal Chandika Temple Shakti Peetha

The Mangal Chandika Shaktipeeth is considered highly sacred among devotees of Goddess Shakti. According to the ancient texts, the right wrist (दक्षिण मणिबंध) of Goddess Sati fell at this place, which sanctified the site as a divine Shaktipeetha.

“या देवी सर्वभूतेषु शक्तिरूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥“

The temple enshrines Maa Mangal Chandika, a fierce and auspicious form of Adi Shakti, believed to ward off evil, grant success, and bring good fortune.

Mythological Significance & History

As per Shakti Peetha Stala Purana, when Lord Shiva roamed the universe in grief carrying Sati’s charred body, Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra severed her body into 51 parts. The right wrist fell at Mongalkot, making this the site of the Mangal Chandika Peetha.
Shakti Name: Maa Mangal Chandika (auspicious and powerful form of Durga)
Bhairava Name: Kapilambar
Fallen Body Part: Right wrist (दक्षिण मणिबंध)
Peeth Name: Mangal Chandika Shaktipeeth
The name “Mangal” means auspiciousness, and “Chandika” refers to the fierce form of Durga. Worship here is believed to eliminate doshas (flaws) and bring protection from misfortunes.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple reflects Bengali temple architecture with a red-brick structure, modest curved dome (chala), and traditional clay sculptures on the entrance walls.
The main sanctum (garbhagriha) houses the stone idol of Maa Mangal Chandika, usually adorned with red cloth, sindoor, and silver ornaments.
The Bhairava idol, Kapilambar, is housed in a nearby shrine, usually worshipped with black sesame and mustard oil.
The temple surroundings are peaceful, with lush greenery and a pond near the compound used for rituals and purification baths.

Beliefs & Rituals

Tuesday is considered the most auspicious day to worship Maa Mangal Chandika.

Women often offer red bangles, sindoor, and red flowers for marital harmony and protection.

Devotees tie red threads around the temple pillars while making vows (mannats).

Rituals are also performed to ward off planetary doshas, especially Mangal Dosh.
