The Jewels of Lord Rama
Om Sri Sai Ram
From an interview with Prof. Anil Kumar
[…] AK: At times, Swami takes the boys out on a picnic, where He almost plays with the boys. Sometimes, He even sings with the boys. All sorts of funny things happen.
GV: Does it all remind you of Krishna and His cowherd boys, the Gopalas?
AK: Yes, I think it is all action replay, like a tape being replayed.
GV: Except for the age difference between the physical body of the Lord and those who are with Him this time?
AK: May be, but Bhagavan crosses all time barriers when He materialises certain things. I know Sir, one year He materialised the ring worn by Lord Rama that was presented to Him by His father Dasaratha.
GV: Oops! The ring that Dasaratha gave?!!
AK: That is right. It was a diamond ring, and Swami was smiling as He looked around while materialising another ring – this time it was a sapphire ring that was presented to Lord Rama by His father-in-law, Emperor Janaka.
GV: I am told these rings are very big?
AK: Very big indeed. I said, “Swami, it is almost the size of my wrist. How come this ring is so big?” Swami replied, “Lord Rama was an Aajanubhau, meaning one of very tall stature.
GV: Eight feet or so?
AK: Yes, Swami then materialised the Mangalsutra or sacred wedding medallion, complete with the sacred thread that holds the medallion. This was worn by Mother Sita at the time of the wedding. I have also seen Swami materialising the chain worn by Ravana.
GV: Ravana?
AK: Yes, complete with 365 Shiva Lingas and a pendant at the bottom made up of three large Shiva Lingas, one yellow, one green and one blue. All the 365 were made of gold while the three in the pendant at the centre were made of crystal. This was the chain that Ravana wore.
GV: What happens to these jewels afterwards?
AK: They go back to SAI STORES (laughter). Swami also materialised a golden replica of the deer that captivated Sita, later landing her in trouble.
GV: Are you allowed to touch these objects?
AK: Yes, sir. On one occasion, Swami said, “Tomorrow is the wedding function of Balarama [brother of Krishna] and Revathi. All of you are invited for lunch!” Sure enough, on the following day, there was a fabulous lunch and in the afternoon Swami spoke about the marriage of Balarama with Revathi. And at the end He materialised a magnificent diamond-studded necklace with three or four rows of diamonds.
GV: My GOD! How big was the necklace?
AK: About 15 cms. At the centre of the arch-like necklace there was a Swan suspended by a gold chain. The Swan was clear and you could look through its eyes, beak, stomach, and so on. Every body started looking at it. Swami came to me and said, “Look, look deep”. I did so and there in the middle of the stomach of that bird I could see Bhagavan Baba in a reclining posture, the classic reclining posture of Lord Narayana, reclining on His Thousand-hooded snake, Adisesha. That is what I saw. It was absolutely fantastic. Swami also materialised the CHOODAMANI or the ornament that Sita used to wear on her head. This was theCHOODAMANI that Hanuman brought back as proof of having met Sita, when he reported back to the Lord Rama.
GV: How do the boys feel on such occasions? They must be transported to a different world.
AK: That is right, into a totally different world. They had come so close that they even took the liberty of almost pestering, saying, “Swami, let us see, let us see!” Swami gave ample opportunities for all to see these manifested objects at close quarters. He would keep them on the table so that everybody could later see at some leisure. Photographs would be taken and some of them are here in our MUSEUM also.
The Jewels of Lord Rama – Devotional India
In spiritual life, jewels are not always made of gold, diamonds, or precious stones. The greatest jewels are divine qualities such as truth, courage, compassion, humility, devotion, and righteousness. The Jewels of Lord Rama represents these sacred values that continue to guide devotees toward a pure and meaningful life. Lord Rama’s life is a shining example of dharma, patience, sacrifice, and divine grace.
Lord Rama is worshipped as Maryada Purushottam, the perfect example of noble conduct. His character teaches that real greatness does not come from power or position, but from truthfulness, discipline, and respect for duty. The Jewels of Lord Rama remind us that a person becomes spiritually rich when their heart is filled with honesty, kindness, and devotion. These qualities are more valuable than any material treasure.
One of the most beautiful jewels in Lord Rama’s life is truth. He always stood by His word, even when it brought personal pain and hardship. His exile to the forest shows His deep respect for duty and promise. In today’s world, where people often choose comfort over honesty, The Jewels of Lord Rama teach us that truth may be difficult, but it gives lasting strength and peace to the soul.
Another precious jewel is patience. Lord Rama faced many challenges in life, yet He never lost balance or dignity. He accepted difficulties with calmness and faith. This teaches devotees that life will not always be easy, but a peaceful mind can face every situation with courage. Patience helps us avoid anger, confusion, and wrong decisions during hard times.
Compassion is also one of the divine qualities of Lord Rama. He treated people with love and respect, whether they were kings, sages, villagers, animals, or devotees. His bond with Hanuman, Sugriva, Vibhishana, and many others shows the power of trust and kindness. The Jewels of Lord Rama inspire us to see goodness in others and behave with humanity in every relationship.
Lord Rama’s devotion to dharma is another sacred lesson. Dharma means living according to righteousness, responsibility, and moral values. He did not follow the easy path; He followed the right path. This message is very important in modern life, where people face many temptations and shortcuts. A person who follows dharma may struggle for some time, but their life becomes strong and respected.
The love between Lord Rama and Mata Sita is also a jewel of purity and commitment. Their relationship teaches loyalty, respect, and emotional strength. True love is not only about happiness; it is also about standing together through struggle and sacrifice. Their divine bond continues to inspire families and devotees to value trust, patience, and respect in relationships.
The devotion of Hanuman ji toward Lord Rama is one of the brightest jewels in the Ramayana. Hanuman ji served with complete surrender, courage, and humility. He never worked for personal fame; he worked only with love for his Lord. The Jewels of Lord Rama remind devotees that selfless service is one of the purest forms of worship. When service is done without ego, it becomes divine.
Lord Rama’s life also teaches leadership. A true leader protects, guides, listens, and serves. He does not misuse power or act with pride. Ram Rajya is remembered as an ideal rule where justice, peace, and happiness were valued. This teaches society that good leadership must be based on fairness, compassion, and responsibility.
For young people, Lord Rama’s values are extremely important. Modern life often brings pressure, distraction, competition, and confusion. His life teaches discipline, respect for parents, honesty, courage, and self-control. These qualities help young minds become strong, focused, and responsible. The Jewels of Lord Rama can guide them toward success with character and inner balance.
Family life can also become peaceful by following Lord Rama’s teachings. Respect for elders, love for siblings, loyalty toward relationships, and commitment to duty are all seen in His life. When families follow these values, the home becomes filled with harmony and trust. Spiritual values do not make life complicated; they make relationships stronger and more meaningful.
Prayer and remembrance of Lord Rama bring peace to the heart. Chanting His name helps remove fear, negativity, and restlessness. Many devotees believe that the name of Rama itself carries divine power. It gives courage during difficult times and creates a feeling of protection. A sincere heart can feel Lord Rama’s blessings through devotion, service, and good conduct.
In conclusion, The Jewels of Lord Rama are not outer ornaments but inner virtues that make life divine. Truth, patience, compassion, devotion, courage, humility, and dharma are the real treasures shown through His life. By following these values, a person can experience peace, strength, and spiritual growth. Lord Rama’s message continues to shine like a sacred light, guiding humanity toward righteousness, love, and divine grace.
