English Meaning: In this transient world, insubstantial like a dream, the learned have two paths: let time pass with the mind immersed in the nectar of spiritual truth, or enjoy the company of innocent young women with full breasts and hips in the play of love.
āvāsaḥ kriyatāṃ gāṅgē pāpahāriṇi vāriṇi ।

English Meaning: Let one dwell either in the sin-destroying waters of the Ganges or in the captivating embrace of a young woman’s enchanting beauty.

English Meaning: What is the use of many pointless arguments and ramblings? A man should always choose one of two things: the fresh youth of beautiful women, eager for amorous play, or the solitude of the forest.

English Meaning: O people, I speak the truth without bias, and this is true in all seven worlds: nothing is more captivating than women with graceful hips, and nothing else is a greater cause of sorrow.

English Meaning: Even a learned man becomes intoxicated, delighted, and attached upon seeing a woman, praising her as beloved, lotus-eyed, broad-hipped, full-breasted, beautiful-faced, and lovely-browed, although the body is in truth merely a sack of impure substances. Such is the strange power of delusion.

English Meaning: How can she be called beloved who causes torment when remembered, madness when seen, and delusion when touched?

English Meaning: A woman appears nectar-like only as long as she remains within the range of sight; once she passes beyond the eyes, she becomes more painful than poison.

saivāmṛtalatā raktā viraktā viṣavallarī ॥ 2.44 ॥
English Meaning: Apart from such a woman, there is neither nectar nor poison. When one is attached to her, she is a vine of nectar; when one becomes detached, she becomes a vine of poison.

English Meaning: Woman is described here as a whirlpool of doubts, a city of impropriety, a marketplace of boldness, a repository of faults, a field of deception and distrust, an obstacle at heaven’s gate, an entrance to hell, and a vessel of illusion. Who created this feminine mechanism, which is simultaneously poison, nectar, and a snare for living beings?

English Meaning: In truth, this face is not the moon, the eyes are not a pair of blue lotuses, and the body is not made of gold. Yet, deluded by poets’ descriptions, the foolish person remains attached to the bodies of doe-eyed women, which are composed of skin, flesh, and bones.

English Meaning: The natural charms of playful women stir desire in the heart of the foolish. Just as a six-legged bee, naturally attracted to the lotus, uselessly circles around it, so does the deluded mind revolve around such charms.

English Meaning: The nectar dwelling in the lips of the slender woman’s beautiful moon-destroying face is exceedingly delightful now, like the sweetest ripe fruit. But when time passes, will it not become like poison and cease to bring happiness?

English Meaning: This river in the form of a beloved woman, with waves formed by the three abdominal folds, lofty full breasts resembling a pair of chakravāka birds, and a lotus-like face, is dangerously captivating. If one wishes to avoid drowning in the ocean of worldly existence, one should keep away from it.

English Meaning: Honey dwells upon women’s lips, while their hearts contain only deadly poison. Hence their lips are kissed for their sweetness, while their hearts are metaphorically struck with fists.

English Meaning: O friend, keep far away from this serpent-like woman, whose sidelong glances are flames of poison and whose amorous gestures are like a raised hood. A person bitten by an ordinary serpent can be treated by a skilled physician, but one seized by the serpent of sensual womanly charm is exceedingly difficult to cure.

English Meaning: I would rather be bitten by a long, deceptive, winding, powerful serpent with the radiance of a blue lotus than by the glance of that woman. There are physicians everywhere for a snakebite, but for one wounded by the glance of an innocent-eyed woman, there is neither physician nor medicine.

English Meaning: O young girl, why do you cast these playful, half-open glances at me? Stop, for your effort is fruitless. I am no longer the same; childhood has passed, I seek the solitude of the forest, my delusion has faded, and I now see the net of worldly existence as mere straw.

English Meaning: A man remains on the righteous path, controls his senses, and retains modesty and humility only until the blue-lashed arrows of the eyes, released from the bows of playful brows, strike his heart and steal his self-control.

English Meaning: Even in this world, a person learned in scripture, renowned for humility, and possessed of self-knowledge is rarely a recipient of liberation, for the curved eyebrow of a beautiful-eyed woman acts like a key opening the gate of hell.

English Meaning: Even a man who is thin, one-eyed, lame, deaf, mutilated, covered with wounds and pus, infested with countless worms, emaciated by hunger and worn by age—Kāma can still make him pursue a female dog like a dog follows a bitch.

English Meaning: Foolish people who abandon the victorious feminine power of Kāma, believed capable of granting worldly prosperity, and seek false rewards are defeated by that very force, becoming naked ascetics, shaven-headed renunciants, five-tufted ascetics, or matted-haired Kāpālikas.

English Meaning: Even sages such as Viśvāmitra and Parāśara, who subsisted on air, water, and leaves, became deluded merely upon seeing a beautiful woman’s lotus-like face. Therefore, if people who eat rice with ghee and curds can completely control their senses, it would be as astonishing as the Vindhya mountain floating upon the ocean.
