“Love Walking On Two Feet”

A scientist named Dr. Baranowski, Professor of Physics at the University of Arizona and a specialist in Kirlian photography, once came to see Sai Baba. (Kirlian photography, or ‘biomagnetic field radiation photography’, is done with a special camera which photographs the energy bands around living beings; different colors in the biomagnetic field correspond to different emotional qualities.  To quote Baranowski, “When a person is full of love the aura around him is blue and when the love is pronounced, it becomes pink.”)  Baranowski had scientifically trained himself to see auras, and with this trained vision was investigating the various holy men of India.  Some years ago he gave a talk at the Prashanti Nilayam ashram on his experiences with Sai Baba.  Some excerpts:

“I have met over a hundred holy men in India.  Too many of these holy men are involved in their own personal egos.  Their auras show mostly concern for themselves and their institutions.  So [their auras] are only a foot broad or perhaps two feet.

“I am not a devotee.  I have come here as a scientist, to see this man Sai Baba.  I saw him on Sunday, on the balcony giving darshan to the devotees singing below.  The aura Baba projected was not that of a man.  The white was more than twice the size of any man’s, the blue was practically limitless, and there were gold and silver bands beyond even those, far behind this building right up to the horizon.  There is no scientific explanation for this phenomenon.

“His aura is so strong that it is affecting me standing by the chair on which He is sitting.  I can feel the effect and I’ve to wipe my arm, off and on, as you must have noticed.  It is very difficult for me to admit.  I am a scientist.  I have given over six thousand lectures in all parts of the world but for the first time, believe me, my knees are shaking.  The aura that emanates from Baba shows His Love for you. . . .  If ever I can use the phrase that I have seen ‘love walking on two feet,’ it is here.”

At this point Dr. Baranowski concluded his talk, and Sai Baba then delivered a discourse.  When Baba had finished, Baranowski asked for permission to address the audience again.

“I have been watching Baba, while He was addressing you.  The pink aura that was manifesting was so vast and strong that it went even beyond the hall behind this chair.  It filled this big hall, embracing all of you gathered here. . .    I have watched Him for a week now, as He walked among you, morning and evening.  I have seen His aura, pink in colour, go into the person He is talking to, or touching and returning to Him. . . His energy seems to be endless. . .  In my estimation, He is exactly what He appears to be – LOVE.  That is what He is.”1

Love Walking On Two Feet – A Divine Message Of Compassion And Service

Love Walking On Two Feet is a beautiful spiritual thought that reminds us that true love is not only an emotion felt inside the heart. It becomes complete when it moves through human life as kindness, service, forgiveness, patience, and compassion. Love that remains only in words is incomplete, but love that acts becomes a blessing for the world.

Many people speak about love, but real love is seen in conduct. It is seen when someone feeds the hungry, comforts the sorrowful, forgives mistakes, helps without pride, and speaks gently to those who are weak. Such love does not wait for perfect conditions. It walks into difficulty, pain, and loneliness, carrying hope wherever it goes. This is why Love Walking On Two Feet becomes a powerful image of divine love expressed through human action.

In spiritual life, love is the foundation of all goodness. Prayer, worship, meditation, and study become meaningful only when they make the heart softer. If devotion does not make a person kinder, then it has not touched the soul deeply. A truly loving person does not ask about caste, religion, wealth, language, or status before helping. Such a person sees only the suffering heart and responds with care.

Love Walking On Two Feet also teaches that the Divine often works through human hands. When a doctor treats a patient with compassion, when a teacher guides a child with patience, when a mother sacrifices for her family, or when a devotee serves the needy silently, divine love is moving through them. The person may appear ordinary, but the action becomes sacred because it is filled with selflessness.

True love does not demand attention. It does not serve for name, fame, or praise. It gives because giving is its nature. Like the sun that shines on everyone and the tree that offers shade without asking who deserves it, pure love serves without calculation. This kind of love removes ego and brings peace to the heart.

Love Walking On Two Feet reminds us that compassion must become practical. Feeling sorry for someone is only the beginning. Compassion becomes complete when it takes action. A small act of help may look simple, but it can become life-changing for someone in pain. A kind word can stop despair. A listening ear can heal loneliness. A gentle smile can give strength to a tired soul.

In daily life, love is tested in small situations. It is easy to speak sweetly in prayer, but harder to remain patient during disagreement. It is easy to praise forgiveness, but harder to forgive someone who has hurt us. It is easy to talk about service, but harder to sacrifice comfort for another person. Real love grows through these tests. Every difficult situation gives us a chance to choose love over ego.

Love Walking On Two Feet also means seeing God in all beings. When we understand that the same divine presence lives in every heart, our behavior changes. We become more careful with our words, more gentle in our actions, and more willing to serve. Hurting others then feels like hurting ourselves, and helping others feels like worshipping God.

Love is also connected with humility. A proud person cannot love fully because ego always wants superiority. Humility allows the heart to bend, understand, and serve. A humble person does not think, “I am helping others.” Instead, such a person feels grateful for the opportunity to be useful. This attitude makes service pure and beautiful.

Love Walking On Two Feet is a call to become a living example of goodness. The world does not need only speeches about love; it needs people who live love. Families need patience, society needs compassion, children need guidance, elders need respect, and the suffering need support. When even one person lives with sincere love, the atmosphere around them becomes peaceful.

The path of love also requires inner purity. If the mind is filled with jealousy, anger, pride, and selfishness, love becomes limited. Through prayer, self-control, remembrance of God, and service, the heart becomes cleaner. A pure heart naturally spreads peace. Such a heart does not hurt others intentionally and does not enjoy anyone’s pain.

In the end, love is the greatest spiritual power. It can heal wounds, unite people, remove fear, and bring meaning to life. A person may have knowledge, wealth, or position, but without love, life remains empty. When love becomes action, every step becomes sacred. Love Walking On Two Feet finally teaches us to become instruments of divine compassion, so that wherever we go, someone feels comfort, hope, and the gentle presence of God.
