॥ pañchamaḥ sargaḥ ॥
॥ sākāṅkṣapuṇḍarīkākṣaḥ ॥

ahamiha nivasāmi yāhi rādhāṃ anunaya madvachanēna chānayēthāḥ ।
iti madhuripuṇā sakhī niyuktā svayamidamētya punarjagāda rādhām ॥ 31 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: श्रीकृष्ण ने सखी से कहा—“मैं यहीं ठहरता हूँ। तुम राधा के पास जाओ और मेरी बातों से उसे समझाकर यहाँ ले आओ।” इस प्रकार श्रीकृष्ण द्वारा भेजी गई सखी स्वयं राधा के पास पहुँची और उससे यह सब कहने लगी।

English Meaning: Kṛṣṇa said to His friend, “I shall remain here. Go to Rādhā, persuade her with my words, and bring her back to me.” Thus instructed by Madhuripu, the friend went herself to Rādhā and spoke to her.

॥ gītaṃ 10 ॥

vahati malayasamīrē madanamupanidhāya ।
sphuṭati kusumanikarē virahihṛdayadalanāya ॥
tava virahē vanamālī sakhi sīdati ॥ 1 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे सखी! मलय पर्वत की सुगंधित वायु कामदेव को साथ लेकर बह रही है और विरही हृदय को पीड़ा देने के लिए फूलों के समूह खिल उठे हैं। तुम्हारे विरह में वनमाली श्रीकृष्ण अत्यंत दुखी हो रहे हैं।

English Meaning: O friend! The fragrant breeze of Malaya blows as though accompanied by Cupid, while clusters of flowers bloom to torment the hearts of those separated from their beloved. In separation from you, Vanamālī Kṛṣṇa is deeply suffering.

dahati śiśiramayūkhē maraṇamanukarōti ।
patati madanaviśikhē vilapati vikalatarō’ti ॥ 2 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: शीतल चंद्रकिरणें भी उन्हें जला रही हैं और वे मृत्यु के समान अवस्था का अनुभव कर रहे हैं। कामदेव के बाण पड़ते ही वे अत्यंत व्याकुल होकर विलाप करने लगते हैं।

English Meaning: Even the cool rays of the moon burn him, making him feel as though he were approaching death. Struck by Cupid’s arrows, he becomes utterly distraught and laments in anguish.

dhvanati madhupasamūhē śravaṇamapidadhāti ।
manasi chalitavirahē niśi niśi rujamupayāti ॥ 3 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: जब भौंरों के समूह गुंजार करते हैं, तब वह अपने कान बंद कर लेते हैं। हर रात उनके मन में विरह की पीड़ा और भी बढ़ती जाती है।

English Meaning: When swarms of bees hum around him, he even covers his ears. Night after night, the pain of separation grows within his heart.

vasati vipinavitānē tyajati lalitadhāma ।
luṭhati dharaṇiśayanē bahu vilapati tava nāma ॥ 4 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: वह वन के विस्तृत एकांत में रहता है और अपने सुंदर निवास को छोड़ चुका है। भूमि को ही अपनी शय्या बनाकर लेटता है और बार-बार तुम्हारा नाम पुकारते हुए विलाप करता है।

English Meaning: He dwells in the vast solitude of the forest, having abandoned his lovely abode. He lies upon the earth as his bed and repeatedly laments while calling your name.

raṇati pikasamavāyē pratidiśamanuyāti ।
hasati manujanichayē virahamapalapati nēti ॥ 5 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: कोयलों के समूह की मधुर ध्वनि सुनकर वह हर दिशा में तुम्हें खोजता हुआ जाता है। लोगों के समूह को देखकर भी वह हँसता है और अपने विरह को मानो अस्वीकार करता हुआ “नहीं, नहीं” कहता है।

English Meaning: Hearing the melodious cries of the gathered cuckoos, he searches for you in every direction. Seeing groups of people, he sometimes laughs and denies his own state of separation, saying, “No, no.”

sphurati kalaravarāvē smarati maṇitamēva।
tavaratisukhavibhavē gaṇayati suguṇamatīva ॥ 6 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: मधुर ध्वनियाँ सुनकर वह तुम्हारे आभूषणों की झंकार को स्मरण करता है। तुम्हारे साथ प्रेम-सुख के प्रत्येक आनंद को याद करते हुए वह तुम्हारे गुणों को अत्यंत ध्यान से गिनता और स्मरण करता है।

English Meaning: At every melodious sound, he remembers the tinkling of your ornaments. Recalling the abundance of loving pleasures he enjoyed with you, he deeply reflects upon and counts your many virtues.

tvadabhidhaśubhadamāsaṃ vadati nari śṛṇōti ।
tamapi japati sarasaṃ yuvatiṣu na ratimupaiti ॥ 7 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे नारी! वह तुम्हारे नाम को अत्यंत शुभ मानकर बोलता और सुनता है। वह मधुरता से तुम्हारे नाम का जप भी करता है और दूसरी युवतियों में उसकी कोई रुचि नहीं रह गई है।

English Meaning: O woman! He speaks and listens to your name, considering it supremely auspicious. He sweetly repeats your name again and again, and he has no interest whatsoever in other young women.

bhaṇati kavijayadēvē virahavilasitēna ।
manasi rabhasavibhavē harirudayatu sukṛtēna ॥ 8 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: कवि जयदेव कहते हैं कि विरह की इस भावपूर्ण स्थिति में, प्रेम की तीव्रता से व्याकुल मन वाले श्रीहरि आपके पुण्य और सौभाग्य से पुनः प्रकट होकर आपको प्राप्त हों।

English Meaning: Poet Jayadeva says: May Lord Hari, whose mind is overwhelmed by the intensity of love and separation, appear again before you through the power of your good fortune and merit.

pūrvaṃ yatra samaṃ tvayā ratipatērāsāditaḥ siddhaya-stasminnēva nikuñjamanmathamahātīrthē punarmādhavaḥ ।
dhyāyaṃstvāmaniśaṃ japannapi tavaivālāpamantrāvalīṃ bhūyastvatkuchakumbhanirbharaparīrambhāmṛtaṃ vāñChati ॥ 32 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे राधे! जिस निकुंज में पहले तुम्हारे साथ श्रीकृष्ण ने कामदेव से संबंधित प्रेम-सुख की सिद्धियाँ प्राप्त की थीं, उसी महान प्रेम-तीर्थ में माधव अब फिर से तुम्हारी प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं। वे दिन-रात तुम्हारा ध्यान करते हैं, तुम्हारे साथ हुई बातचीत के शब्दों को मंत्र की तरह जपते हैं और तुम्हारे पूर्ण स्तन-मंडल के आलिंगन से मिलने वाले अमृतमय सुख की पुनः इच्छा करते हैं।

English Meaning: O Rādhā! In that very grove, the great sacred place of love where Mādhava once attained the fulfillment of love’s joys together with you, He now longs for you again. Meditating upon you day and night, He repeats the words of your conversations like a sacred mantra and longs once more for the nectar of an embrace filled with your bosom’s warmth.

॥ gītaṃ 11 ॥

ratisukhasārē gatamabhisārē madanamanōharavēśam ।
na kuru nitambini gamanavilambanamanusara taṃ hṛdayēśam ॥
dhīrasamīrē yamunātīrē vasati vanē vanamālī ॥ 1 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे सुडौल नितंबों वाली सुंदरी! प्रेम-सुख के सार से परिपूर्ण इस मिलन के अवसर पर श्रीकृष्ण ने कामदेव को भी मोहित करने वाला सुंदर रूप धारण किया है। जाने में विलंब मत करो; अपने हृदय के स्वामी का अनुसरण करो। वनमाली शांत समीर से युक्त यमुना के तट के वन में तुम्हारी प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं।

English Meaning: O beautiful one with graceful hips! At this appointed time of love and union, Kṛṣṇa has assumed a form that enchants even Cupid. Do not delay your journey; follow the Lord of your heart. Vanamālī waits in the forest on the bank of the Yamunā, where gentle breezes are blowing.

nāma samētaṃ kṛtasaṅkētaṃ vādayatē mṛduvēṇum ।
bahu manutē nanu tē tanusaṅgatapavanachalitamapi rēṇum ॥ 2 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: वह तुम्हारा नाम लेकर, पहले से निश्चित किए गए मिलन-स्थल पर अपनी मधुर बाँसुरी बजा रहा है। तुम्हारे शरीर को स्पर्श करके आई हुई हवा से उड़ने वाली धूल को भी वह अत्यंत मूल्यवान समझता है।

English Meaning: Calling your name, he plays his gentle flute at the place appointed for your meeting. He considers even the dust stirred by the breeze that has touched your body to be exceedingly precious.

patati patatrē vichalati patrē śaṅkitabhavadupayānam ।
rachayati śayanaṃ sachakitanayanaṃ paśyati tava panthānam ॥ 3 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: पक्षी के पंख गिरने या पत्ते के हिलने मात्र से वह यह सोचकर चौंक उठता है कि शायद तुम आ रही हो। वह शय्या तैयार करता है, फिर आशंकित नेत्रों से तुम्हारे आने के मार्ग को देखता रहता है।

English Meaning: At the fall of a bird’s feather or the movement of a leaf, he becomes startled, thinking that perhaps you are approaching. He prepares a bed and repeatedly watches your path with expectant eyes.

mukharamadhīraṃ tyaja mañjīraṃ ripumiva kēliṣulōlam ।
chala sakhi kuñjaṃ satimirapuñjaṃ śīlaya nīlanichōlam ॥ 4 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे सखी! अपनी मुखर और चंचल पायल को छोड़ दो, क्योंकि प्रेम-क्रीड़ा में उसकी झंकार मानो शत्रु के समान बाधा उत्पन्न करेगी। चलो, अंधकार से भरे उस निकुंज में जाओ और अपने नीलवर्ण वस्त्र से स्वयं को ढककर वहाँ प्रवेश करो।

English Meaning: O friend! Set aside your noisy, restless anklets, for their sound may act like an enemy during the secret play of love. Come, enter that grove filled with darkness, concealing yourself in your blue garment.

urasi murārērupahitahārē ghana iva taralabalākē ।
taṭidiva pītē rativiparītē rājasi sukṛtavipākē ॥ 5 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: तुम्हारे वक्ष पर सुंदर हार सुशोभित हो और तुम श्रीमुरारि के वक्ष पर ऐसे शोभायमान हो जैसे घने मेघ पर चंचल बगुलों की पंक्ति। पीतवर्ण वस्त्रों में तुम बिजली की चमक के समान दिखाई देती हो। प्रेम की इस विशेष अवस्था में तुम्हारा सौभाग्य अपने पूर्ण फल को प्राप्त कर रहा है।

English Meaning: With a beautiful necklace adorning your bosom, you will shine upon Murāri’s chest like a row of restless white cranes against a dense cloud. In your yellow garments, you will gleam like lightning. In this intimate union of love, the fruit of your good fortune reaches its fulfillment.

vigalitavasanaṃ parihṛtarasanaṃ ghaṭaya jaghanamapidhānam ।
kisalayaśayanē paṅkajanayanē nidhimiva harṣanidānam ॥ 6 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे कमलनयनी! अपने ढीले पड़े वस्त्र को सँभालो और कमर के आभूषण को हटा दो। कोमल पत्तों की शय्या पर अपने अंगों को इस प्रकार सजाओ कि तुम स्वयं आनंद के खजाने और हर्ष के मूल कारण के समान दिखाई दो।

English Meaning: O lotus-eyed one! Arrange your loosened garment and set aside the girdle around your waist. Upon the bed of tender leaves, arrange yourself so that you become like a treasure of delight and the very source of joy.

harirabhimānī rajaniridānīmiyamapi yāti virāmam ।
kuru mama vachanaṃ satvararachanaṃ pūraya madhuripukāmam ॥ 7 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: श्रीहरि प्रेम और मान से व्याकुल होकर तुम्हारी प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं और यह रात्रि भी अब समाप्त होने वाली है। इसलिए मेरी बात मानो, शीघ्र चलो और मधुरिपु श्रीकृष्ण की प्रेमपूर्ण इच्छा को पूर्ण करो।

English Meaning: Hari, filled with loving longing, is waiting for you, and this night too is nearing its end. Therefore, follow my words, hasten to him, and fulfill the loving desire of Madhuripu Kṛṣṇa.

śrījayadēvē kṛtaharisēvē bhaṇati paramaramaṇīyam ।
pramuditahṛdayaṃ harimatisadayaṃ namata sukṛtakamanīyam ॥ 8 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: श्रीहरि की सेवा में समर्पित कवि जयदेव कहते हैं—अत्यंत रमणीय और आनंद से पूर्ण, अत्यंत करुणामय हरि को प्रणाम करो; उनके चरणों की शरण लेना महान पुण्य और सौभाग्य का विषय है।

English Meaning: Poet Jayadeva, devoted to the service of Hari, says: Bow to Hari, who is supremely charming, compassionate, and filled with joy. Taking refuge in Him is a most beautiful and meritorious blessing.

vikirati muhuḥ śvāsāndiśaḥ purō muhurīkṣatē praviśati muhuḥ kuñjaṃ guñjanmuhurbahu tāmyati ।
rachayati muhuḥ śayyāṃ paryākulaṃ muhurīkṣatē madanakadanaklāntaḥ kāntē priyastava vartatē ॥ 33 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे प्रिये! तुम्हारा प्रिय श्रीकृष्ण कामदेव की पीड़ा से अत्यंत थक चुके हैं। वे बार-बार गहरी साँसें छोड़ते हैं, आगे की दिशाओं में बार-बार देखते हैं, बार-बार निकुंज में प्रवेश करते हैं, फिर बाहर आते हैं, अत्यंत व्याकुल होते हैं, शय्या बनाते हैं और फिर तुम्हारे आने के मार्ग की ओर देखते रहते हैं। इस प्रकार वे तुम्हारी प्रतीक्षा में व्याकुल होकर पड़े हैं।

English Meaning: O beloved! Your dear Kṛṣṇa, exhausted by the torment of Cupid, repeatedly sighs deeply, gazes toward the path, enters the grove again and again, grows increasingly distressed, prepares the bed repeatedly, and anxiously looks toward the way you may come. Thus he waits for you in deep longing.

tvadvāmyēna samaṃ samagramadhunā tigmāṃśurastaṃ gatō gōvindasya manōrathēna cha samaṃ prāptaṃ tamaḥ sāndratām ।
kōkānāṃ karuṇasvanēna sadṛśī dīrghā madabhyarthanā tanmugdhē viphalaṃ vilambanamasau ramyō’bhisārakṣaṇaḥ ॥ 34 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे मुग्धे! तुम्हारे मान के साथ-साथ सूर्य भी अस्त हो गया है और गोविंद की उत्कंठा के साथ-साथ अंधकार भी गहरा हो गया है। चकवा-चकवी के करुण स्वर के समान मेरी विनती भी लंबी होती जा रही है। इसलिए अब विलंब करना व्यर्थ है; प्रिय से मिलने के लिए यह अत्यंत सुंदर समय है।

English Meaning: O innocent one! The sun has now set along with your sulking mood, while the darkness has deepened together with Govinda’s longing. My plea has become as prolonged and plaintive as the cry of the cakravāka birds. Therefore, further delay is fruitless; this is a beautiful and auspicious moment for you to go and meet your beloved.

āślēṣādanu chumbanādanu nakhōllēkhādanu svāntaja-prōdbōdhādanu sambhramādanu ratārambhādanu prītayōḥ ।
anyārthaṃ gatayōrbhramānmilitayōḥ sambhāṣaṇairjānatō-rdampatyōriha kō na kō na tamasi vrīḍāvimiśrō rasaḥ ॥ 35 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: आलिंगन के बाद चुंबन, उसके बाद नखों के स्पर्श, फिर हृदय में प्रेम-जागरण, उसके बाद प्रेमपूर्ण संकोच और अंततः रति का आरंभ—जब दो प्रेमी भ्रमवश अलग-अलग प्रयोजन से आए हों और फिर मिलकर परस्पर बातचीत से अपने भावों को समझें, तब अंधकार में लज्जा से मिश्रित ऐसा कौन-सा प्रेमरस नहीं है जिसका अनुभव वे न करें?

English Meaning: After the embrace comes the kiss, then the playful touch of nails, then the awakening of love within the heart, followed by tender excitement and finally the beginning of union. When two lovers, having mistakenly gone elsewhere, finally meet and understand each other through intimate conversation, what flavor of love, mingled with bashful sweetness in the darkness, do they not experience?

sabhayachakitaṃ vinyasyantīṃ dṛśau timirē pathi pratitaru muhuḥ sthitvā mandaṃ padāni vitanvatīm ।
kathamapi rahaḥ prāptāmaṅgairanaṅgataraṅgibhiḥ sumukhi subhagaḥ paśyansa tvāmupaitu kṛtārthatām ॥ 36 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: हे सुंदर मुख वाली! अंधकारमय मार्ग पर भय और संकोच से चारों ओर देखती हुई, प्रत्येक वृक्ष के पास रुक-रुककर धीरे-धीरे कदम बढ़ाती हुई तुम किसी प्रकार उस गुप्त स्थान तक पहुँचो। वहाँ प्रेम की तरंगों से पुलकित अंगों वाली तुम्हें देखकर तुम्हारा प्रिय श्रीकृष्ण अपने जीवन को सफल माने।

English Meaning: O lovely-faced one! On the dark path, looking around with fear and hesitation, pausing again and again near each tree and taking slow steps, somehow reach the secret meeting place. When your beloved sees you there, your limbs trembling with waves of love, may he consider his life fulfilled.

rādhāmugdhamukhāravindamadhupastrailōkyamaulisthalī
nēpathyōchitanīlaratnamavanībhārāvatārāntakaḥ।
svachChandaṃ vrajasubdarījanamanastōṣapradōṣōdayaḥ
kaṃsadhvaṃsanadhūmakēturavatu tvāṃ dēvakīnandanaḥ॥ 36 + 1 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: देवकीनंदन श्रीकृष्ण, जो मुग्ध राधा के मुख-कमल के मधुर रस के भौंरे के समान हैं, तीनों लोकों के मुकुट के मणि के समान शोभित होते हैं और पृथ्वी के भार को दूर करने के लिए अवतरित हुए हैं। वे नीलमणि के समान सुंदर हैं, व्रज की सुंदरियों के मन को अपनी इच्छा से आनंद देने वाले हैं और कंस-विनाश के लिए धूमकेतु के समान प्रकट हुए हैं। वे तुम्हारी रक्षा करें।

English Meaning: May Devakī’s son, Kṛṣṇa, protect you. He is like a bee drinking the sweetness of Rādhā’s enchanting lotus-like face, a jewel adorning the crown of the three worlds, and the destroyer who descended to relieve the burden of the earth. Adorned in a beauty like a blue jewel, He freely delights the hearts of the beautiful women of Vraja and appears like a comet to destroy Kaṃsa.

॥ iti śrīgītagōvindē’bhisārikavarṇanē sākāṅkṣapuṇḍarīkākṣō nāma pañchamaḥ sargaḥ ॥

हिंदी अर्थ: इस प्रकार श्रीगीतगोविंद में अभिसारिका के वर्णन से संबंधित “साकाङ्क्षपुण्डरीकाक्ष” नामक पंचम सर्ग पूर्ण हुआ।

English Meaning: Thus concludes the fifth canto of Śrī Gītagōvinda, entitled “Sākāṅkṣapuṇḍarīkākṣaḥ,” describing the heroine’s journey to meet her beloved.
