English Meaning:
Salutations to Shri Guru. Hari Om.

dhyānam
haṃsābhyāṃ parivṛttapatrakamalairdivyairjagatkāraṇaṃ
viśvōtkīrṇamanēkadēhanilayaṃ svachChandamānandakam ।
ādyantaikamakhaṇḍachidghanarasaṃ pūrṇaṃ hyanantaṃ śubhaṃ
pratyakṣākṣaravigrahaṃ gurupadaṃ dhyāyēdvibhuṃ śāśvatam ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
मैं उस शाश्वत, सर्वव्यापक गुरु-तत्त्व का ध्यान करता हूँ, जो हंसों से घिरे दिव्य कमल के समान पवित्र है, जो सम्पूर्ण जगत का कारण है, जो असंख्य शरीरों में निवास करता है और स्वतंत्र रूप से आनंदस्वरूप है। जो आदि और अंत से रहित, अखंड चैतन्य और आनंद का पूर्ण स्वरूप, अनंत एवं मंगलमय है तथा अक्षर ब्रह्म के प्रत्यक्ष स्वरूप के समान है—ऐसे गुरु के पवित्र चरणों का ध्यान करना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
I meditate upon the eternal, all-pervading Guru, symbolized by the divine lotus surrounded by swans, who is the cause of the entire universe, who dwells in countless bodies, and who is spontaneously blissful. He is without beginning or end, the complete essence of undivided Consciousness and Bliss, infinite and auspicious, and the manifest embodiment of the imperishable Brahman. I meditate upon those eternal Guru-feet.

atha prathamō’dhyāyaḥ ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
अब प्रथम अध्याय आरंभ होता है।

English Meaning:
Now begins the First Chapter.

achintyāvyaktarūpāya nirguṇāya gaṇātmanē ।
samastajagadādhāramūrtayē brahmaṇē namaḥ ॥ 1 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
उस ब्रह्म को नमस्कार है, जिसका स्वरूप अचिंत्य और अव्यक्त है, जो निर्गुण है, जो समस्त प्राणियों के अंतरात्मा हैं और जो सम्पूर्ण जगत के आधारस्वरूप हैं।

English Meaning:
Salutations to Brahman, whose nature is inconceivable and unmanifest, who is beyond the three qualities, who is the indwelling Self of all beings, and who is the foundation of the entire universe.

ṛṣaya ūchuḥ ।
sūta sūta mahāprājña nigamāgamapāraga ।
gurusvarūpamasmākaṃ brūhi sarvamalāpaham ॥ 2 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
ऋषियों ने कहा—हे सूत! हे महान ज्ञानी, वेदों और आगमों के पारंगत विद्वान! हमें गुरु के उस स्वरूप का वर्णन कीजिए जो सभी प्रकार के मल, दोष और अज्ञान को दूर करने वाला है।

English Meaning:
The sages said: O Suta, O greatly wise one, well versed in the Vedas and Agamas, tell us about the nature of the Guru, whose knowledge removes all impurities, faults, and ignorance.

yasya śravaṇamātrēṇa dēhī duḥkhādvimuchyatē ।
yēna mārgēṇa munayaḥ sarvajñatvaṃ prapēdirē ॥ 3 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिस गुरु-तत्त्व का केवल श्रवण करने मात्र से जीव दुःख से मुक्त हो जाता है और जिस मार्ग का अनुसरण करके मुनियों ने सर्वज्ञता की अवस्था प्राप्त की, उस मार्ग का वर्णन कीजिए।

English Meaning:
Please describe that Guru-principle merely by hearing about which a person becomes free from sorrow, and the path by which sages attained the state of all-knowing wisdom.

yatprāpya na punaryāti naraḥ saṃsārabandhanam ।
tathāvidhaṃ paraṃ tattvaṃ vaktavyamadhunā tvayā ॥ 4 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिस परम तत्त्व को प्राप्त करने के बाद मनुष्य फिर संसार के बंधन में नहीं लौटता, उस परम सत्य का अब आप हमें उपदेश करें।

English Meaning:
Now teach us that Supreme Truth, attaining which a person never again returns to the bondage of worldly existence.

guhyādguhyatamaṃ sāraṃ gurugītā viśēṣataḥ ।
tvatprasādāchcha śrōtavyā tatsarvaṃ brūhi sūta naḥ ॥ 5 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गुरुगीता विशेष रूप से अत्यंत गुप्त और सभी गूढ़ ज्ञान का सार है। आपकी कृपा से हम इसे सुनना चाहते हैं। हे सूत, हमें इसका सम्पूर्ण उपदेश प्रदान करें।

English Meaning:
The Guru Gita, in particular, is the most secret essence of all profound spiritual teachings. By Your grace, we wish to hear it. O Suta, tell us all of it.

iti samprārthitaḥ sūtō munisaṅghairmuhurmuhuḥ ।
kutūhalēna mahatā prōvācha madhuraṃ vachaḥ ॥ 6 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
इस प्रकार मुनियों के समूह द्वारा बार-बार प्रार्थना किए जाने पर सूत अत्यंत प्रसन्न और उत्सुक होकर मधुर वचन कहने लगे।

English Meaning:
Thus repeatedly requested by the assembly of sages, Suta, filled with great joy and eagerness, began to speak sweet words.

sūta uvācha ।
śruṇudhvaṃ munayaḥ sarvē śraddhayā parayā mudā ।
vadāmi bhavarōgaghnīṃ gītāṃ mātṛsvarūpiṇīm ॥ 7 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
सूत ने कहा—हे सभी मुनियों! परम श्रद्धा और आनंद से सुनिए। मैं उस गुरुगीता का वर्णन करता हूँ जो संसाररूपी रोग का नाश करने वाली और माता के समान कल्याणकारी है।

English Meaning:
Suta said: O all sages, listen with supreme faith and joy. I shall speak the Guru Gita, which destroys the disease of worldly existence and is nurturing and compassionate like a mother.

purā kailāsaśikharē siddhagandharvasēvitē ।
tatra kalpalatāpuṣpamandirē’tyantasundarē ॥ 8 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
प्राचीन समय में कैलास पर्वत के शिखर पर, जहाँ सिद्ध और गंधर्व सेवा करते थे, वहाँ कल्पलता के पुष्पों से निर्मित अत्यंत सुंदर मंदिर में यह दिव्य संवाद हुआ।

English Meaning:
In ancient times, upon the summit of Mount Kailasa, served by Siddhas and Gandharvas, in an exceedingly beautiful temple adorned with the flowers of the wish-fulfilling Kalpalata, this divine dialogue took place.

vyāghrājinē samāsīnaṃ śukādimunivanditam ।
bōdhayantaṃ paraṃ tattvaṃ madhyē munigaṇē kvachit ॥ 9 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
वहाँ भगवान शिव व्याघ्रचर्म पर विराजमान थे, शुक आदि मुनियों द्वारा वंदित थे और मुनियों के समूह के मध्य परम तत्त्व का उपदेश कर रहे थे।

English Meaning:
There, Lord Shiva was seated upon a tiger skin, revered by sages such as Shuka, and was teaching the Supreme Truth amidst an assembly of sages.

praṇamravadanā śaśvannamaskurvantamādarāt ।
dṛṣṭvā vismayamāpanna pārvatī paripṛchChati ॥ 10 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
पार्वतीजी ने देखा कि भगवान शिव बार-बार श्रद्धापूर्वक किसी को नमस्कार कर रहे हैं। यह देखकर उन्हें बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ और उन्होंने उनसे प्रश्न किया।

English Meaning:
Parvati saw Lord Shiva repeatedly bowing with reverence to someone. Astonished by this, she respectfully asked Him a question.

pārvatyuvācha ।
ōṃ namō dēva dēvēśa parātpara jagadgurō ।
tvāṃ namaskurvatē bhaktyā surāsuranarāḥ sadā ॥ 11 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
पार्वतीजी ने कहा—ॐ। हे देवों के देव, हे परम से भी परे, हे जगद्गुरु! देवता, असुर और मनुष्य सभी सदा भक्ति से आपको नमस्कार करते हैं।

English Meaning:
Parvati said: Om. O God of gods, O Supreme beyond the highest, O Jagadguru! Devas, Asuras, and human beings all constantly bow to You with devotion.

vidhiviṣṇumahēndrādyairvandyaḥ khalu sadā bhavān ।
namaskarōṣi kasmai tvaṃ namaskārāśrayaḥ kila ॥ 12 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, इंद्र आदि देवता भी सदा आपकी वंदना करते हैं। फिर आप किसे नमस्कार कर रहे हैं? आप तो स्वयं समस्त नमस्कारों के आश्रय हैं।

English Meaning:
Brahma, Vishnu, Indra, and other great deities always worship You. Then to whom are You offering obeisance? You are Yourself the very foundation and object of all salutations.

dṛṣṭvaitatkarma vipulamāścharya pratibhāti mē ।
kimētanna vijānē’haṃ kṛpayā vada mē prabhō ॥ 13 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
आपके इस महान और आश्चर्यजनक आचरण को देखकर मुझे बहुत आश्चर्य हो रहा है। मैं इसे समझ नहीं पा रही हूँ। हे प्रभु, कृपा करके मुझे इसका रहस्य बताइए।

English Meaning:
Seeing this extraordinary and wondrous act of Yours, I am filled with amazement. I do not understand it. O Lord, please compassionately reveal its secret to me.

bhagavan sarvadharmajña vratānāṃ vratanāyakam ।
brūhi mē kṛpayā śambhō gurumāhātmyamuttamam ॥ 14 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे भगवान शंभो, आप सभी धर्मों के ज्ञाता और समस्त व्रतों के अधिपति हैं। कृपापूर्वक मुझे गुरु की महान महिमा का उपदेश दीजिए।

English Meaning:
O Bhagavan Shambhu, knower of all dharma and Lord of all sacred observances, please compassionately teach me about the supreme glory and greatness of the Guru.

kēna mārgēṇa bhō svāmin dēhī brahmamayō bhavēt ।
tatkṛpāṃ kuru mē svāmin namāmi charaṇau tava ॥ 15 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे स्वामी, किस मार्ग का अनुसरण करके जीव ब्रह्ममय हो सकता है? कृपापूर्वक मुझे वह मार्ग बताइए। मैं आपके चरणों में नमस्कार करती हूँ।

English Meaning:
O Lord, by what path can an embodied being become established in Brahman? Please bestow that teaching upon me. I bow at Your feet.

iti samprārthitaḥ śaśvanmahādēvō mahēśvaraḥ ।
ānandabharitaḥ svāntē pārvatīmidamabravīt ॥ 16 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
इस प्रकार पार्वती द्वारा बार-बार प्रार्थना किए जाने पर महादेव महेश्वर का हृदय आनंद से भर गया और उन्होंने पार्वती से यह कहा।

English Meaning:
Thus repeatedly entreated by Parvati, Mahadeva Maheshvara, filled with inner joy, spoke the following words to Parvati.

śrī mahādēva uvācha ।
na vaktavyamidaṃ dēvi rahasyātirahasyakam ।
na kasyāpi purā prōktaṃ tvadbhaktyarthaṃ vadāmi tat ॥ 17 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
श्री महादेव ने कहा—हे देवी, यह अत्यंत गुप्त से भी अधिक गुप्त ज्ञान है और इसे सामान्यतः किसी से नहीं कहना चाहिए। परंतु तुम्हारी भक्ति के कारण मैं आज तुम्हें इसका उपदेश दे रहा हूँ।

English Meaning:
Shri Mahadeva said: O Devi, this teaching is more secret than the most secret knowledge and has not been revealed to others. But because of your devotion, I shall now reveal it to you.

mama rūpā’si dēvi tvamatastatkathayāmi tē ।
lōkōpakārakaḥ praśnō na kēnāpi kṛtaḥ purā ॥ 18 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे देवी, तुम मेरे ही स्वरूप हो; इसलिए मैं तुम्हें यह रहस्य बताता हूँ। तुम्हारा प्रश्न लोककल्याणकारी है और ऐसा प्रश्न पहले किसी ने नहीं किया।

English Meaning:
O Devi, you are of My own nature; therefore I shall reveal this teaching to you. Your question is for the welfare of the world, and no one has asked such a question before.

yasya dēvē parā bhaktiryathā dēvē tathā gurau ।
tasyaitē kathitā hyarthāḥ prakāśantē mahātmanaḥ ॥ 19 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिस साधक की परम भक्ति अपने इष्टदेव में है और उसी प्रकार गुरु में भी है, उसके सामने इन शिक्षाओं का वास्तविक अर्थ स्वयं प्रकाशित हो जाता है। ऐसे महात्मा को गुरु-तत्त्व का सत्य समझ में आता है।

English Meaning:
For the great soul who has supreme devotion to the chosen deity and the same devotion to the Guru, the true meaning of these teachings becomes revealed by itself. Such a person realizes the truth of the Guru-principle.

yō guruḥ sa śivaḥ prōktō yaḥ śivaḥ sa guruḥ smṛtaḥ ।
vikalpaṃ yastu kurvīta sa narō gurutalpagaḥ ॥ 20 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो गुरु हैं, वही शिव कहे गए हैं और जो शिव हैं, वही गुरु माने गए हैं। जो व्यक्ति गुरु और शिव में भेदभाव करता है, वह गुरु के प्रति अत्यंत गंभीर अपराध का भागी बनता है।

English Meaning:
The Guru is declared to be Shiva, and Shiva is remembered as the Guru. One who creates a distinction between the Guru and Shiva commits a grave offense against the Guru.

durlabhaṃ triṣu lōkēṣu tachChṛṇuṣva vadāmyaham ।
gurubrahma vinā nānyaḥ satyaṃ satyaṃ varānanē ॥ 21 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे सुंदर मुख वाली देवी, तीनों लोकों में जो अत्यंत दुर्लभ सत्य है, उसे सुनो। गुरु-ब्रह्म के अतिरिक्त कोई अन्य परम सत्य नहीं है—यह सत्य है, निश्चय ही सत्य है।

English Meaning:
O beautiful-faced Devi, listen to this truth, which is exceedingly rare in all the three worlds. There is no Truth higher than Guru-Brahman. This is the truth, indeed the truth.

vēdaśāstrapurāṇāni chētihāsādikāni cha ।
mantrayantrādividyānāṃ mōhanōchchāṭanādikam ॥ 22 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
वेद, शास्त्र, पुराण, इतिहास आदि तथा मंत्र, यंत्र और विभिन्न विद्याएँ, जिनमें मोहन, उच्चाटन आदि साधन भी सम्मिलित हैं—

English Meaning:
The Vedas, Shastras, Puranas, histories, and various branches of knowledge involving mantras, yantras, and practices such as mohana and uchchatana—

śaivaśāktāgamādīni hyanyē cha bahavō matāḥ ।
apabhraṃśāḥ samastānāṃ jīvānāṃ bhrāntachētasām ॥ 23 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
शैव, शाक्त और अन्य अनेक आगम तथा विभिन्न मत-मतांतर—यदि गुरु-तत्त्व के वास्तविक ज्ञान के बिना अपनाए जाएँ, तो भ्रमित चित्त वाले जीवों के लिए वे अपने परम उद्देश्य से भटकाने वाले हो सकते हैं।

English Meaning:
Shaiva, Shakta, and many other Agamas and systems of thought, when pursued without understanding the Guru-principle, can become deviations from the true goal for beings whose minds are deluded.

japastapō vrataṃ tīrthaṃ yajñō dānaṃ tathaiva cha ।
gurutattvamavijñāya sarvaṃ vyarthaṃ bhavētpriyē ॥ 24 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे प्रिय देवी, गुरु-तत्त्व को जाने बिना जप, तप, व्रत, तीर्थयात्रा, यज्ञ और दान—ये सभी अपने परम आध्यात्मिक फल से वंचित होकर व्यर्थ हो सकते हैं।

English Meaning:
O beloved Devi, without understanding the Guru-principle, practices such as mantra repetition, austerity, vows, pilgrimage, sacrifice, and charity may become fruitless in terms of their highest spiritual purpose.

gurubuddhyātmanō nānyat satyaṃ satyaṃ varānanē ।
tallābhārthaṃ prayatnastu kartavyaścha manīṣibhiḥ ॥ 25 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे सुंदर मुख वाली देवी, गुरु के ज्ञानमय स्वरूप से अलग आत्मा का कोई अन्य परम सत्य नहीं है—यह सत्य है, निश्चय ही सत्य है। इसलिए विवेकी मनुष्यों को उस सत्य की प्राप्ति के लिए प्रयत्न करना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
O beautiful-faced Devi, there is no higher truth of the Self apart from the wisdom embodied by the Guru. This is the truth, indeed the truth. Therefore, the wise should strive to realize it.

gūḍhāvidyā jaganmāyā dēhaśchājñānasambhavaḥ ।
vijñānaṃ yatprasādēna guruśabdēna kathyatē ॥ 26 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गूढ़ अज्ञान ही जगत की माया का कारण है और शरीर भी अज्ञान से उत्पन्न माना गया है। जिस गुरु की कृपा से परम विज्ञान प्राप्त होता है, उसी को गुरु कहा जाता है।

English Meaning:
The hidden ignorance is the basis of worldly Maya, and the body is said to arise from ignorance. The one through whose grace true spiritual knowledge is attained is known as the Guru.

yadaṅghrikamaladvandvaṃ dvandvatāpanivārakam ।
tārakaṃ bhavasindhōścha taṃ guruṃ praṇamāmyaham ॥ 27 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
मैं उस गुरु को प्रणाम करता हूँ जिनके दोनों चरणकमल जीवन के द्वंद्वों से उत्पन्न ताप को दूर करते हैं और संसार-सागर से पार कराने वाले हैं।

English Meaning:
I bow to that Guru whose twin lotus feet remove the torment caused by the pairs of opposites and carry one across the ocean of worldly existence.

dēhī brahma bhavēdyasmāt tvatkṛpārthaṃ vadāmi tat ।
sarvapāpaviśuddhātmā śrīgurōḥ pādasēvanāt ॥ 28 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे देवी, गुरु की कृपा से जीव ब्रह्मस्वरूप हो जाता है, इसलिए मैं यह ज्ञान तुम्हें प्रदान कर रहा हूँ। श्रीगुरु के चरणों की सेवा से आत्मा सभी पापों से शुद्ध हो जाती है।

English Meaning:
O Devi, through the Guru’s grace, the embodied being realizes the nature of Brahman; therefore I reveal this teaching to you. Through service to the feet of Shri Guru, the Self becomes purified of all sins.

sarvatīrthāvagāhasya samprāpnōti phalaṃ naraḥ ।
gurōḥ pādōdakaṃ pītvā śēṣaṃ śirasi dhārayan ॥ 29 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो मनुष्य गुरु के चरणों का पवित्र जल ग्रहण करता है और शेष जल को अपने सिर पर धारण करता है, उसे सभी तीर्थों में स्नान करने के समान फल प्राप्त होता है।

English Meaning:
A person who partakes of the sacred water from the Guru’s feet and places the remaining water upon the head receives the merit equivalent to bathing in all sacred pilgrimage places.

śōṣaṇaṃ pāpapaṅkasya dīpanaṃ jñānatējasaḥ ।
gurōḥ pādōdakaṃ samyak saṃsārārṇavatārakam ॥ 30 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गुरु के चरणों का पवित्र जल पापरूपी कीचड़ को सुखाने वाला, ज्ञान के प्रकाश को प्रज्वलित करने वाला और संसाररूपी समुद्र से पार कराने वाला है।

English Meaning:
The sacred water of the Guru’s feet dries up the mire of sin, kindles the radiance of spiritual knowledge, and carries the seeker across the ocean of worldly existence.

ajñānamūlaharaṇaṃ janmakarmanivārakam ।
jñānavairāgyasiddhyarthaṃ gurōḥ pādōdakaṃ pibēt ॥ 31 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गुरु के चरणोदक का सेवन अज्ञान की जड़ को नष्ट करने वाला और जन्म-कर्म के बंधन को दूर करने वाला माना गया है। ज्ञान और वैराग्य की सिद्धि के लिए इसे श्रद्धापूर्वक ग्रहण करना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
The sacred water of the Guru’s feet is said to destroy the root of ignorance and remove the bondage of birth and karma. It should be received with devotion for the attainment of knowledge and detachment.

gurupādōdakaṃ pānaṃ gurōruchChiṣṭabhōjanam ।
gurumūrtēḥ sadā dhyānaṃ gurōrnāma sadā japaḥ ॥ 32 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गुरु के चरणोदक का पान करना, गुरु के उच्छिष्ट प्रसाद को ग्रहण करना, सदैव गुरु के स्वरूप का ध्यान करना और गुरु के नाम का निरंतर जप करना—ये गुरु-भक्ति के श्रेष्ठ साधन हैं।

English Meaning:
Drinking the sacred water of the Guru’s feet, receiving the Guru’s sacred remnants as Prasad, constantly meditating upon the Guru’s form, and continually repeating the Guru’s name are exalted practices of Guru devotion.

svadēśikasyaiva cha nāmakīrtanaṃ
bhavēdanantasya śivasya kīrtanam ।
svadēśikasyaiva cha nāmachintanaṃ
bhavēdanantasya śivasya chintanam ॥ 33 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
अपने सद्गुरु के नाम का कीर्तन करना अनंत शिव का ही कीर्तन करना है। अपने सद्गुरु के नाम का चिंतन करना अनंत शिव का ही चिंतन करना है।

English Meaning:
Chanting the name of one’s own Guru is itself the chanting of the Infinite Shiva. Contemplating the name of one’s Guru is itself contemplation of the Infinite Shiva.

yatpādāmbujarēṇurvai kō’pi saṃsāravāridhau ।
sētubandhāyatē nāthaṃ dēśikaṃ tamupāsmahē ॥ 34 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हम उस गुरु-स्वरूप देशिक की उपासना करते हैं जिनके चरणकमलों की धूल भी संसाररूपी समुद्र को पार करने के लिए सेतु के समान बन जाती है।

English Meaning:
We worship that divine Guru whose lotus-foot dust itself becomes like a bridge for crossing the ocean of worldly existence.

yadanugrahamātrēṇa śōkamōhau vinaśyataḥ ।
tasmai śrīdēśikēndrāya namō’stu paramātmanē ॥ 35 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिनकी मात्र कृपा से शोक और मोह नष्ट हो जाते हैं, उन परमात्मस्वरूप श्री देशिकेंद्र को मेरा नमस्कार है।

English Meaning:
Salutations to Shri Deshikendra, who is of the nature of the Supreme Self, by whose mere grace sorrow and delusion are destroyed.

yasmādanugrahaṃ labdhvā mahadajñānamutsṛjēt ।
tasmai śrīdēśikēndrāya namaśchābhīṣṭasiddhayē ॥ 36 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिनकी कृपा प्राप्त करके मनुष्य महान अज्ञान को त्याग देता है, उन श्री देशिकेंद्र को मेरी नमस्कार है। उनकी कृपा से सभी शुभ और आध्यात्मिक अभिलाषाएँ सिद्ध हों।

English Meaning:
Salutations to Shri Deshikendra, by whose grace one abandons profound ignorance. May His grace lead to the fulfillment of noble and spiritual aspirations.

kāśīkṣētraṃ nivāsaścha jāhnavī charaṇōdakam ।
gururviśvēśvaraḥ sākṣāt tārakaṃ brahmaniśchayaḥ ॥ 37 ॥

Salutations to Sri Guru, who destroys the bonds of karma accumulated through countless births by the power of the fire of knowledge.

श्लोक 76

śōṣaṇaṃ bhavasindhōścha dīpanaṃ kṣarasampadām ।
gurōḥ pādōdakaṃ yasya tasmai śrīguravē namaḥ ॥ 76 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिनके चरणों का जल संसार-सागर को सुखाने वाला और क्षणभंगुर सांसारिक संपत्तियों के प्रति विवेक का प्रकाश जगाने वाला है, उन श्रीगुरुदेव को नमस्कार है।

English Meaning:
Salutations to Sri Guru, whose pādodaka, the water associated with the Guru’s feet, dries up the ocean of worldly existence and kindles awareness beyond perishable worldly wealth.

श्लोक 77

na gurōradhikaṃ tattvaṃ na gurōradhikaṃ tapaḥ ।
na gurōradhikaṃ jñānaṃ tasmai śrīguravē namaḥ ॥ 77 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गुरु से बढ़कर कोई तत्त्व नहीं, गुरु से बढ़कर कोई तप नहीं और गुरु से बढ़कर कोई ज्ञान नहीं है। उन श्रीगुरुदेव को नमस्कार है।

English Meaning:
Salutations to Sri Guru. There is no Reality higher than the Guru, no austerity greater than devotion to the Guru, and no knowledge higher than the Guru’s wisdom.

श्लोक 78

mannāthaḥ śrījagannāthō madguruḥ śrījagadguruḥ ।
mamā”tmā sarvabhūtātmā tasmai śrīguravē namaḥ ॥ 78 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
मेरे नाथ ही श्रीजगन्नाथ हैं, मेरे गुरु ही श्रीजगद्गुरु हैं और मेरी आत्मा ही सभी प्राणियों की आत्मा है। उन श्रीगुरुदेव को नमस्कार है।

English Meaning:
Salutations to Sri Guru. My Lord is the Lord of the universe, my Guru is the Guru of the universe, and my own Self is the Self dwelling in all beings.

श्लोक 79

gururādiranādiścha guruḥ paramadaivatam ।
gurumantrasamō nāsti tasmai śrīguravē namaḥ ॥ 79 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गुरु ही आदि हैं और अनादि भी हैं; गुरु ही परम देवता हैं। गुरु-मंत्र के समान कोई अन्य मंत्र नहीं है। उन श्रीगुरुदेव को नमस्कार है।

English Meaning:
Salutations to Sri Guru, who is both the beginning and the beginningless, the supreme deity. There is no mantra equal to the Guru-mantra.

श्लोक 80

ēka ēva parō bandhurviṣamē samupasthitē ।
guruḥ sakaladharmātmā tasmai śrīguravē namaḥ ॥ 80 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
कठिन परिस्थिति में गुरु ही एकमात्र परम बंधु और सहारा हैं। जो समस्त धर्मों के सारस्वरूप हैं, उन श्रीगुरुदेव को नमस्कार है।

English Meaning:
Salutations to Sri Guru, the one supreme friend and refuge in times of difficulty, who embodies the essence of all dharma.

श्लोक 81

gurumadhyē sthitaṃ viśvaṃ viśvamadhyē sthitō guruḥ ।
gururviśvaṃ na chānyō’sti tasmai śrīguravē namaḥ ॥ 81 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
सम्पूर्ण विश्व गुरु में स्थित है और गुरु सम्पूर्ण विश्व में स्थित हैं। गुरु ही विश्व हैं; उनके अतिरिक्त कोई दूसरा नहीं है। उन श्रीगुरुदेव को नमस्कार है।

English Meaning:
Salutations to Sri Guru. The universe abides in the Guru, and the Guru abides in the universe. The Guru is the universe itself; there is no other Reality apart from Him.

श्लोक 82

bhavāraṇyapraviṣṭasya diṅmōhabhrāntachētasaḥ ।
yēna sandarśitaḥ panthāḥ tasmai śrīguravē namaḥ ॥ 82 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो संसाररूपी वन में भटकते हुए, दिशाओं के भ्रम से मोहित और भ्रमित चित्त वाले जीव को सही मार्ग दिखाते हैं, उन श्रीगुरुदेव को नमस्कार है।

tāpatrayāgnitaptānāmaśāntaprāṇināṃ mudē ।
gururēva parā gaṅgā tasmai śrīguravē namaḥ ॥ 83 ॥

आध्यात्मिक, आधिभौतिक और आधिदैविक तीनों तापों की अग्नि से संतप्त और अशांत प्राणियों के कल्याण के लिए गुरु ही परम गंगा के समान हैं। उन श्रीगुरुदेव को नमस्कार है।

Who can heal beings bitten by the serpent of ignorance? None but the Sadguru, who knows the great mantra of true knowledge.

श्लोक 85

hētavē jagatāmēva saṃsārārṇavasētavē ।
prabhavē sarvavidyānāṃ śambhavē guravē namaḥ ॥ 85 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो समस्त जगत् के कारण, संसार-सागर को पार करने के सेतु तथा सभी विद्याओं के स्रोत हैं, उन कल्याणस्वरूप गुरु को नमस्कार है।

Salutations to Guru, who is the cause of the universe, the bridge across the ocean of worldly existence, and the source of all knowledge.

श्लोक 86

dhyānamūlaṃ gurōrmūrtiḥ pūjāmūlaṃ gurōḥ padam ।
mantramūlaṃ gurōrvākyaṃ muktimūlaṃ gurōḥ kṛpā ॥ 86 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
ध्यान का मूल गुरु की मूर्ति है, पूजा का मूल गुरु के चरण हैं, मंत्र का मूल गुरु का वचन है और मुक्ति का मूल गुरु की कृपा है।

The foundation of meditation is the Guru’s form; the foundation of worship is the Guru’s feet; the foundation of mantra is the Guru’s word; and the foundation of liberation is the Guru’s grace.

श्लोक 87

saptasāgaraparyantatīrthasnānaphalaṃ tu yat ।
gurōḥ pādōdabindōścha sahasrāṃśē na tatphalam ॥ 87 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
सातों समुद्रों तक स्थित समस्त तीर्थों में स्नान करने से जो फल प्राप्त होता है, वह गुरु के चरणोदक की एक बूंद के सहस्रांश के बराबर भी नहीं है।

English Meaning:
The merit gained by bathing in all the sacred places extending to the seven oceans does not equal even a thousandth part of the merit of a single drop of the water associated with the Guru’s feet.

श्लोक 88

śivē ruṣṭē gurustrātā gurau ruṣṭē na kaśchana ।
labdhvā kulaguruṃ samyaggurumēva samāśrayēt ॥ 88 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
यदि शिव अप्रसन्न हों तो गुरु रक्षा कर सकते हैं; लेकिन यदि गुरु ही अप्रसन्न हों तो कोई रक्षा नहीं कर सकता। इसलिए योग्य कुलगुरु को प्राप्त करके साधक को उसी गुरु की शरण ग्रहण करनी चाहिए।

English Meaning:
If Shiva is displeased, the Guru can protect the seeker; but if the Guru Himself is displeased, no one can offer protection. Therefore, having found a worthy family or spiritual Guru, one should take refuge in that Guru.

श्लोक 89

madhulubdhō yathā bhṛṅgaḥ puṣpātpuṣpāntaraṃ vrajēt ।
jñānalubdhastathā śiṣyō gurōrgurvantaraṃ vrajēt ॥ 89 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिस प्रकार मधु का इच्छुक भौंरा एक फूल से दूसरे फूल की ओर जाता है, उसी प्रकार ज्ञान की खोज में लगा शिष्य एक गुरु से दूसरे गुरु की ओर जा सकता है।

English Meaning:
Just as a bee seeking honey moves from one flower to another, so a disciple who earnestly seeks knowledge may proceed from one Guru to another.

श्लोक 90

vandē gurupadadvandvaṃ vāṅmanātītagōcharam ।
śvētaraktaprabhābhinnaṃ śivaśaktyātmakaṃ param ॥ 90 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
मैं उन गुरु के युगल चरणों को प्रणाम करता हूँ, जो वाणी और मन की पहुँच से परे हैं, जिनकी दिव्य प्रभा श्वेत और रक्त वर्ण के भेद से प्रकट होती है और जो शिव-शक्ति के परम स्वरूप हैं।

English Meaning:
I bow to the twin feet of the Guru, beyond the reach of speech and mind, whose supreme radiance is distinguished by white and red brilliance and who embody Shiva and Shakti.

श्लोक 91

gukāraṃ cha guṇātītaṃ rūkāraṃ rūpavarjitam ।
guṇātītamarūpaṃ cha yō dadyātsa guruḥ smṛtaḥ ॥ 91 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
“गु” का अर्थ गुणों से परे और “रु” का अर्थ रूप से रहित माना गया है। जो साधक को गुणातीत और अरूप परम तत्त्व का ज्ञान प्रदान करते हैं, वे गुरु कहलाते हैं।

English Meaning:
“Gu” is understood as that which is beyond the qualities, while “Ru” signifies that which is beyond form. One who reveals the formless Reality beyond all qualities is known as the Guru.

श्लोक 92

atrinētraḥ śivaḥ sākṣāt dvibāhuścha hariḥ smṛtaḥ ।
yō’chaturvadanō brahmā śrīguruḥ kathitaḥ priyē ॥ 92 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे प्रिय! तीन नेत्रों वाले गुरु साक्षात् शिव हैं, दो भुजाओं वाले गुरु हरि के स्वरूप माने जाते हैं और चार मुखों के बिना भी गुरु ब्रह्मा के तत्त्व को धारण करते हैं। इस प्रकार श्रीगुरु को कहा गया है।

English Meaning:
O beloved, the Guru is directly Shiva in the form of three eyes, Hari in the form of two arms, and Brahma in essence even without four faces. Thus Sri Guru is described as embodying the Divine Trinity.

श्लोक 93

ayaṃ mayāñjalirbaddhō dayāsāgarasiddhayē ।
yadanugrahatō jantuśchitrasaṃsāramuktibhāk ॥ 93 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
करुणासागर सद्गुरु की सिद्धि और कृपा की प्राप्ति के लिए मैं यह अंजलि अर्पित करता हूँ, जिनकी कृपा से जीव इस विचित्र संसार के बंधन से मुक्त हो सकता है।

English Meaning:
With folded hands I offer this prayer to the ocean of compassion, the Guru, whose grace enables a being to attain liberation from the wondrous yet binding cycle of worldly existence.

श्लोक 94

śrīgurōḥ paramaṃ rūpaṃ vivēkachakṣuragrataḥ ।
mandabhāgyā na paśyanti andhāḥ sūryōdayaṃ yathā ॥ 94 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिनका विवेक रूपी नेत्र जागृत नहीं है, वे दुर्भाग्यवश श्रीगुरु के परम स्वरूप को नहीं देख पाते, जैसे अंधे व्यक्ति सूर्य के उदय को नहीं देख सकते।

English Meaning:
Those whose eye of discrimination has not awakened cannot perceive the supreme form of Sri Guru, just as the blind cannot see the rising sun.

श्लोक 95

kulānāṃ kulakōṭīnāṃ tārakastatra tat​kṣaṇāt ।
atastaṃ sadguruṃ jñātvā trikālamabhivādayēt ॥ 95 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
सद्गुरु असंख्य कुलों और पीढ़ियों का उसी क्षण उद्धार करने वाले हैं। इसलिए सद्गुरु के तत्त्व को जानकर तीनों कालों में उनका अभिवादन और वंदन करना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
The Sadguru is capable of liberating countless families and generations in an instant. Therefore, recognizing the true nature of the Sadguru, one should bow to Him at all three times of the day.

श्लोक 96

śrīnāthacharaṇadvandvaṃ yasyāṃ diśi virājatē ।
tasyāṃ diśi namaskuryāt bhaktyā pratidinaṃ priyē ॥ 96 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे प्रिय! जिस दिशा में श्रीनाथ के युगल चरण स्थित हैं, उस दिशा की ओर प्रतिदिन श्रद्धा और भक्ति से नमस्कार करना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
O beloved, one should lovingly and devotionally bow every day toward the direction in which the sacred twin feet of Sri Nath are present.

श्लोक 97

sāṣṭāṅgapraṇipātēna stuvannityaṃ guruṃ bhajēt ।
bhajanāt sthairyamāpnōti svasvarūpamayō bhavēt ॥ 97 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
साधक को प्रतिदिन अष्टांग प्रणाम करके गुरु की स्तुति और भक्ति करनी चाहिए। गुरु का भजन करने से मन में स्थिरता आती है और साधक अपने वास्तविक स्वरूप में स्थित होने लगता है।

English Meaning:
One should daily worship and praise the Guru with full prostration. Through devotion to the Guru, one gains steadiness and becomes established in one’s own true nature.

श्लोक 98

dōrbhyāṃ padbhyāṃ cha jānubhyāmurasā śirasā dṛśā ।
manasā vachasā chēti praṇāmō’ṣṭāṅga uchyatē ॥ 98 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
दोनों हाथों, दोनों पैरों, दोनों घुटनों, वक्षस्थल, सिर, दृष्टि, मन और वाणी—इन आठ अंगों से किया गया प्रणाम अष्टांग प्रणाम कहलाता है।

English Meaning:
A prostration made with the two hands, two feet, two knees, chest, head, eyes, mind and speech is called aṣṭāṅga prostration.

श्लोक 99

tasyai diśē satatamañjalirēṣa nityaṃ
prakṣipyatāṃ mukharitairmadhuraiḥ prasūnaiḥ ।
jāgarti yatra bhagavān guruchakravartī
viśvasthitipraḻayanāṭakanityasākṣī ॥ 99 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
उस दिशा की ओर नित्य यह अंजलि अर्पित की जाए और मधुर पुष्पों से भक्ति-भावपूर्वक पूजा की जाए, जहाँ भगवान् गुरुचक्रवर्ती जाग्रत स्वरूप में विराजते हैं और विश्व की स्थिति तथा प्रलय के नित्य साक्षी हैं।

English Meaning:
Let these offerings of folded hands and sweet flowers be made constantly toward that direction where the Divine Guru, the sovereign of the spiritual realm, abides as the eternal witness of the cosmic drama of creation, preservation and dissolution.

श्लोक 100

abhyastaiḥ kimu dīrghakālavimalairvyādhipradairduṣkaraiḥ
prāṇāyāmaśatairanēkakaraṇairduḥkhātmakairdurjayaiḥ ।
yasminnabhyuditē vinaśyati balī vāyuḥ svayaṃ tat​kṣaṇāt
prāptuṃ tatsahajasvabhāvamaniśaṃ sēvēta chaikaṃ gurum ॥ 100 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
दीर्घकाल तक किए जाने वाले कठिन और कष्टदायक सैकड़ों प्राणायाम तथा अनेक दुष्कर साधनों का क्या प्रयोजन, जब गुरु के ज्ञान का उदय होते ही प्रबल प्राणवायु स्वयं उसी क्षण शांत हो जाती है? उस सहज स्वभावरूप अवस्था को प्राप्त करने के लिए साधक को निरंतर एक गुरु की सेवा करनी चाहिए।

English Meaning:
What is the need for hundreds of difficult and painful practices of prolonged pranayama and other disciplines when, upon the awakening of the Guru’s knowledge, the powerful vital force itself becomes quiet in that very moment? To attain that natural state, one should constantly serve and follow the Guru.

श्लोक 101

jñānaṃ vinā muktipadaṃ labhyatē gurubhaktitaḥ ।
gurōssamānatō nānyat sādhanaṃ gurumārgiṇām ॥ 101 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गुरु की भक्ति से मुक्ति का पद प्राप्त हो सकता है और उसके लिए अलग से ज्ञान की आवश्यकता नहीं रहती। गुरु के मार्ग पर चलने वालों के लिए गुरु-भक्ति के समान कोई अन्य साधना नहीं है।

English Meaning:
Through devotion to the Guru, the state of liberation can be attained. For those who follow the Guru’s path, there is no spiritual practice equal to devotion to the Guru.

श्लोक 102

yasmātparataraṃ nāsti nēti nētīti vai śrutiḥ ।
manasā vachasā chaiva satyamārādhayēdgurum ॥ 102 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
श्रुति कहती है कि “यह नहीं, यह नहीं” कहकर जिस परम तत्त्व से आगे कुछ भी नहीं है, उसी परम सत्यस्वरूप गुरु की मन और वाणी से आराधना करनी चाहिए।

English Meaning:
The scriptures declare through “not this, not this” that there is nothing beyond the Supreme Reality. Therefore, one should sincerely worship the Guru with mind and speech as that Supreme Truth.

श्लोक 103

gurōḥ kṛpāprasādēna brahmaviṣṇumahēśvarāḥ ।
sāmarthyamabhajan sarvē sṛṣṭisthityantakarmaṇi ॥ 103 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गुरु की कृपा और प्रसाद से ही ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश्वर ने क्रमशः सृष्टि, स्थिति और संहार के कार्यों को करने की सामर्थ्य प्राप्त की।

English Meaning:
By the grace and blessing of the Guru, Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara received the power to perform the functions of creation, preservation and dissolution.

श्लोक 104

dēvakinnaragandharvāḥ pitṛyakṣāstu tumburaḥ ।
munayō’pi na jānanti guruśuśrūṣaṇē vidhim ॥ 104 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
देवता, किन्नर, गंधर्व, पितर, यक्ष, तुम्बुरु और यहाँ तक कि मुनि भी गुरु की सेवा करने की सही विधि को पूर्णतः नहीं जानते।

English Meaning:
Devas, Kinnaras, Gandharvas, ancestors, Yakshas, Tumburu, and even sages do not fully know the proper way of serving the Guru.

श्लोक 105

tārkikāśChāndasāśchaiva daivajñāḥ karmaṭhāḥ priyē ।
laukikāstē na jānanti gurutattvaṃ nirākulam ॥ 105 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे प्रिय! तर्कशास्त्र के विद्वान, वेदों के ज्ञाता, ज्योतिषी, कर्मकाण्डी और सांसारिक विद्वान भी गुरु के निर्मल और परम तत्त्व को नहीं जान पाते।

English Meaning:
O beloved, logicians, scholars of the Vedas, astrologers, ritualists and worldly learned people do not understand the pure and profound Reality of the Guru.

श्लोक 106

mahāhaṅkāragarvēṇa tatōvidyābalēna cha ।
bhramanti chāsmin saṃsārē ghaṭīyantraṃ yathā punaḥ ॥ 106 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
महान अहंकार के गर्व और विद्या के बल के कारण वे इस संसार में उसी प्रकार बार-बार भटकते रहते हैं जैसे घटियंत्र निरंतर घूमता रहता है।

English Meaning:
Driven by great pride in ego and the power of learning, they continue to wander repeatedly in this world, just as a water-wheel turns again and again.

श्लोक 107

yajñinō’pi na muktāḥ syuḥ na muktā yōginastathā ।
tāpasā api nō muktā gurutattvātparāṅmukhāḥ ॥ 107 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो गुरु-तत्त्व से विमुख हैं, वे यज्ञ करने वाले भी मुक्त नहीं होते, योगी भी मुक्त नहीं होते और तपस्वी भी मुक्ति प्राप्त नहीं करते।

English Meaning:
Those who turn away from the Reality of the Guru do not attain liberation, even if they are performers of sacrifices, yogis or ascetics.

श्लोक 108

na muktāstu cha gandharvāḥ pitṛyakṣāstu chāraṇāḥ ।
ṛṣayaḥ siddhadēvādyā gurusēvāparāṅmukhāḥ ॥ 108 ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो गुरु की सेवा से विमुख हैं, वे गंधर्व, पितर, यक्ष, चारण, ऋषि, सिद्ध और देवता आदि भी मुक्त नहीं होते।

English Meaning:
Gandharvas, ancestors, Yakshas, Charanas, Rishis, Siddhas, Devas and others who turn away from service to the Guru do not attain liberation.
