॥ iti śrīmahābhāratē udyōgaparvaṇi prajāgaraparvaṇi viduranītivākyē chatustriṃśō’dhyāyaḥ ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
इस प्रकार श्रीमहाभारत के उद्योगपर्व के प्रजागरपर्व में विदुरनीति-वाक्य का चौंतीसवाँ अध्याय समाप्त होता है।

English Meaning:
Thus ends the thirty-fourth chapter of Vidura’s teachings in the Prajagara Parva of the Udyoga Parva of the Śrī Mahābhārata.

dhṛtarāṣṭra uvācha ।
jāgratō dahyamānasya yatkāryamanupaśyasi ।
tadbrūhi tvaṃ hi nastāta dharmārthakuśalaḥ śuchiḥ ॥ 1॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा—हे तात विदुर! मैं चिंता और व्याकुलता से जल रहा हूँ और जागता हुआ कष्ट पा रहा हूँ। ऐसी स्थिति में जो कार्य तुम्हें उचित दिखाई देता है, वह मुझे बताओ। तुम धर्म और अर्थ के ज्ञाता तथा पवित्र आचरण वाले हो।

English Meaning:
Dhritarashtra said: O dear Vidura, I am tormented by anxiety and remain wakeful in distress. Tell me what course of action you see as proper in this situation, for you are wise in matters of dharma and worldly welfare and are pure in conduct.

tvaṃ māṃ yathāvadvidura praśādhi
prajñā pūrvaṃ sarvamajātaśatrōḥ ।
yanmanyasē pathyamadīnasattva
śrēyaḥ karaṃ brūhi tadvai kurūṇām ॥ 2॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे विदुर! अपनी बुद्धि और विवेक से मुझे उचित मार्ग दिखाओ। अजातशत्रु युधिष्ठिर तथा पाण्डवों के विषय में जो कुछ तुम उचित, हितकारी और कल्याणकारी समझते हो, उसे मुझे बताओ। कुरुवंश के लिए जो श्रेष्ठ हो, वही कहो।

English Meaning:
O Vidura, guide me properly with your wisdom and discernment. Tell me what you consider wholesome and beneficial regarding Ajatashatru Yudhishthira and the Pandavas. Speak that which will bring welfare to the Kurus.

pāpāśaṅgī pāpamēva naupaśyan
pṛchChāmi tvāṃ vyākulēnātmanāham ।
kavē tanmē brūhi sarvaṃ yathāvan
manīṣitaṃ sarvamajātaśatrōḥ ॥ 3॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
मैं पाप की आशंका से व्याकुल हूँ और हर ओर अनिष्ट की संभावना देख रहा हूँ। इसलिए चिंतित मन से तुमसे पूछता हूँ। हे बुद्धिमान विदुर! अजातशत्रु के विषय में जो कुछ तुम अपने विवेक से उचित समझते हो, वह सब मुझे ठीक-ठीक बताओ।

English Meaning:
I am troubled by the fear of wrongdoing and see danger all around. Therefore, with an anxious mind, I ask you. O wise Vidura, tell me clearly all that your understanding considers proper concerning Ajatashatru.

vidura uvācha ।
śubhaṃ vā yadi vā pāpaṃ dvēṣyaṃ vā yadi vā priyam ।
apṛṣṭastasya tadbrūyādyasya nēchChētparābhavam ॥ 4॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
विदुर ने कहा—जो व्यक्ति किसी का पतन या पराजय नहीं चाहता, उसे चाहिए कि वह बिना पूछे भी उसके हित में शुभ या अशुभ, प्रिय या अप्रिय सत्य बात कह दे।

English Meaning:
Vidura said: One who does not desire another’s downfall should speak what is beneficial to him, whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, auspicious or cautionary, even when he has not been asked.

tasmādvakṣyāmi tē rājanbhavamichChankurūnprati ।
vachaḥ śrēyaḥ karaṃ dharmyaṃ bruvatastannibōdha mē ॥ 5॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे राजन्! इसलिए मैं कुरुवंश के प्रति कल्याण की भावना रखते हुए तुम्हें ऐसी बातें बताऊँगा जो धर्मसम्मत और हितकारी हैं। उन्हें ध्यानपूर्वक सुनो।

English Meaning:
Therefore, O King, wishing welfare for the Kurus, I shall speak words that are righteous and beneficial. Listen to them carefully.

mithyōpētāni karmāṇi sidhyēyuryāni bhārata ।
anupāya prayuktāni mā sma tēṣu manaḥ kṛthāḥ ॥ 6॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे भरतवंशी! जो कार्य उचित उपायों के बिना केवल गलत ढंग से किए जाते हैं, वे सफल नहीं होते। इसलिए ऐसे निरुपाय प्रयासों में अपना मन मत लगाओ।

English Meaning:
O descendant of Bharata, actions undertaken without proper means and strategy do not succeed. Therefore, do not set your mind upon efforts that lack the right method.

tathaiva yōgavihitaṃ na sidhyētkarma yannṛpa ।
upāyayuktaṃ mēdhāvī na tatra glapayēnmanaḥ ॥ 7॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे राजन्! जो कार्य उचित साधनों और उपायों से रहित होकर किया जाए, वह सफल नहीं होता। बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति उचित उपायों से युक्त कार्य में अपने मन को निराश या शिथिल नहीं होने देता।

English Meaning:
O King, an undertaking that lacks proper means and strategy cannot succeed. A wise person does not allow his mind to become discouraged when pursuing an undertaking supported by proper methods.

anubandhānavēkṣēta sānubandhēṣu karmasu ।
sampradhārya cha kurvīta na vēgēna samācharēt ॥ 8॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
मनुष्य को किसी भी कार्य के परिणाम और उससे जुड़े प्रभावों पर विचार करना चाहिए। अच्छी तरह सोच-विचार करके ही कार्य करना चाहिए; जल्दबाजी में कोई काम नहीं करना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
One should carefully consider the consequences and related effects of every undertaking. Actions should be performed after thoughtful deliberation, never in haste.

anubandhaṃ cha samprēkṣya vipākāṃśchaiva karmaṇām ।
utthānamātmanaśchaiva dhīraḥ kurvīta vā na vā ॥ 9॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
धीर पुरुष को कार्य के परिणाम, उसके दूरगामी प्रभाव और अपनी सामर्थ्य—इन सबका विचार करके ही यह निश्चय करना चाहिए कि कार्य करना है या नहीं।

English Meaning:
A wise and steady person should consider the consequences, future results, and his own capacity before deciding whether an undertaking should be pursued or abandoned.

yaḥ pramāṇaṃ na jānāti sthānē vṛddhau tathā kṣayē ।
kōśē janapadē daṇḍē na sa rājyāvatiṣṭhatē ॥ 10॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो राजा राज्य की स्थिति, उसकी वृद्धि और क्षय, राजकोष, प्रजा तथा दण्डनीति की उचित सीमा और शक्ति को नहीं जानता, वह राज्य को स्थिर रूप से नहीं चला सकता।

English Meaning:
A king who does not understand the condition of his kingdom, its growth and decline, the treasury, the people, and the proper use of authority cannot maintain his kingdom securely.

yastvētāni pramāṇāni yathōktānyanupaśyati ।
yuktō dharmārthayōrjñānē sa rājyamadhigachChati ॥ 11॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो व्यक्ति इन सभी बातों का यथार्थ ज्ञान रखता है और धर्म तथा अर्थ के उचित ज्ञान से युक्त है, वही राज्य को प्राप्त करके उसका योग्यतापूर्वक संचालन कर सकता है।

English Meaning:
He who understands all these matters correctly and possesses sound knowledge of dharma and artha attains a kingdom and is capable of governing it properly.

na rājyaṃ prāptamityēva vartitavyamasāmpratam ।
śriyaṃ hyavinayō hanti jarā rūpamivōttamam ॥ 12॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
केवल यह सोचकर कि राज्य प्राप्त हो गया है, अनुचित आचरण नहीं करना चाहिए। जैसे वृद्धावस्था उत्तम रूप को नष्ट कर देती है, वैसे ही अविनय और अहंकार समृद्धि को नष्ट कर देते हैं।

English Meaning:
One should not behave improperly merely because one has obtained a kingdom. Just as old age destroys even excellent beauty, lack of discipline and arrogance destroy prosperity.

bhakṣyōttama pratichChannaṃ matsyō baḍiśamāyasam ।
rūpābhipātī grasatē nānubandhamavēkṣatē ॥ 13॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
मछली स्वादिष्ट भोजन से ढके हुए लोहे के काँटे को उसके आकर्षक रूप के कारण निगल जाती है और उसके परिणाम पर विचार नहीं करती। इसी प्रकार मनुष्य भी बाहरी आकर्षण देखकर परिणाम की उपेक्षा कर सकता है।

English Meaning:
A fish swallows an iron hook concealed beneath tempting food, attracted by its appearance without considering the consequence. In the same way, a person may be deceived by outward attractiveness and fail to consider the result.

yachChakyaṃ grasituṃ grasyaṃ grastaṃ pariṇamēchcha yat ।
hitaṃ cha pariṇāmē yattadadyaṃ bhūtimichChatā ॥ 14॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो वस्तु उचित मात्रा में ग्रहण की जा सके और जिसे ग्रहण करने के बाद उसका परिणाम भी हितकारी हो, समृद्धि चाहने वाले मनुष्य को आज वही ग्रहण करना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
One who desires prosperity should accept today only that which can be properly taken in and which, once assimilated, produces a beneficial result.

vanaspatērapakvāni phalāni prachinōti yaḥ ।
sa nāpnōti rasaṃ tēbhyō bījaṃ chāsya vinaśyati ॥ 15॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो व्यक्ति वृक्ष के कच्चे फलों को तोड़ लेता है, उसे उनसे पूरा रस प्राप्त नहीं होता और उन फलों के बीज भी नष्ट हो जाते हैं।

English Meaning:
He who plucks unripe fruits from a tree does not obtain their full sweetness, and the seeds within them are also lost.

yastu pakvamupādattē kālē pariṇataṃ phalam ।
phalādrasaṃ sa labhatē bījāchchaiva phalaṃ punaḥ ॥ 16॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
लेकिन जो व्यक्ति समय आने पर पके हुए फल को ग्रहण करता है, उसे फल का पूरा रस मिलता है और उसके बीज से फिर नया फल भी प्राप्त किया जा सकता है।

English Meaning:
But one who takes a fruit only after it has ripened at the proper time obtains its full sweetness and can again obtain another fruit from its seed.

yathā madhu samādattē rakṣanpuṣpāṇi ṣaṭpadaḥ ।
tadvadarthānmanuṣyēbhya ādadyādavihiṃsayā ॥ 17॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिस प्रकार भौंरा फूलों को नष्ट किए बिना उनसे मधु ग्रहण करता है, उसी प्रकार राजा को भी प्रजा को कष्ट पहुँचाए बिना उनसे धन और राजस्व प्राप्त करना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
Just as a bee gathers honey while preserving the flowers, so should a ruler obtain wealth and revenue from people without causing them harm.

puṣpaṃ puṣpaṃ vichinvīta mūlachChēdaṃ na kārayēt ।
mālākāra ivārāmē na yathāṅgārakārakaḥ ॥ 18॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
माली जिस प्रकार एक-एक फूल चुनता है और पौधे की जड़ नहीं काटता, उसी प्रकार राजा को धीरे-धीरे संसाधन प्राप्त करने चाहिए; उसे ऐसा नहीं करना चाहिए जैसे कोई कोयला बनाने वाला पूरा वृक्ष ही काट डालता है।

English Meaning:
A ruler should gather resources flower by flower, like a gardener who does not cut the roots of the plants, and not act like a charcoal-maker who destroys the entire tree.

kiṃ nu mē syādidaṃ kṛtvā kiṃ nu mē syādakurvataḥ ।
iti karmāṇi sañchintya kuryādvā puruṣō na vā ॥ 19॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
मनुष्य को प्रत्येक कार्य से पहले विचार करना चाहिए—“इसे करने से मुझे क्या प्राप्त होगा और न करने से क्या होगा?” इस प्रकार परिणामों पर विचार करके ही कार्य करना चाहिए या उसे छोड़ देना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
Before undertaking an action, a person should consider, “What will result if I do this, and what will result if I do not?” After weighing the consequences, he should decide whether to act.

anārabhyā bhavantyarthāḥ kē chinnityaṃ tathāgatāḥ ।
kṛtaḥ puruṣakārō’pi bhavēdyēṣu nirarthakaḥ ॥ 20॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
कुछ कार्य ऐसे होते हैं जो बिना प्रयास के भी समय के साथ अपने आप पूरे हो जाते हैं। कुछ ऐसे भी होते हैं जिनमें मनुष्य का प्रयास करने पर भी कोई लाभ नहीं होता।

English Meaning:
Some objectives are accomplished without being undertaken, simply through the course of time; and in some matters, even human effort may prove fruitless.

kāṃśchidarthānnaraḥ prājñō labhu mūlānmahāphalān ।
kṣipramārabhatē kartuṃ na vighnayati tādṛśān ॥ 21॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
बुद्धिमान मनुष्य ऐसे कार्यों को शीघ्र आरम्भ करता है जिनमें कम साधनों से बड़े फल की प्राप्ति हो सकती है और जिनमें अनावश्यक बाधाएँ नहीं आतीं।

English Meaning:
A wise person quickly undertakes those endeavors in which great results can be gained from modest means and which are not likely to encounter unnecessary obstacles.

ṛju paśyati yaḥ sarvaṃ chakṣuṣānupibanniva ।
āsīnamapi tūṣṇīkamanurajyanti taṃ prajāḥ ॥ 22॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो व्यक्ति सब कुछ स्पष्ट और सरल दृष्टि से देखता है, मानो अपनी आँखों से सब कुछ ग्रहण कर रहा हो, उसकी ओर लोग आकर्षित होते हैं। वह मौन बैठा हो तब भी प्रजा उससे प्रेम करती है।

English Meaning:
People are drawn to one who sees everything clearly and straightforwardly, as though absorbing it with his own eyes. Even when such a person sits silently, people are naturally inclined toward him.

chakṣuṣā manasā vāchā karmaṇā cha chaturvidham ।
prasādayati lōkaṃ yastaṃ lōkō’nuprasīdati ॥ 23॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो व्यक्ति अपनी दृष्टि, मन, वाणी और कर्म—इन चारों से लोगों को प्रसन्न करता है, संसार भी उसके प्रति प्रसन्न और अनुकूल हो जाता है।

English Meaning:
One who pleases people through his eyes, mind, speech, and actions becomes loved and supported by the people in return.

yasmāttrasyanti bhūtāni mṛgavyādhānmṛgā iva ।
sāgarāntāmapi mahīṃ labdhvā sa parihīyatē ॥ 24॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जिस शासक से प्राणी उसी प्रकार भयभीत हों जैसे हिरण शिकारी से भयभीत होते हैं, वह समुद्र से घिरी पूरी पृथ्वी का राज्य प्राप्त कर लेने पर भी अंततः पतन को प्राप्त होता है।

English Meaning:
A ruler from whom living beings flee as deer flee from a hunter will ultimately decline, even if he has obtained dominion over the entire earth bounded by the oceans.

pitṛpaitāmahaṃ rājyaṃ prāptavānsvēna tējasā ।
vāyurabhramivāsādya bhraṃśayatyanayē sthitaḥ ॥ 25॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो व्यक्ति अपने पूर्वजों से प्राप्त राज्य को अपने ही तेज और शक्ति से प्राप्त मानकर अन्याय के मार्ग पर चलता है, वह उसे उसी प्रकार नष्ट कर देता है जैसे प्रचंड वायु बादलों को तितर-बितर कर देती है।

English Meaning:
One who, having received an ancestral kingdom, relies on his own power and follows the path of unrighteousness causes it to fall apart, just as a strong wind scatters clouds.

dharmamācharatō rājñaḥ sadbhiścharitamāditaḥ ।
vasudhā vasusampūrṇā vardhatē bhūtivardhanī ॥ 26॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो राजा श्रेष्ठ पुरुषों द्वारा आचरण किए गए धर्म का पालन करता है, उसके राज्य की पृथ्वी धन-सम्पदा से भरपूर होकर निरंतर समृद्ध होती जाती है।

English Meaning:
For a king who follows dharma as practiced by the virtuous, the earth of his kingdom becomes filled with wealth and continually increases in prosperity.

atha santyajatō dharmamadharmaṃ chānutiṣṭhataḥ ।
pratisaṃvēṣṭatē bhūmiragnau charmāhitaṃ yathā ॥ 27॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
लेकिन जो राजा धर्म को छोड़कर अधर्म का आचरण करता है, उसके राज्य की समृद्धि उसी प्रकार सिकुड़ जाती है जैसे अग्नि में पड़ा चमड़ा सिकुड़ जाता है।

English Meaning:
But when a king abandons dharma and follows unrighteousness, the prosperity of his kingdom contracts, just as leather shrinks when placed in fire.

ya ēva yatnaḥ kriyatē prara rāṣṭrāvamardanē ।
sa ēva yatnaḥ kartavyaḥ svarāṣṭra paripālanē ॥ 28॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
दूसरे राज्य को नष्ट करने के लिए जितना प्रयास किया जाता है, उतना ही प्रयास अपने राज्य की रक्षा और सुव्यवस्था के लिए भी किया जाना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
The same effort that is made to overpower or destroy another kingdom should be devoted to protecting and properly governing one’s own kingdom.

dharmēṇa rājyaṃ vindēta dharmēṇa paripālayēt ।
dharmamūlāṃ śriyaṃ prāpya na jahāti na hīyatē ॥ 29॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
राज्य को धर्म के द्वारा प्राप्त करना चाहिए और धर्म के द्वारा ही उसका पालन करना चाहिए। धर्म पर आधारित समृद्धि प्राप्त करने वाला व्यक्ति उसे न तो त्यागता है और न ही उससे वंचित होता है।

English Meaning:
A kingdom should be acquired through dharma and governed through dharma. One who gains prosperity rooted in righteousness neither abandons it nor loses it.

apyunmattātpralapatō bālāchcha parisarpataḥ ।
sarvataḥ sāramādadyādaśmabhya iva kāñchanam ॥ 30॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
बुद्धिमान मनुष्य को चाहिए कि वह मदोन्मत्त व्यक्ति की बातों, बालक की बातों और इधर-उधर घूमने वालों की बातों में से भी उपयोगी सार ग्रहण करे, जैसे पत्थरों के बीच से सोना निकाला जाता है।

English Meaning:
A wise person should extract useful wisdom even from the words of the intoxicated, the child, or those who wander about, just as gold may be extracted from stones.

suvyāhṛtāni sudhiyāṃ sukṛtāni tatastataḥ ।
sañchinvandhīra āsīta śilā hārī śilaṃ yathā ॥ 31॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
धीर और बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति को विद्वानों द्वारा विभिन्न स्थानों पर कही गई उत्तम बातों और किए गए अच्छे कार्यों से सार ग्रहण करते रहना चाहिए, जैसे पत्थर चुनने वाला व्यक्ति एक-एक पत्थर एकत्र करता है।

English Meaning:
A wise and steady person should gather good words and noble examples from learned people wherever they are found, just as one who collects stones gathers them one by one.

gandhēna gāvaḥ paśyanti vēdaiḥ paśyanti brāhmaṇāḥ ।
chāraiḥ paśyanti rājānaśchakṣurbhyāmitarē janāḥ ॥ 32॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
गायें गंध से पहचानती हैं, ब्राह्मण वेदों के ज्ञान से देखते हैं, राजा अपने गुप्तचरों के द्वारा परिस्थितियों को समझते हैं और सामान्य लोग अपनी आँखों से देखते हैं।

English Meaning:
Cows perceive through smell; Brahmins perceive through the knowledge of the Vedas; kings perceive through their spies; and ordinary people perceive through their eyes.

bhūyāṃsaṃ labhatē klēśaṃ yā gaurbhavati durduhā ।
atha yā suduhā rājannaiva tāṃ vinayantyapi ॥ 33॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
हे राजन्! जो गाय ठीक प्रकार से दूध नहीं देती, उसे दुहने वाला अधिक कष्ट पाता है। इसके विपरीत, जो गाय अच्छी तरह दूध देती है, उसे कोई कष्ट नहीं देता। इसी प्रकार प्रजा के साथ भी उचित व्यवहार करना चाहिए।

English Meaning:
O King, one who tries to milk a cow that gives little milk undergoes greater hardship, whereas a cow that yields milk well is treated with care. Likewise, a ruler should deal wisely and properly with his people.

yadataptaṃ praṇamati na tatsantāpayantyapi ।
yachcha svayaṃ nataṃ dāru na tatsannāmayantyapi ॥ 34॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो वस्तु बिना तपाए स्वयं झुक जाती है, उसे और अधिक तपाने की आवश्यकता नहीं होती। जो लकड़ी स्वयं झुक गई हो, उसे फिर से मोड़ने की आवश्यकता नहीं होती।

English Meaning:
That which bends without being heated need not be subjected to further heat. Wood that has already bent of itself does not need to be bent again.

ētayōpamayā dhīraḥ sannamēta balīyasē ।
indrāya sa praṇamatē namatē yō balīyasē ॥ 35॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
इस उपमा से शिक्षा लेकर बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति को अपने से अधिक शक्तिशाली के सामने उचित समय पर विनम्र होना चाहिए। जो बलवान के सामने झुकता है, वह मानो इन्द्र के सामने प्रणाम करता है।

English Meaning:
Learning from this example, a wise person should appropriately bow before one who is stronger. One who humbly yields before the powerful is said to bow before Indra himself.

parjanyanāthāḥ paśavō rājānō mitra bāndhavāḥ ।
patayō bāndhavāḥ strīṇāṃ brāhmaṇā vēda bāndhavāḥ ॥ 36॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
पशुओं के स्वामी और रक्षक वर्षा हैं; राजाओं के लिए मित्र और संबंधी सहायक होते हैं; स्त्रियों के लिए उनके पति उनके संबंधी और आश्रय हैं; और ब्राह्मणों के लिए वेद उनके परम संबंधी हैं।

English Meaning:
Rain is the support of animals; friends and relatives are the support of kings; husbands are the support and kin of women; and the Vedas are the closest support of Brahmins.

satyēna rakṣyatē dharmō vidyā yōgēna rakṣyatē ।
mṛjayā rakṣyatē rūpaṃ kulaṃ vṛttēna rakṣyatē ॥ 37॥

धर्म की रक्षा सत्य से होती है, विद्या की रक्षा साधना और अभ्यास से होती है, रूप की रक्षा स्वच्छता से होती है और कुल की प्रतिष्ठा उत्तम आचरण से सुरक्षित रहती है।

Dharma is protected by truth; learning is preserved through disciplined practice; beauty is maintained through cleanliness; and the honor of a family is preserved through good conduct.

mānēna rakṣyatē dhānyamaśvānrakṣyatyanukramaḥ ।
abhīkṣṇadarśanādgāvaḥ striyō rakṣyāḥ kuchēlataḥ ॥ 38॥

Arrows of speech shoot forth from the mouth, and those struck by them may grieve day and night. They pierce the vital points of another’s heart. Therefore, a wise person should never release such arrows against others.

buddhau kaluṣa bhūtāyāṃ vināśē pratyupasthitē ।

O descendant of Bharata, this very kind of impaired judgment has overtaken your sons. Their hostility toward the Pandavas has clouded their understanding, yet you do not recognize it.

rājā lakṣaṇasampannastrailōkyasyāpi yō bhavēt ।
śiṣyastē śāsitā sō’stu dhṛtarāṣṭra yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ॥ 81॥

हे धृतराष्ट्र! युधिष्ठिर में एक आदर्श राजा के सभी लक्षण विद्यमान हैं और वह तीनों लोकों के राज्य का भी अधिकारी हो सकता है। अतः वही तुम्हारा शिष्य और उचित मार्गदर्शक राजा बने।

O Dhritarashtra, Yudhishthira possesses the qualities of an ideal king and could even be worthy of sovereignty over the three worlds. Let him be your disciple and the ruler who follows righteous discipline.
