Gayatri Mantram Ghanapatham

ō-mbhūrbhuva̠ssuva̠ḥ tathsa̍vi̠turvarē̎ṇyaṃ̠ bhargō̍ dē̠vasya̍ dhīmahi । dhiyō̠ yō na̍ḥ prachōdayā̎t ॥

We meditate upon the divine radiance of Savitṛ, the supreme and adorable source of light that pervades the three realms—earth, atmosphere and heaven. May that divine light inspire and guide our intellects.

ō-ntathsa̍vi̠tu – ssavi̠tu – statta̠thsa̍vi̠turvarē̎ṇya̠ṃ varē̎ṇyagṃ savi̠tu stattathsa̍vi̠turvarē̎ṇyam ।

We contemplate that supreme and most worthy divine Savitṛ. May the radiant presence of Savitṛ, the divine source of illumination, be established within our meditation and understanding.

sa̠vi̠turvarē̎ṇya̠ṃ varē̎ṇyagṃ savi̠tu-ssa̍vi̠turvarē̎ṇya-mbhargō̠ bhargō̠ varē̎ṇyagṃ savi̠tu-ssa̍vitu̠rvarē̎ṇya̠-mbharga̍ḥ ।

We meditate upon the most excellent and worthy radiance of Savitṛ. That divine light is pure, luminous and worthy of our highest contemplation.

varē̎ṇya̠-mbhargō̠ bhargō̠ varē̎ṇya̠ṃ varē̎ṇya̠-mbhargō̍ dē̠vasya̍ dē̠vasya̠ bhargō̠ varē̎ṇya̠ṃ varē̎ṇya̠-mbhargō̍ dē̠vasya̍ ।

We meditate upon the supreme divine radiance, the most worthy and exalted light of the Divine. May this sacred radiance illuminate and purify our inner being.

bhargō̍ dē̠vasya̍ dē̠vasya̠ bhargō̠ bhargō̍ dē̠vasya̍ dhīmahi dhīmahi dē̠vasya̠ bhargō̠ bhargō̍ dē̠vasya̍ dhīmahi ।

We meditate upon the divine radiance of the Supreme Being. May that sacred light fill our meditation and remove darkness from our understanding.

dē̠vasya̍ dhīmahi dhīmahi dē̠vasya̍ dē̠vasya̍ dhīmahi । dhī̠ma̠hīti̍ dhīmahi ।

We meditate upon the Divine. Through meditation upon that divine radiance, may our minds become illumined and directed toward higher wisdom.

dhiyō̠ yō yō dhiyō̠ dhiyō̠ yō nō̍ nō̠ yō dhiyō̠ dhiyō̠ yōna̍ḥ ॥

May that Divine Being inspire our intellects and guide our thoughts. May our understanding be directed toward truth, wisdom and righteousness.

yō 0nō̍ nō̠ yō yōna̍ḥ prachō̠dayā̎tprachō̠dayā̎nnō̠ yō yōna̍ḥ prachō̠dayā̎t ।

May that Divine Being inspire and guide us. May the divine light awaken our intellect and lead our thoughts toward the highest understanding.

na̠ḥ pra̠chō̠dayā̎-tprachō̠dayā̎nnō naḥ prachō̠dayā̎t । pra̠chō̠dayā̠diti̍ pra-chō̠dayā̎t ।

May that divine presence inspire us and guide our intellects. May our minds be illuminated and encouraged to follow the path of wisdom and truth.

ō-mbhūḥ । ō-mbhuvaḥ । ōgṃ suvaḥ । ō-mmahaḥ । ō-ñjanaḥ । ō-ntapaḥ । ōgṃ sa̠tyam ।

Om Bhūḥ, Om Bhuvaḥ, Om Suvaḥ, Om Mahaḥ, Om Janaḥ, Om Tapaḥ, Om Satyam. These seven sacred utterances invoke the seven higher planes or levels of existence, culminating in Satyam, the realm of truth.

dhiyō̠ yō na̍ḥ prachōdayā̎t ॥

We meditate upon the adorable divine radiance of Savitṛ. May that Supreme Divine Light illuminate and inspire our intellects.

ōmāpō̠ jyōtī̠ rasō̠-‘mṛta̠-mbrahma̠ bhū-rbhuva̠-ssuva̠rōm ॥

Om. The Divine is water, light, essence and immortality. Brahman is present throughout Bhūḥ, Bhuvaḥ and Suvaḥ. Om.
