I Learnt The Biggest Lesson…
Look around optimistically and you will be ‘priced’ with precious life-lessons… Who said a poor street boy who thrives on a loaf of bread cannot be your ‘teacher’??? Dr Derrick Angelsz writes what he experienced…what he learnt when he landed in India’s own Mumbai… The article is sourced from Sri Sathya Sai Newsletter, Pune…originally from the internet.. academictips.org/blogs/ (the banner image is sourced from the internet and does not bear any link with the story)
A few days ago I landed at the Mumbai Airport and took a cab to my scheduled destination in South Mumbai.
I was enjoying the busy traffic with people rushing in every possible directon when we got stranded at a very busy intersection. As we waited for the signal to turn green, my eyes saw a poor young boy, about 12 years old. He removed a piece of bread from his pocket and took a bite.
As he was about to take his next bite, a stray dog wagged his tail looking at him. Without hesitation, he sat down and put the bread on the road for the dog to eat.
The dog sniffed the bread and walked away. The boy waited until he was sure the dog was gone then he picked up the bread and ate it! My heart cried and I wanted to walk up to the boy but before I could open the door the signal turned green and our car drove away. I kept thinking about the boy and later during my evening meal I realised that I was thinking of approaching the boy but I never did, I could have stopped the car and walked up to him which again I never did.
All I did was ‘thinking’ and this poor little boy who had only one piece of bread, without any hesitation shared it with the dog, though he himself seemed to be very hungry.
I learnt one of the biggest lessons in my life which that boy taught me without a conversation. He taught me to share with love and happiness. I am so blessed to have learnt this beautiful lesson from my ‘little unknown master’. It is my moral duty to share this incident with all my friends across the globe and be blessed with happiness.

I Learnt The Biggest Lesson – A Journey from Experience to Wisdom
I Learnt The Biggest Lesson is a deeply meaningful thought because real wisdom often comes through personal experience. Books can guide us, elders can advise us, and spiritual teachings can inspire us, but some truths become clear only when life itself teaches them. Such lessons may come through joy, pain, failure, love, loss, or silent reflection, and once they enter the heart, they change the way we live.
Life is a patient teacher. It does not always explain everything at once. Sometimes it repeats the same situation until we understand what we have been ignoring. A person may keep running behind praise, success, comfort, or control, only to realize later that none of these can give lasting peace. The heart learns slowly that outer achievements are useful, but inner balance is more precious.
I Learnt The Biggest Lesson when I understood that every experience carries a message. What hurts us can also shape us. What disappoints us can also awaken us. What we lose can teach us what truly matters. Pain becomes lighter when we stop seeing it only as punishment and begin seeing it as a teacher that pushes us toward maturity.
One of the greatest lessons in life is that people and situations are not always in our control. We may plan carefully, love sincerely, work honestly, and still face unexpected results. This can feel painful at first, but it teaches surrender. Surrender does not mean weakness. It means doing our duty with sincerity and accepting that a higher wisdom guides life beyond our limited understanding.
I Learnt The Biggest Lesson also through relationships. We often expect others to understand us completely, behave exactly as we wish, and never hurt us. But every person carries his own struggles, fears, habits, and limitations. When we understand this, we become less harsh. We learn to forgive, to listen, and to protect our peace without filling the heart with bitterness.
Another important lesson is that words matter. A harsh sentence can wound someone for years, while a kind word can give courage at the right time. Many conflicts begin not because love is absent, but because patience is missing. If we learn to control the tongue, many regrets can be avoided. Silence, when chosen with wisdom, can become a form of strength.
I Learnt The Biggest Lesson when I saw that ego creates unnecessary suffering. Ego wants to be right, praised, remembered, and obeyed. It turns small matters into big conflicts. It makes apology difficult and forgiveness delayed. But humility brings freedom. A humble person can accept mistakes, learn from others, and remain peaceful even when he is not placed at the center.
Life also teaches that service is one of the purest forms of happiness. When we think only about ourselves, the mind becomes narrow and restless. But when we help someone sincerely, even in a small way, the heart expands. A simple act of kindness can bring more joy than selfish success. Service reminds us that we are connected with others and that love becomes meaningful only when it is expressed.
I Learnt The Biggest Lesson by realizing that time is precious. Many people postpone love, prayer, forgiveness, gratitude, and good actions. They think there will always be another day. But life is uncertain. A moment once gone does not return. Therefore, we should not wait too long to speak kindly, correct ourselves, help others, or turn toward God. The right time to do good is now.
Spiritual wisdom teaches that the greatest change must begin within. We often want the world to become better, people to become kinder, and circumstances to become easier. But the real question is: are we becoming better ourselves? Are our thoughts cleaner? Are our actions more honest? Are our words gentler? When inner change begins, life becomes more peaceful even if the outer world remains imperfect.
I Learnt The Biggest Lesson from silence too. In silence, we meet ourselves honestly. We see our fears, desires, mistakes, and hopes without the noise of the world. Silence is not emptiness; it is a mirror. It shows us where we are restless and where we need healing. A few moments of sincere reflection can guide us more deeply than hours of distraction.
Faith becomes stronger after life’s lessons are understood. We may not receive everything we ask for, but we often receive what helps us grow. Some delays protect us. Some failures humble us. Some separations teach us strength. Some prayers are answered quietly, not by changing the situation, but by changing our heart.
In the end, I Learnt The Biggest Lesson is a reminder that wisdom is born when experience meets reflection. Life will continue to test, teach, and guide us, but every sincere seeker can grow through it. The biggest lesson is to live with love, humility, faith, and awareness. When we learn from every moment and keep the heart connected to truth, even ordinary life becomes a sacred journey.
