śrībhagavānuvācha ।
jñānaṃ paramaguhyaṃ mē yadvijñānasamanvitam ।
sarahasyaṃ tadaṅgaṃ cha gṛhāṇa gaditaṃ mayā ॥ 1 ॥
The Supreme Lord said: The knowledge I am about to impart to you is
the most confidential and profound spiritual knowledge, together
with its direct realization and its essential mysteries. Receive
this teaching that I have spoken to you.
yāvānahaṃ yathābhāvō yadrūpaguṇakarmakaḥ ।
tathaiva tattvavijñānamastu tē madanugrahāt ॥ 2 ॥
By My grace, may you truly understand Me as I am, My nature, My
transcendental form, My qualities and My divine activities.
May this realization become established in your spiritual knowledge.
ahamēvāsamēvāgrē nānyadyatsadasatparam ।
paśchādahaṃ yadētachcha yō’vaśiṣyēta sō’smyaham ॥ 3 ॥
Before creation, I alone existed, and nothing else existed beyond
Me, whether manifest or unmanifest. After creation, I am present
within all that exists, and when everything else has disappeared,
I alone remain.
ṛtē’rthaṃ yatpratīyēta na pratīyēta chātmani ।
tadvidyādātmanō māyāṃ yathā’bhāsō yathā tamaḥ ॥ 4 ॥
Whatever appears to exist apart from the Supreme Reality, or
whatever appears different from the Self, should be understood as
the Lord’s Māyā. It is like an appearance or darkness that obscures
the true nature of Reality.
yathā mahānti bhūtāni bhūtēṣūchchāvachēṣvanu ।
praviṣṭānyapraviṣṭāni tathā tēṣu na tēṣvaham ॥ 5 ॥
Just as the great elements such as earth, water, fire, air and
space enter into all kinds of living beings while also remaining
beyond them, in the same way I exist within all beings and yet
remain transcendental to them.
ētāvadēva jijñāsyaṃ tattvajijñāsunā’tmanaḥ ।
anvayavyatirēkābhyāṃ yatsyātsarvatra sarvadā ॥ 6 ॥
A person who seeks the ultimate truth should inquire into that
Reality which is present everywhere and at all times. It should be
understood through the principles of connection and distinction,
recognizing what truly exists in all circumstances.
ētanmataṃ samātiṣṭha paramēṇa samādhinā ।
bhavānkalpavikalpēṣu na vimuhyati karhichit ॥ 7 ॥
Firmly establish this teaching within yourself through supreme
meditation and spiritual absorption. By doing so, you will never
again become bewildered by the various doubts, assumptions and
mental alternatives created by material existence.

Thus ends the Chatuḥślōkī Bhāgavata, the four essential verses of
the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, contained in the Ninth Chapter of the Second
Canto, in the dialogue between the Supreme Lord and Brahmā.
