हिंदी अर्थ: श्रीकृष्ण सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र मंत्र के ऋषि महर्षि पराशर हैं, छंद अनुष्टुप है, श्रीकृष्ण परमात्मा देवता हैं, “श्रीकृष्ण” बीज है, “श्रीवल्लभ” शक्ति है और “शार्ङ्गी” कीलक है। श्रीकृष्ण की प्रसन्नता के लिए इस मंत्र का जप किया जाता है।

English Meaning: The seer of the Sri Krishna Sahasranama Stotra is Sage Parashara, the metre is Anushtubh, and Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Self, is the presiding Deity. “Sri Krishna” is the seed, “Sri Vallabha” is the power, and “Sharngi” is the key. This mantra is recited for the pleasure and grace of Lord Sri Krishna.

हिंदी अर्थ: न्यास में सिर पर “महर्षि पराशर को नमस्कार”, मुख पर “अनुष्टुप छंद को नमस्कार”, हृदय में “गोपालकृष्ण देवता को नमस्कार”, गुप्त स्थान पर “श्रीकृष्ण बीज को नमस्कार”, दोनों चरणों में “श्रीवल्लभ शक्ति को नमस्कार” और संपूर्ण शरीर पर “शार्ङ्गधारी कीलक को नमस्कार” किया जाता है।

English Meaning: In the ritual Nyasa, one salutes Sage Parashara at the head, the Anushtubh metre at the mouth, Gopala Krishna as the presiding Deity at the heart, Sri Krishna as the seed at the secret centre, Sri Vallabha as the divine power at the feet, and Sharngadhara as the key throughout the body.

हिंदी अर्थ: करन्यास में श्रीकृष्ण के विभिन्न नामों का उच्चारण करते हुए अंगूठे, तर्जनी, मध्यमा, अनामिका, कनिष्ठिका तथा हथेलियों और हाथों के पृष्ठभाग पर न्यास किया जाता है। इसी प्रकार हृदय आदि अंगों का भी न्यास किया जाता है।

English Meaning: In Karanyasa, the various names of Lord Krishna are invoked while performing Nyasa upon the thumbs, index fingers, middle fingers, ring fingers, little fingers, and the palms and backs of the hands. In the same manner, Nyasa is performed upon the heart and other parts of the body.

हिंदी अर्थ: कुछ भक्त प्रेम में अपना मन पूर्णतः खोकर भगवान की बाल-लीलाओं का ध्यान करते हैं; कुछ उन्हें गोपाल-लीलाओं से सुशोभित और बाँसुरी बजाते हुए देखते हैं। कुछ उन्हें अपनी वामांगना के समीप प्रेमभाव जगाने वाले तथा दैत्यों के अहंकार का नाश करने वाले रूप में ध्यान करते हैं। भक्तों की भिन्न-भिन्न भावनाओं के अनुसार प्रकट होने वाले वही ऐसे भगवान, समस्त जगत के ईश्वर, विजयी हों।

English Meaning: Some devotees, their minds dissolved in divine love, meditate upon Krishna’s charming childhood pastimes; others behold Him absorbed in His cowherd play, enchanting all through His flute. Others contemplate Him beside His beloved, awakening divine love and destroying the pride of demons. The Lord of the universe triumphs, manifesting Himself according to the varied devotional moods of His devotees.

हिंदी अर्थ: जिनकी स्तुति क्षीरसागर में देवताओं और ब्रह्मा आदि ज्ञानीजनों ने की, वही भगवान वसुदेव के घर में प्रकट होकर आनंदपूर्वक गोकुल में क्रीड़ा करने लगे। कंस के विनाश के लिए वे मथुरा गए और बाद में रमणीय द्वारका में निवास किया। सभी गोपियों के प्रिय सखा और गोपाल भगवान श्रीकृष्ण हमें सभी संकटों से बचाएँ।

English Meaning: Praised in the Ocean of Milk by the gods, Brahma, and other wise beings, the Lord appeared in Vasudeva’s home and joyfully performed His pastimes in Gokula. He went to Mathura to destroy Kamsa and later dwelt in beautiful Dvaraka. May that Gopala, the beloved friend of all the Gopis, protect us from every danger.

हिंदी अर्थ: मैं उन गोविंद की भक्ति करता हूँ जिनकी कांति खिले हुए नीलकमल के समान है, जिनका मुख चंद्रमा के समान सुंदर है और जो मस्तक पर मोरपंख धारण करना प्रिय मानते हैं। जिनके वक्षस्थल पर श्रीवत्स चिह्न है, जो कौस्तुभ मणि और पीतांबर धारण करते हैं, जिनका शरीर गोपियों के कमल-समान नेत्रों द्वारा पूजित है, जो गौओं और गोपों से घिरे रहते हैं, मधुर बाँसुरी बजाते हैं और दिव्य आभूषणों से सुशोभित हैं।

English Meaning: I worship Govinda, whose radiance resembles a blossoming blue lotus and whose face is like the moon, who delights in wearing a peacock feather, bears the Srivatsa mark and the Kaustubha jewel, and is clad in yellow garments. His form is worshipped by the lotus-like eyes of the Gopis; He is surrounded by cows and cowherds, plays enchanting melodies upon His flute, and is adorned with divine ornaments.

हिंदी अर्थ: वे आनंदस्वरूप, सुख के आधार, मुक्ति प्रदान करने वाले मुकुंद, प्रसन्नचित्त, परिवर्तन से परे, समस्त कर्मों के आधार और अपने वास्तविक आध्यात्मिक स्वरूप में स्थित भगवान हैं।

English Meaning: He is the embodiment of bliss, the foundation of happiness, Mukunda who grants liberation, joyful in heart, changeless, the source behind all actions, and established in His own true spiritual nature.

śiṣṭābhilakṣyō bhūtātmā dharmatrāṇārthachēṣṭitaḥ ।
antaryāmī kalārūpaḥ kālāvayavasākṣikaḥ ॥ 4 ॥

त्रिविक्रमस्त्रिलोकॆशो वामनः श्रीधरः पुमान् ।

English Meaning:
He sat beneath the shade of a magnificent sacred tree in the lotus posture. He is the inner Self dwelling within every being, the truth of His own essential nature, and wholly absorbed in profound contemplation.

व्याधेषुविद्धपूज्याङ्घ्रिर्निषादभयमोचनः ।
पुलिन्दस्तुतिसन्तुष्टः पुलिन्दसुगतिप्रदः ॥ १९९ ॥

वे व्याध के बाण से विद्ध होने पर भी पूजनीय चरणों वाले रहे और निषाद व्याध को भय से मुक्त किया। वे पुलिंद द्वारा की गई स्तुति से प्रसन्न हुए और उसे उत्तम गति प्रदान की।

English Meaning:
Even when struck by the hunter’s arrow, His sacred feet remained worthy of worship. He freed the Niṣāda hunter from fear, was pleased by the Pulinda’s prayer, and granted him a blessed spiritual destination.

दारुकार्पितपार्थादिकरणीयोक्तिरीशिता ।
दिव्यदुन्दुभिसंयुक्तः पुष्पवृष्टिप्रपूजितः ॥ २०० ॥

उन्होंने दारुक के माध्यम से अर्जुन आदि के लिए किए जाने वाले आवश्यक कार्यों का संदेश दिया। वे दिव्य दुंदुभियों की ध्वनि से युक्त और देवताओं द्वारा पुष्पवृष्टि से पूजित हुए।

English Meaning:
Through Dāruka, He conveyed instructions concerning the duties to be carried out by Arjuna and others. He was accompanied by the sound of celestial drums and worshipped by the gods with showers of flowers.

पुराणः परमेशानः पूर्णभूमाः परिष्टुतः ।
पतिराद्यः परं ब्रह्म परमात्मा परात्परः ॥ २०१ ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
वे सनातन पुरुष, परमेश्वर और पूर्ण ब्रह्मस्वरूप हैं, जिनकी सर्वत्र स्तुति की जाती है। वे आदि स्वामी, परब्रह्म, परमात्मा और समस्त से परे स्थित परम तत्त्व हैं।

English Meaning:
He is the Ancient One, the Supreme Lord, and the fullness of Absolute Reality, praised everywhere. He is the primordial Lord, the Supreme Brahman, the Supreme Self, and the Reality beyond all that is beyond.

श्रीपरमात्मा परात्परः ॐ नमः इति ।

हिंदी अर्थ:
वे श्रीस्वरूप परमात्मा और समस्त से परे परम तत्त्व हैं। उन्हें बार-बार प्रणाम है—ॐ नमः।

English Meaning:
He is the glorious Supreme Self, the Reality beyond all that is beyond. Salutations to Him: Om Namaḥ.

फलश्रुति –

इदं सहस्रं कृष्णस्य नाम्नां सर्वार्थदायकम् ।
अनन्तरूपी भगवान् व्याख्यातादौ स्वयम्भुवे ॥ २०२ ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
श्रीकृष्ण के इन सहस्र नामों का यह स्तोत्र सभी प्रकार के पुरुषार्थ और कल्याण प्रदान करने वाला है। अनंत रूप वाले भगवान ने आदि में स्वयंभू ब्रह्मा को इसका उपदेश दिया।

English Meaning:
This thousand-name hymn of Śrī Kṛṣṇa grants all desirable spiritual and worldly benefits. The Lord of infinite forms originally taught it to Svayambhū Brahmā.

तेन प्रोक्तं वसिष्ठाय ततो लब्ध्वा पराशरः ।
व्यासाय तेन सम्प्रोक्तं शुको व्यासादवाप्तवान् ॥ २०३ ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
ब्रह्मा ने इसे वसिष्ठ ऋषि को बताया। वसिष्ठ से पराशर ने इसे प्राप्त किया और पराशर ने व्यास को इसका उपदेश दिया। व्यास से शुकदेव ने इसे प्राप्त किया।

English Meaning:
Brahmā taught this to Sage Vasiṣṭha. Parāśara received it from Vasiṣṭha and taught it to Vyāsa. Śuka then received it from Vyāsa.

तच्छिष्यैर्बहुभिर्भूमौ ख्यापितं द्वापरे युगे ।
कृष्णाज्ञया हरिहरः कलौ प्रख्यापयद्विभुः ॥ २०४ ॥

द्वापर युग में उनके अनेक शिष्यों ने पृथ्वी पर इस स्तोत्र का प्रचार किया। श्रीकृष्ण की आज्ञा से सर्वशक्तिमान हरिहर ने कलियुग में भी इसे व्यापक रूप से प्रसिद्ध किया।

English Meaning:
During the Dvāpara age, many disciples spread this sacred hymn throughout the earth. By the command of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the mighty Hari-Hara made it renowned in the Kali age as well.

इदं पठति भक्त्या यः शृणोति च समाहितः ।
स्वसिद्ध्यै प्रार्थयन्त्येनं तीर्थक्षेत्रादिदेवताः ॥ २०५ ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
जो व्यक्ति इस स्तोत्र का भक्तिपूर्वक पाठ करता है और एकाग्रचित्त होकर इसे सुनता है, तीर्थों, पवित्र क्षेत्रों और उनके अधिष्ठाता देवता भी उसकी आध्यात्मिक सिद्धि और कल्याण के लिए अनुग्रह करते हैं।

English Meaning:
One who recites this hymn with devotion or listens to it with a concentrated mind receives divine grace. The deities presiding over sacred pilgrimage places and holy regions bless such a devotee for spiritual accomplishment.

प्रायश्चित्तान्यशेषाणि नालं यानि व्यपोहितुम् ।
तानि पापानि नश्यन्ति सकृदस्य प्रशंसनात् ॥ २०६ ॥

ऐसे पाप भी, जिन्हें अनेक प्रकार के प्रायश्चित्त पूर्णतः दूर नहीं कर पाते, इस स्तोत्र की एक बार श्रद्धापूर्वक स्तुति करने से नष्ट हो जाते हैं।

Even those sins that cannot be completely removed by numerous acts of atonement are destroyed by sincerely praising and reciting this sacred hymn even once.

ऋणत्रयविमुक्तस्य श्रौतस्मार्तानुवर्तिनः ।
ऋषेस्त्रिमूर्तिरूपस्य फलं विन्देदिदं पठन् ॥ २०७ ॥

जो व्यक्ति तीन प्रकार के ऋणों से मुक्त होकर श्रुति और स्मृति में बताए गए धर्म का पालन करता है, वह इस स्तोत्र का पाठ करके त्रिमूर्ति-स्वरूप ऋषि द्वारा बताए गए फल को प्राप्त करता है।

English Meaning:
One who becomes free from the three traditional debts and follows the duties taught by Śruti and Smṛti obtains, by reciting this hymn, the fruit described by the sage who embodies the divine triad.

इदं नामसहस्रं यः पठत्येतच्छृणोति च ।
शिवलिङ्गसहस्रस्य स प्रतिष्ठाफलं लभेत् ॥ २०८ ॥

जो व्यक्ति इस सहस्रनाम का पाठ करता या श्रद्धापूर्वक सुनता है, वह एक हजार शिवलिंगों की प्रतिष्ठा करने के समान पुण्यफल प्राप्त करता है।

English Meaning:
Whoever recites or listens to this thousand-name hymn with devotion receives the merit equivalent to establishing a thousand Śiva-liṅgas.

इदं किरीटी सञ्जप्य जयी पाशुपतास्त्रभाक् ।
कृष्णस्य प्राणभूतस्सन् कृष्णं सारथिमाप्तवान् ॥ २०९ ॥

हिंदी अर्थ:
किरीटी अर्जुन ने इस स्तोत्र का जप करके विजय प्राप्त की और पाशुपतास्त्र का अधिकारी बना। श्रीकृष्ण के प्रति अपने प्राणों के समान प्रेम और समर्पण के कारण उसने स्वयं श्रीकृष्ण को अपना सारथी प्राप्त किया।

English Meaning:
Arjuna, known as Kirīṭī, recited this sacred hymn, gained victory, and became worthy of the Pāśupata weapon. Being deeply devoted to Kṛṣṇa, he was blessed to have Kṛṣṇa Himself as his charioteer.

द्रौपद्या दमयन्त्या च सावित्र्या च सुशीलया ।
दुरितानि जितान्येतज्जपादाप्तं च वाञ्छितम् ॥ २१० ॥

द्रौपदी, दमयंती, सावित्री और सुशीला ने इस पवित्र जप के द्वारा अपने संकटों और दुरितों पर विजय प्राप्त की तथा अपनी इच्छित सिद्धि और फल प्राप्त किया।

Draupadī, Damayantī, Sāvitrī, and Suśīlā overcame their difficulties and misfortunes through the recitation of this sacred hymn and obtained the fulfillment of their cherished wishes.

किमिदं बहुना शंसन्मानवो मोदनिर्भरः ।
ब्रह्मानन्दमवाप्यान्ते कृष्णसायूज्यमाप्नुयात् ॥ २११ ॥

इसकी महिमा के बारे में बहुत अधिक कहने की आवश्यकता ही क्या है? जो मनुष्य श्रद्धापूर्वक इसका पाठ करता है, वह आनंद से परिपूर्ण होकर अंततः ब्रह्मानंद को प्राप्त करता है और श्रीकृष्ण के सायुज्य अर्थात् उनके परम दिव्य सान्निध्य एवं एकत्व की अवस्था को प्राप्त होता है।

What more need be said about its glory? A person who recites this hymn with devotion becomes filled with divine joy, ultimately attains the bliss of Brahman, and reaches Kṛṣṇa-sāyujya—the supreme state of union and closeness with Lord Kṛṣṇa.
