On the Day Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi

On April 14, 1950, an extraordinary event took place at Puttaparthi.

Bhagwan Shri Sathya Sai Baba grace, Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi

Maharshi passed away in Thiruvannamalai, Baba went into a trance at around 9 pm. He went into a trance quite suddenly and threatened to fall. We, another devotee Sri Krishna and I, held out our hands to support Him. Baba lay prostrate on our hands when suddenly His body rose up in air from our arms. He was as stiff as a board, and He was murmuring “Maharshi has reached Me.” Later, the sole of His right foot split open and nearly two kilograms of sweet smelling Vibhuti gushed forth. While we collected the Vibhuti, Baba was still levitating. After a while He descended and returned to His normal self. He then informed us that Sri Ramana Maharshi had merged in Him. The news of Sri Ramana Maharshi’s Samadhi appeared in the newspapers the next day. The time mentioned was the same as that of Baba’s trance.’

Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi – A Silent Message of Eternal Truth

Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi is not merely a historical statement; it is a sacred reminder that the life of a realized master does not end with the body. For ordinary eyes, samadhi may appear like departure, but for seekers, it is the merging of the individual presence into the infinite truth. Sri Ramana Maharshi lived as a shining example of silence, self-inquiry, simplicity, and inner freedom.

From a young age, Ramana Maharshi was drawn deeply toward the mystery of the Self. His famous inner experience of death awakened in him the truth that the body is temporary, but the real “I” is deathless. After this awakening, he left home and reached Arunachala, the holy hill that became the centre of his life and teaching. He did not build a philosophy through arguments; he lived the truth through silence.

Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi, yet his presence continues to guide seekers even today. This is the special beauty of saints. Their physical form may disappear, but their spiritual power remains alive through their teachings, memories, and the transformation they bring in human hearts. Ramana Maharshi’s silence still speaks to those who sincerely turn inward.

His main teaching was simple: ask “Who am I?” This question was not meant for intellectual discussion alone. It was a direct path to discover the source of the ego. Usually, people identify themselves with name, body, emotions, thoughts, and roles. But Ramana Maharshi showed that these are changing layers. The true Self is the silent awareness behind them all.

Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi after a life of complete surrender and inner stillness. Even during physical suffering, he remained peaceful. He did not complain or demand special comfort. His calmness showed that he was not bound by the body. For devotees, this became a final teaching: pain may touch the body, but the realized Self remains untouched.

Many people came to him with questions, doubts, sorrow, and spiritual hunger. Some expected long explanations, but often they received silence. That silence was not emptiness. It was full of compassion and power. In his presence, restless minds became quiet, heavy hearts felt lighter, and seekers understood that peace is not somewhere outside; it is already within.

Ramana Maharshi did not ask people to change their outer life suddenly. He did not insist that everyone must leave home, family, or work. Instead, he guided seekers to look at the root of the “I” feeling. Whether one lived in a house, office, village, or ashram, the path remained the same: turn inward, watch the mind, and discover the Self.

Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi, but his teaching remains timeless because it speaks to the deepest problem of human life. The mind constantly runs toward desires, fears, memories, and expectations. It creates endless questions and then suffers from its own confusion. Self-inquiry gently brings the mind back to its source, where silence and peace naturally shine.

His love for Arunachala was also deeply symbolic. For him, Arunachala was not just a mountain. It was the living form of the Divine, the silent guru that pulled the soul inward. Many devotees felt that sitting near Arunachala and remembering Ramana Maharshi brought a rare peace. This shows that sacred places become powerful when saints fill them with realization.

The samadhi of a great master should not be seen with sadness alone. It should awaken gratitude. Such beings come to the world not for personal gain, but to remind humanity of its forgotten truth. They live simply, speak little, and transform deeply. Their lives are like lamps that continue to burn in the hearts of seekers long after their physical form is gone.

Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi, yet the real way to honor him is not only through visiting his ashram or reading his words. The greater tribute is practice. If we reduce ego, speak less harshly, live more honestly, and spend time in self-reflection, we keep his message alive. His path asks for sincerity more than outer display.

In modern life, his teaching is especially meaningful. People are surrounded by noise, speed, comparison, and anxiety. The world keeps asking, “What do you have?” or “What have you achieved?” Ramana Maharshi’s wisdom asks a deeper question: “Who are you?” This question cuts through the surface and brings the seeker back to the heart of existence.

Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi as a realized sage who had already gone beyond the fear of death. His life teaches that the body is not the final identity and the mind is not the final truth. Beyond both is the Self, pure, silent, peaceful, and eternal.

In the end, his samadhi is not an ending but a doorway for seekers. It reminds us that the master’s true presence is found within the heart. When the mind becomes quiet and the ego becomes weak, the light of the Self begins to shine. Sri Ramana Maharshi Attained Samadhi, but his silence continues to call every sincere soul back to its own divine source.
