Lord Kartikeya

Child Lord Kartikeya holding sacred vel blessing

Lord Kartikeya, also known as Murugan, Skanda, Subrahmanya, and Shanmukha, is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. He is the divine son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is celebrated as the God of courage, strength, wisdom, and victory. Lord Kartikeya is especially worshipped in South India, where He is deeply associated with devotion, discipline, and spiritual valor.

Kartikeya is traditionally depicted as a youthful and radiant warrior riding a peacock, with the divine Vel (spear) in His hand. The Vel represents the power of wisdom that destroys ignorance and negativity. His six faces symbolize different divine qualities and are also connected with His name Shanmukha, meaning “the six-faced one.”

According to Hindu traditions, Lord Kartikeya was created to defeat the powerful demon Tarakasura and restore balance between good and evil. His victory represents the triumph of righteousness, courage, and divine knowledge over darkness.

Devotees worship Lord Kartikeya for strength, confidence, success, protection, and spiritual growth. Festivals such as Skanda Sashti and Thaipusam are particularly important among His followers.
