Basukinath Dham, located in Dumka district, Jharkhand, is one of the most revered Shiva temples in Eastern India. It is often called the “Baidhyanath Jyotirlinga’s Court”, as devotees believe that after visiting Baba Baidyanath Temple in Deoghar, their pilgrimage is incomplete without paying homage here

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva (Baba Basukinath) and Goddess Parvati, representing the union of divine power and grace.

Mythological Significance & History

The exact origins of the temple are shrouded in time, but it is believed to be centuries old and associated with Shiva worship in the Santhal Pargana region.
According to local lore, Basukinath is where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati meet daily for prayer in the evening.
The temple has long been an important stop for Kanwar Yatris during the holy month of Shravan, who carry water from the Ganga at Sultanganj to offer at Baidyanath Jyotirlinga and then complete their pilgrimage here.

Significance of the Temple

Considered the “Second Court” after Baidyanath Dham, where devotees seek the blessings of both Shiva and Parvati.
It is believed that worship here completes the Shiva Darshan, granting peace, health, and liberation.
Shravani Mela held here in July–August is one of the largest religious gatherings in Jharkhand.
The temple is also a place of Gauri Shankar union worship, symbolizing marital bliss and harmony.
