Shri Mallikarjuna Temple

Many people have reportedly heard a buzzing sound in the Mallikarjuna Temple, symbolising Parvati Devi’s avatar, Bhramarambika Devi. Devotees it is her way of showering her blessings on her devotees. How Goddess Parvati Became Bhramarambika Devi? Arunasura was a rakshas who wanted to achieve immortality. Gayatri Devi turned him away, saying she did not possess the power to grant him his wish for immortality. He then did Tapasya to please Lord Brahma. When his prayers started to cause trouble, the other Gods asked Lord Brahma to find a solution. Lord Brahma also rejected his wish and asked him to wish for something else. The rakshas asked him if he wished no 2-legged or 4-legged creature had caused his death. His wish was granted. When Arunasura achieves his wish, he starts destroying everything and even causes problems to the Gods. The Gods ask Lord Shiva and Parvati Devi’s help in the matter. Goddess Parvati becomes Bhramara, which is a form of a thousand bees and slays Arunasura to put an end to his evil ways. The Gods become elated to find out that she put an end to him. They ask her to take abode in a place of her choice so they can pray to her for eternal time. They also required her to turn to Bhramaramba. Unable to decide on a place of residence, goddess Parvati asks Lord Shiva which place is the most beautiful after the Kailasa he created. He replies that Srisailam is the next best place in the universe after Kailasa. This is when the two decide to stay in Srisailam as Mallikarjuna Bhramaramba so they can bless their devout devotees for eternity. This is what became the Mallikarjuna Temple. Thus, the Jyotirlinga is partless reality, and these shrines are places where Shiva appeared as a fiery column of light. Although it was believed that there are 64 jyotirlingas, only 12 of them are considered to be holy and auspicious as each site represents varied manifestations of Lord Shiva. The Jyotirlinga site signifies the infinite nature of Lord Shiva, where he is regarded as the limitless, formless, and absolute Brahman and the primal soul of the universe. Architectural Significance The Trimbakeshwar temple is considered to be the 8th Jyotirlinga. The entire temple is built with only black stones that elevate its architecture. The temple was built in the 18th century and in the Nagara-styled that houses a spacious courtyard too. The temple is on an elevated platform, also known as the Shikhara, with a stone plate carved that is shaped into a lotus. Shri Ghrishneshwara Temple

Once there was a king who greatly enjoyed hunting. One day, while hunting in the forest, the king accidentally killed the animals who lived with the sages residing in the woods. Infuriated at the loss of their animals, the sages cursed that the body of the king will be infested with insects.Smitten by the curse and disheartened by his new state, the king started wandering in the forest. He soon grew thirsty but could not find water anywhere. After searching for a water source for hours, the king found a small artificial water pool made out of horse hooves. To his surprise, he immediately got cured of his curse, and all the insects left his body.Humbled by the divine miracle, the king decided to do penance near the lake. Appeased by his Tapa, Lord Brahma appeared there and turned the water pool into a sizeable holy lake. Worshippers now know this lake as ‘Shivalay’ Architectural Significance The Grishneshwar Temple is the smallest Jyotirlinga temple in India. The stone tower showcases distinct friezes in rust, pink and yellow. Many of its architectural features make it among the most distinctive and unique structures in the country. Shri Nageshwara Temple

Another story about the temple comes out of the great epic of Mahabharata. It revolves around the five protagonists of the story, the Pandava brothers. One day they were wandering into a forest when Bhima, the strongest of the five brothers came across a river full of milk and cream. With the help of his brothers, he found a Swayambhu Shiva Linga (a self-manifested form of Shiva) in the middle of the flowing river. This was the spot in which the Nageshwar temple was built. Architectural Significance The Architecture of the Nageshwar Temple is a unique blend of skill and culture. While its physical beauty is enchanting, the conceptual symbolism behind its structure is even more fascinating. The temple gently slopes towards the beautiful Nageshwar Lake. Constructed in raft style, the foundation of the temple is massive and has no rock strata beneath. The temple walls are made out of RCC and are coated with anti-rust chemicals. Serene Porbandar stone of porous and feather-light structure blankets the building. The best part about the architecture of the temple is that its spiritual beauty shows through its design. The structure follows the old rules of Vastushastra, the science of positioning, and directions. Following the western style of architecture, the entrance of the temple faces west. This is so that when devotees are worshipping Lord Shiva, they are automatically facing the Sun God. Temple Timings Temple Location
