Vigneshwara Temple, Ozar

Vigneshwara Temple

The Vigneshwara Temple, also known as Vighnahar Ganapati Temple, is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha—worshipped as Vigneshwara (Lord of Obstacles) or Vighnahar (Remover of Obstacles).

“जहाँ विघ्नेश्वर विराजते हैं, वहाँ जीवन के सारे विघ्न मिट जाते हैं।”

― Vigneshwara Temple

It is one of the Eight Ashtavinayak Temples in Maharashtra, India.

Mythological Significance & History

The temple stands on the banks of the Kukadi River in Ozar, Junnar taluka, Pune district—built to honor Ganesha’s victory over the demon Vignasura, who caused chaos by disrupting sacred rituals.
It was likely first constructed around 1785 CE, later renovated in 1833 by Chimaji Appa, known for its unique golden dome and pinnacle.

Significance of the Temple

Devotees believe that worshipping here brings protection from obstacles, as Ganesha overcame Vignasura at this very site.
Though customarily seventh in the Ashtavinayak pilgrimage, many pilgrims visit Ozar as the fifth stop due to convenient routing.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple is noted for its golden dome and pinnacle, making it distinctive among Ashtavinayaks.

Its entrance features deepamalas (lamp towers), a sturdy stone courtyard, and fortified walls.

Inside, the seated Ganesha idol has a left-turned trunk, diamond-studded eyes, an emerald forehead, and jewelled navel. He is flanked by Riddhi and Siddhi—goddesses of prosperity and spiritual power.

How to Reach to Temple
