Mythological Significance & History

Sri Raghavendra Swamy (1595–1671), born as Venkatanatha in Bhuvanagiri, Tamil Nadu, became one of the greatest exponents of Dvaita Vedanta. After becoming the pontiff of the Matha, he spent his life spreading Madhwacharya’s teachings and performing miracles.
In 1671 AD, Raghavendra Swamy, with his yogic powers, entered the Brindavana alive in Mantralayam. Devotees believe he continues to reside in Jeeva Samadhi for 700 years, blessing devotees and performing miracles. The Matha was built around his Brindavana (sacred tomb) and has grown into a major spiritual and cultural hub.
